POW video.

I fail to see why the POW video is a breach of the Geneva convention?

They ask them about their names, where they're from and their rank?

Or is this version an edited one? It's from Danish national TV.

They shall at all times be humanely treated, and shall be protected especially against all acts of violence or threats thereof and against insults and public curiosity.

I think (although i'm not sure) that the geneva convention states that the names may not be brought public of the prisoners of war. Now war haters know the name and can easelly look up where the guy and his family lives.

From a description I read they are all asked "are you here to kill Iraqis?" That's pretty intimidating.

There are no rules in war. The rules are only for after the war.
Then they make up the balance and try to prosecute war
criminals. If people would stick to rules there would be no need
for war...it´s that simple.

When Afghanistan was invaded I seem to recall seeing a lot of prisoners on TV?

I've seen Iraqi soldiers who've surrendered in this war and the last Iraq war?

Anyway, they sure look terrified, understandable. Hope nothing will happen to them.

Instead of freeing Iraquis, BUSH should free his own boys...They are scared as hell and I sure do understand why....

Kids never saw nothing but Texas, were put in a combat that was described " as a cakewalk" and end up prisonners.

I wish them well .

If they say no, that get tortured for lying, if they say yes
they get tortured for trying to kill iraqis.

Thanks for the video link. Christ it wasn't that bad. Remember the ones in the first gulf war. Shit on those videos the guys were all bruised and had the fuck beat out of them.

These guys looked like they were in a hospital or something. If you noticed they were all using their heads and eye movements to signal coded messages.

I can see the point of releasing the identity of a prisoner and the problems surrounding this.
But when I first heard of this video on the news channels I was expecting something really bad. The initial reports were that they were being humiliated, and THAT was the 'infringement'?

To me it seems they don't want the video to be shown on tv for morale reasons, and by saying it's a breach of the Geneva convention they somewhat succeed keeping the video away.

Not even the British news channels will show it. And they are usually very unbiased. As unbiased as you can be when you're part of an invading force.

I watched Fox news a couple of days ago.... very scary....
The theme was "showdown in Iraq", as if it was some sort of entertainment program. It was actually disgusting to watch.

nah at this point I REALLY don't think they give a fuck about being tried for war crimes...They need some of those POW's for leverage... 12 are missing and I only saw 5 bodies on the floor

It's sad. The bright side to this is the Iraqis just proved these POW are alive and will have to be accountable after the war. In this bad situation this video could have just saved their lives.

I just came back from Bondcon NYC. We came back a day early. We didn't see the video until now, however we listend to sky news via sat the drive back.

Nobody on the news said there was a woman captured, do you all remember what happend to the last POW woman?

I am sick to my stomach

I hope they make it out, if it is true what was said earlier and the face of the first guy interviewed was with the dead bodies, lets just hope it was quick.

This is so sad.

The only person that looked like they had their shit together was the Sgt. The first person they interviewed that was lying down looked like he was dead. It was spooky when he got up and started answering questions.

The Sgt? That's the one that I took to be scared shitless and going crazy. You talking about the twitching guy at the end?

The Geneva Convention is not new.

And iraq signed that as well, Along with 160 other nations I believe. in 1949. Another treaty they break.

Judging from the pictures that I saw, they had some of the soldiers shot in the forehead. These were closeup pictures. I would definitely say these soldiers were assassinated from close range. They violated the Geneva Convention, plain and simple.

It didn't look like a shot in the forehead to me.. it was a gash, not a bullethole.

I think it's a bit silly to be saying they've breached the Geneva convention - we've all seen american footage of Iraqi and Afghani POW's and the camp x-ray POW's (which are being held outside the US so that the geneva convention doesn't apply).. They were never asked to give their names of course, but if Iraq just showed pictures people would have said they were just people dressed up as soldiers.. so I can see the need to ask names so it's undeniable.. It's a propaganda victory for the Iraqi's.. It's also a bit rich to be complaining about breaking technical UN conventions when this war doesn't even have UN sanction.
The Geneva convention was written well before the advent of a TV in every home and front-line war journalism, I think to complain about showing prisoners on tv is a bit rich.. I mean they're probably going to do worse with them.. wait until they use them as human shields or something.. What the Iraqis have done isn't so different from American shots of Iraqi prisoners.
Releasing pics of the dead US soldiers is probably the worse action in many peoples eyes even though it's not the bit that breaks the convention.
I also think the only reason they're making a fuss of it is to tone down the propaganda win for the Iraqis.. interviewing soldiers isn't dick compared to all the other fucked up things Saddam has done.
Let's hope they make it home safely. What a fucked up situation to be in.

These guys looked like they were in a hospital or something. If you noticed they were all using their heads and eye movements to signal coded messages.
That was not the full tape. It had been edited. There were parts of the tape where the dead soldiers were picked up by the iraqi solders and held in front of the camera, then tossed to the floor. There WERE gunshots to the head. Execution style.

I don't WANT to see it either, but if i've said that it doesn't look like executions took place and all i've seen is edited stuff then I need the proper information to base my opinions on. I'm trying to be factual and objective... theres no point in baseless opinions.

Apparently those pows were part of a maintance team or something, at the back of a convoy, that's what the guy was talking about "fixing stuff", they're mechanics and shit.
The last place they thought they'd be was in Iraqi hands.

Wow, that one guy was so scared and I feel horrible for him and his family. I can only imagine how scared I would be if I was put into that situation. I played V ball today with some troops stationed near where I live and I thanked them for their service and defending the freedoms we take for granted every day.

They took a wrong turn, that's how they ended up in enemy hands.

FreeHugeMovies: attacking other countries isn't defending freedom.

If this war wasn't going on, you would have 100 percent the same freedom now. Iraq's had chemical weapons for 15 years and never used them on you. They won't next week either. War or not.
