U.S. ambassador rebukes Canada for lack of support

'Bout time too....

Last paragraph in the article...
Quote:
"The Canadian naval vessels will provide more support to this war in Iraq than most of the 46 countries that are fully supporting our effort there," said Cellucci. (US Ambassador)

The NDP said that comment proves the government should withdraw those Canadian ships and their crews to show that Canada truly does not support the U.S.-led military action against Iraq.
The NDP retards really outta shut the fuck up or they'll be fucking up our US relations for good.

Assholes.

Here's another Canadian Gem......

Liberals accused of 'waffling' on war
Wed, 26 Mar 2003
OTTAWA - Prime Minister Jean Chrétien insists his government is not softening its opposition to the war against Iraq, or now calling for a regime change.

On Monday, Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham said Ottawa supports the U.S. plan to oust Saddam Hussein.

Jean Chrétien receives a standing ovation from his caucus (CP PHOTO)

But Chrétien has again suggested the goal of a forced regime change is illegal.

Former NDP leader Alexa McDonough suggested the government is losing its resolve. She said it "seems to be weakening and waffling and wobbling."

Canadian Alliance Leader Stephen Harper called the prime minister "an embarrassment," and asked bluntly whether he is for or against Saddam.

"Canadians want Saddam removed and this prime minister should stand with them. So I give him one chance: does the prime minister want the allies to remove Saddam Hussein?" he said.

Chrétien says the government position is consistent: regime change is wrong.

"The intervention there is to make sure Saddam is disarmed. The question of changing regimes is not acceptable under the United Nations Charter," he said.

Chrétien insists a large percentage of Canadians support the government, a view that was reflected in a two-to-one vote against an Alliance motion favouring the war.

But even while the government insists it isn't wavering, and that Canada won't join the war, it is increasingly sensitive about being seen as anti-American, or even neutral in the conflict.

The prime minister says he hopes the U.S. and not Iraq prevails.

Chretien "hopes the U.S. and not Iraq prevails"...... how fucking magnanimous of him.

DF - I do see the point you're trying to make, but it is really about support, and supporting your friend in times of need. There are some specific points in that first link I posted that address that issue.

There are certainly other Canadians in Parlaiment and throughout the country that DO support the US. It's apparent in the first link I posted that various parties in our government are arguing about this, many of whom think Chretien is out to fucking lunch.

Obviously, I just meant as a whole. Its obvious your Prime Minister hasnt made any Tony Blair arguments hahaha, thats all I meant. It seems the general canadian attitude was anti-war.

I wouldnt expect the canadians to assist in something their leader doesnt believe in. As they obviously havent.

It would be interesting to see the results of a Canada-wide poll. I'm thinking it would reveal that the percentage of Canadians supporting the removal of Saddam is actually quite high, maybe even comparable to the 70% approval rating that Americans are giving Bush.

There is quite a difference between :

- the removal of Saddam Hussein
- the invasion of a country

People in Canada ( and the parliament ) voiced their position pretty clearly. Read your own links at beginning of this thread:

" ... not without the UN ...."

The only party that wished to go with the coalition ( the Canadian Alliance: stronghold in Alberta , province of the oil) said because " it is the first time we are not with our Anglo allies ..." .

The hell with him.

Our country chose not to send troops to a War that is illegal by international laws.

I support our liberals 100%.
I said it before, I say it again. 99% of the people of the world would choose Chretien over George bush as their national leader anyday.

No, I prefer Bulgaria. Slovakia, and other small boughout countries....

The ones you name represents ( and the one you don't name not in the "coalition of the willings" ) represents 2/3 of world population....

BTW, where are the Irakis with the flowers and dancing in the street....

Why? Because I support their cause? Because I disagree with our PM's stance and agree with some of the Opposition in the House of Commons?

Pretty stupid comment to make. Many other Canadians feel as I do, what are you going to suggest half the population leave because they support the UK and US?

Stupid.

If they're Marines, doesn't that mean they're in the American military?

I think that is what he was saying. The Canadians fighting are part of an American expedition, and not a Canadian expedition, which is what he would like.

This flying iquanashit is a bit slow on the uptake. You're right of course... according to the ARTICLE, these 8 canadians are members of the US military, and are US soldiers. I'm not sure how they pulled it off, the article is unclear on that, but it states clearly that they are Canadians, and that they are IN the US military and are over in Iraq fighting against the Iraqi army.

I have no idea what crawled up Iguana boy's dense ass.

Fact is, I applaud them if what the article is saying is true.

Actually CD, I've heard from a "friend of a friend" that there are actually 12 Canadians in the Marines. Supposedly, this guy I know is friends with one of the Marines.

Cool stuff.

ya i'd love to see what you would try. a lot of my family comes from nova scotia and i don't take lightly to shit like that. its very insulting. there's canadians fighting in iraq, but they're from the maritimes. thats very fucking insulting and you'd be shitting out your teeth if you said that to me in person.
Okay, I see you misunderstood and have a problem with my use of the word "But"......

Problem is... YOU misunderstood. Not me, YOU. Therefore the problem is with you my friend. Why jump to stupid conclusions and cock off with empty threats when what YOU think I meant isn't what I meant?

Fact is, I have family who came from those provinces. I only said "But" because I know that I am talking mostly to Americans here, and I was stressing that although these 8 guys are US marines, they in fact ARE from Canada. That's it, that's all.

As in - "They are US marines, BUT they are from...."

So put away your foolish threats and try asking what someone means before beakin' off at them.

Interesting. I didn't know that a Canadian could go to the states and enlist. There must be a certain procedure for that, maybe some protocols that have to be followed first.

Would be interesting to find out how it's done.

That second article is complete bullshit..
Canadians do not support this.. In montreal there have been anti-war rallies bigger than those held in Toronto, Washington, LA, Paris, and New York Combined.. Almost 70% of the people here in Quebec are against this war, and I think it is the same all over the country..
So anyone saying that Canadians support this war has their heads up their ass..

if they had their troops on the ground, the canadiens would support it. Since the war started, usa support is up to over 70% in some polls.

I've also heard that Montreal has quite the history for protesting just about anything imaginable.

Any comment?

**POP** that was the sound of me pulling my head out of my ass...

ANYWAYS....ok, so I don't have a 'survey' on ALL Canadians, but the few that I do know, support the war effort and are quite rational people....if you think that claiming a large % of your population are proud of being irrational and more closely aligned to the chinese, french, russians, and germans, then more power to ya bro!

I support your right to feel however you want, just don't be like that Cherac fuckwit and want to come sucking on the rebuilding Iraq/money fund after the fact....NO SOUP FOR YOU

ok if you meant more along the lines of but they're canadians and not making it sound like people from the maritimes are shit and don't represent real canadians, then i don't have a problem with it. choose your words a bit more carefully in the future. you really made it stand out that they may have been canadians but they were from nb and ns by putting it on a seperate line as if you were emphasizing it.

it was you who made the initial threat, i simply told you to fuck off.

Try saying the words "What do you mean?" next time. Most times, shit like this isn't worth causing a fuckus about, and it is plainly obvious from my posts that I am in support of what those Canadians are doing so my meaning was not all that ambiguous.

You've been quick to jump on me before, and if you continue to do so my invitation stands. If you're going to puff your toughness everywhere, shaddap and prove it. Otherwise try playing nice.

Guys, it's easy to misunderstand someone on a message board.

Kiss and make up.

It's silly to argue about words when you both believe the same thing.

For the record, this "unconnected" guy has proven himself to be a complete retard on many past discussions and arguments. If any doesn't see things his way they automatically "have their head up their ass"...... he once even tried to tell me (on another board) that he would welcome Russia invading the USA. You gotta love his tenacity though.

Fact is, this dipshit neither speaks for all Quebecers nor does he have a clue what the rest of Canada thinks. Not even a trace of a clue. I have many relatives that are from Quebec and have lived there for generations, and many of them wonder about our PM's decisions lately. As for the rest of Canada, I wouldn't put the anti-American sentiment at anywhere CLOSE to 70%. I would put it at maybe dead even at worst, but I think that the majority of Canadians support the removal of Saddam's crew, and we support the coalition forces and wish that Canada was a part of it.

The protestors in Canadian cities are no better informed than those in the US, and many are of course protesting simply because it's the cool thing to do right now. It's an empty protest, because no one WANTS war, most people would have been overjoyed if Saddam had of complied with UN sanctions, 1441 etc. He didn't, war has begun, deal with it and move on.

I have to pipe in as a Canadian...

Chretien is an idiot. Our country has had very little growth under his government. I would love to see a change but I doubt that any other current potential PM would be much better (sad times).

While I am still unsure whether or not all out war was warranted, I firmly believe that Canada should support the coalition forces in Iraq. Full support. It feels like a family affair out there... and for some reason we are still at home.

And besides, relations with the US were already strained and tense... from softwood lumber to potentially allowing terrorists into the USA (however much that may have been hyped up by the media), the attitude towards Canada by the average US citizen has gotten much worse then I ever thought possible.

And while Canada has been bringing in more business from across the pacific lately, I still believe we need to have take advanatage of our natural trading position with the US to grow. Diversify and expand.

A side note on the demonstrators I have seen... all a bunch of hippies out to make a point and a bunch of punks there to riot. Neither group of people even understand the situation I think. Both groups are demonstrating for the social aspect - hippies to get together and share love and hug trees, and young punks to riot and get rowdy...

but according to Controlthy, I should move out of Canada, and 12clicks doesnt care cuz I am a Canadian and beneath notice... I luv this place

Not true. It is perfectly fine to be anti-war, because no one in their right mind actually WANTS war. It is only those that can't see where there's a valid reason to stand up and fight for what is right that need a smack upside the head. Those that are so unreasonable as to be calling their president "hitler" etc are the walking uninformed.
