The future of the adult industry?

Hi Gang,

I have been reading and thinking a lot about the present and future of the industry. I wanted to have your opinion on the subject, since I know there are so many knowledgeable people on this board... I would like to start the conversation with a few questions... regarding the adult webcams niche... I keep hearing that they are getting the biggest piece of the pie... that they are the future of the adult industry, etc... so here they are:

1. Is it the biggest market on the adult industry and it could keep growing exponentially?
How many of you think adult webcams are the future of the industry and that the major players are actually getting the biggest piece of the pie?
2. If the above itīs true... why arenīt more jasmins, chaturbates, MFC, BongoCams and cam4s popping up every year?
3. And why so many have failed?
4. Is it a profitable market for affiliates?
5. Are the top 5 live webcams sites dominating the adult industry?
6. Or is the contrary and it is a saturated market that will decline in the near future?

Hoping this will start an interesting discussion...

Cheers,

The webcam business will evolve away from the studio model, third world studios with someone typing for a girl who can't speak English, and a bored, plastic girl going through a sex act. Into a far more intimate one-one experience via Skype or a purpose built platform.

Promotion will change as well. Traffic is unbelievably cheap. The problem for most cam sites is they're crap at selling the product. If a cam site can't convert 1-2,000 surfers. It's not the traffic that's wrong. It's the product and marketing.

A more personal approach to marketing is the key. Sell the sizzle, not the steak. Which will make it hard for affiliates who want to dump "traffic" onto a website and expect the site to do the rest. Somne are already failing to do it for themselves.

Creatives of people selling people to people.

At the moment it's a system of dumping traffic, scratching heads over ratios, tweaking banners, etc.

We're in the intimate, personal, pleasure, people, business. Not webmastering.

Regarding the affiliates making $$$$ ...most definitely. I cannot speak for other programs, but my affiliates have always done very well in terms of conversions. As far as the future, I really don't know. I see the possibility of 3D stuff getting more popular, but I could be wrong. Will be interesting to see how the industry progresses ...and it's also important for all of us content producers to keep up with the changes.

Most of the top 5 or even 10 cam sites was launched between 1997 and 2004 (even myfreecams is from 2004, even if took off in 2009 really). Chaturbate and Bongacams both launched in 2011 making these the newest (and latest) cam sites launched that didn't failed and took into top ranks. But, both chaturbate and bongacams owners previously ran other programs (adult dating etc.) so it was no new guys. In other words, no guys who are totally new to the adult industry launched a cam site that went well in the past, at least since 2005.
In other words, the 80% of cam sites market is in hands of the same dozen of people since 10 to 15 years with no significant changes, except that some that a couple that was in dating or paysites moved to cams.

New guys failed because launched cam sites investing less than $1M in media buying and marketing to models etc. You simply can't launch a cam site with $10k and every new failed cam site further verify that. Yet, no one with more than $10k is willing to launch a cam site since so many years.

Saturation: In mainstream, you have sure saturation, think at video games, that's sure saturated and sure hundreds of thousands of new video games are launched, all of which fail commercially. But unlike in adult, in mainstream you have investors and venture capital, that is funding million dollars to make new projects, some of which end up with a billion dollar value (see supercell for ex.). In adult, the only guys who got funded was manwin/pornub with some $300M fund they sold to teachers pensions or whatever, and see where pornhub is. Let anyone invest $100M to launch a new cam site (plus buy and merge a few of the smaller) and sure things would be shaked around, no matter the "saturation".

In adult cams we don't have saturation: we have new venture investment inactivity

1. There is innovation on the internet and connected with the bricks and mortar world -- just not much in the adult industry.
  • Netflix
  • Amazon
  • Tesla
  • SpaceX
  • Faceboot
  • Twitter
  • Airbnb
  • Uber
  • the list goes on
â€Ē Number of internet users in global regions 2016 | Statistic

2. How many of these people can buy from you? This is why traffic is cheap and the ROI on traffic is poor. These people buy fish heads and rice daily and look for free porn on the internet. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out. Additionally, Internet advertising suffers from ad blocking and CPM fraud.

3. I am sure that some of the retail stock brokerages are gone today because of price competition from the new breed of digital stock brokerages.

Large (or larger) business incumbency helps (or helped) but you only have to look as far as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and now Eldon Musk to see that the information technology has leveled the playing field.

If you bring nothing new to the table -- no defined unique product value -- why would you expect to excel? A can of corn is a can of corn -- commoditization.

There is one constant in adult: the sky is always falling.

Go forth and mold your product and sell it. Ignore the constant doom and gloom of the Paul Markhams of the world, or they'll cripple your motivation and you'll give up.

It wasn't always like that. I can remember the time when the future was going to be great, there was more money n porn than I could get my hands on. I was working hard shooting new girsl and the content was flying out the door. Then you guys decided to race and see how fast you can give it away.

Just make sure it's not the same as what's been made a10,000 times befire and on free porn sites.

Better than spending time and money doing the same as was done yesterday and expecting it to do better tomorrow.

14 years ago you guys were telling me offline porn is dying and mostly you were right. I'm telling you porn paysites are dying for most of you, webcams are in te process of changing and the affiliate model of yesterday has changed.

The future is about adapting or dying and that doesn't mean doing what you did yesterday but with a different landing page or pop-up.
