My grandma used to have a pet mountain lion she kept in a cage under her porch & let out at night to hunt, it came back every morning, she raised it since birth as an orphan. Rabbit foot keychains we're popular for good luck and cutting off a dead crows foot and making it a necklace was to ward off bad spirits. I did this in California when my kid was little and showed him how to cut the foot off, sterilize it and make the necklace, they took it away the first day he wore it at school. Here's a pic of one for sale on Etsy, with a real crows foot, so you know it's actually a thing :D

Where I grew up pretty much every wild animal with four legs had a pelt price, so that's what you thought when you saw a raccoon, fox, beaver, etc.
