TEHRAN (Reuters) - The leader of Iraq's main Shi'ite opposition group warned Washington on Tuesday that U.S. troops would face armed resistance if they stayed in Iraq once President Saddam Hussein was toppled.

"Iraqis are against foreign dominance, and if they (the Americans) don't want to leave Iraq, the nation will resist," said Ayatollah Mohammed Baqir Hakim, head of the Tehran-based Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI).

Give the Israelis a month or so to shut down and move to wherever they want to go - most likely Miami Beach. Or give them a state, like North Dakota or Idaho. Then nuke the whole Middle East.

I suspect that trucks will bring in that aid and food to areas that have been secured by the military, and the civilians that are hungry will show up in droves to accept it. Those still standing with their guns will also soon get hungry. Some will give up rather than starve. They will all be treated very well by the red cross and other coalition agencies that are there to help them and their children.

Later their country will be rebuilt for them, if they can only sit back and shaddap and let us do it for them. I say "us" because Canada will be a part of that process. They will have construction done for them, sewage systems, hydro-electric production made better than ever, etc etc.

But you're right, there will likely come a time when they simply want everyone out. No way they're going to be allowed to start killing each other and setting up a new dick-tater-ship though. Nuh-uh.

There are waaaay too many seperate groups in Iraq who think they belong in control.

The Shiites in the south have never liked Saddam. They rose up to fight him last time and got their asses reamed.

But they arent doing it now.

The first group of people that I would have thought would stand up and fight with the USA would have been the Shiites, they did it last time. But no, they are fighting us.

and the Kurds aren't going to fight the Turks any time soon for a couple reasons... one being that we have repeatedly warnd Turkey NOT to fuck with the Kurds... and Belgium has already told them, if they do, they can kiss their bid for the EU good-fucking-bye. And two.... the 173rd Airborne just dropped in outta the sky this afternoon and took control of shit there, setting up the airfield for more of our shit to come in.
If they were gonna clash, it would have already happened. That window of opportunity is gone now. At least until we're out of there.

The shiites are fighting the coalition? I hadn't heard that. What I HAVE heard on various networks is that they have been quite hesitant to help fight the Iraqis due to the fact that back in '91 we encouraged them to fight saddam but did fuck all to help them finish what we started. Instead we bailed and left them to face Saddam's wrath, which was quite harsh to say the least.

No one said it would be easy. I hazard a guess that those in the decision-making positions (Bush et al) are well aware of the various factions and how best to go about settling the country.... which brings us back to what you said earlier... "we'll soon see".

Basra is a major Shiite and Sunni city. I seriously doubt the people that want to see Saddam dead are just sitting their with their hands in their laps.

They will all be treated very well by the red cross and other coalition agencies that are there to help them and their children. Later their country will be rebuilt for them, if they can only sit back and shaddap and let us do it for them. I say "us" because Canada will be a part of that process. They will have construction done for them, sewage systems, hydro-electric production made better than ever, etc etc. But you're right, there will likely come a time when they simply want everyone out. No way they're going to be allowed to start killing each other and setting up a new dick-tater-ship though. I have no worries about Turkey, they just don't want an uprising from there Kurd ppl and don't want mass refugees, and a kurd state. Turkey remember is pretty much the only arab democracy..
