Some of the very people who DIDN'T support the whole expose on 12-Clicks and Standard Internet's browser hijacking and system registry manipulation can be found in this thread ...bitching and complaining about date.com. And yet both use very similar techniques... am I missing something here? |

KRosh, not all spywares ask surfer's permission and even if you keep your system updated you can be a victim of them. High security settings will prevent the majority of them, but not all. There are many custom codes that can do nearly everything in your system without being noticed. The most advanced I have seen can copy part of surfer's registry and collect data that the site owner can use or sell to others. The surfer nevers find out.

Lets see... A popunder appears under your browser so you dont see it under you close it A popup appears over your browser so you cant see your browser, only the popup. Get the picture? And with our popUNDER you would only see it once a day, not every 30min so like everyone says, its your computer doing it idiot Learn the terminology before claiming webmaster status |

Well guys and gals, I can't guarantee this will work, but I've gotten rid of lots of "adware" this way. I also don't have this particular adware, and hope not to get it, so I can't give you any more specifics than this:
1. Open your task manager (right click on your start bar, and choose task manager). 2. Select the "processes" tab. 3. If you're unfamiliar with this list, then it will be a bit tough to get started, but if you are familiar with it, then begin looking for processes (Image Names) that you don't recognize. Chances are that this program is running on your computer at all times. 4. When you see something that looks fishy, Go to Start->Search->Files and Folders, and search your entire computer for that program (i.e. SaveNow.exe). When the computer finds it's location, take a look. If it's in c:/windows/system, then it is most likely a legitimate part of your computer. If it is in c:/Program Files/Special Offers, then it's probably bullshit. 5. Erase the culprit files and be on your way... ... It would literally be illegal for them to make a program that alters your computer in an unreversible way. That would be a computer virus, and they could probably go to jail, so chances are, there is a way to remove it without reformatting or anything. An alternative would be to look at your add/remove programs list in the Control Panel. Good luck, and if someone finds it, don't hesitate to share ;)

I get the same bullshit on my PC at home. I'm so used to surfing from my shithead proof network at work that I forget to watch my ass at home. The fucking pop ups aren't even pop ups. They're windows system messages, that's why they don't have an actual clickable url just a link you have to cut and paste (hence no affiliate ID). If you look on some of the ads there're sub ads for the company that sells the pop up generator. It's like vs4soft.com or some shit like that. If you go to there site you can send them an email and they'll remove your IP from there updater. Or some lame ass excuse for ass covering like that. Bottom line... We both partied with Nate from date.com at the Trop last year. Seemed like a kewl enough cat from a legitimate enough company but it's hard to beleive an affiliate would be dumb enough to drop $300 USD on that pop up proggy then configure, then not put their code in. |

Ok since no one mentioned this yet here it goes. Pay attention
boy you might learn something. View source of the popup copy the domain part of the url. Click start select run, type regedit hit enter. press ctrl+f paste the domain part you just copied. Hit enter when it stops at a folder delete that whole folder that has that key. Repeat till no more is found. Close regedit, reboot. In case that doesn't work and you run XP click start go to system restore within the accessories tab, select a date on which you're sure it wasn't on your computer. It will restore the backup of the registry from that date thus removing the shit that's causing this junk. Works also great if you have not a too sick virus. DynaMite

Guys, my hubby had the same type of thing, although the pops were always mainstream. AdAware couldn't find it.
I did though, in the msconfig startup file. Start -> Run -> type in "msconfig" (no quotes) and hit enter. On the Startup tab you'll see a list of everything that starts running when your computer boots up. Everything is pretty easily labelled and there's a path to show you where it's run from so you can also identify it. If you don't recognize something, uncheck it. Especially if it's just "Run". Then hit Apply and Ok and allow the computer to restart so changes can take effect. Don't worry, if you uncheck something you need by accident, you can always go back in and re-check it to enable it again. I believe the name of the piece of shit popping windows on hubby's computer was named "run17.dll" - an innocuous name to look as if it were necessary. |

Sleazy.. are u talking about an IE popup.. or a windows popup.. If windows.. try turning off your Alert Service (under the services panel of admin tools)
