Former Members requesting charge back after rebill

A couple ex-members of my site signed up for a recurring monthly subscription and then after a few days within the second month requested a charge back, claiming that they shouldn't be charged for the extra month even though they requested the cancellation after the re-bill was already processed. It's said on my site that if they want to cancel their recurring membership it has to be done at least 7 days before the date of the next re-bill if they don't want to be charged again. It's not like I'm engaging in any sort of deception.

I have two weeks to respond to our processor in order to have the charge back reversed. Have any of you had success in reversing unwarranted charge backs? What's the best way to have success with this?

Just give them their money back and move on.. It's not worth the hassle. Refunds and chargebacks are just part doing business.

this! If you don't get chargebacks for your sites then you must not make that many sales.. It's just a part of the biz. If you go after every CB you will live a miserable busy life.

Why on earth would you require a member to cancel at least 7 days in advance? There are LOTS of members who think that when they cancel their membership, it will will expire right then, so they purposely wait until day 29 or 30 to cancel.

It's insane how easy it is for someone to claim they were unfairly charged though. Plus, having less charge backs on my history looks better.

I guess I worded it too strongly with "it has to be done". If they cancel at least a day before the next billing cycle they will avoid automatic recurring charges, it's just suggested to cancel earlier just in case any issues arise. In these instances though, they waited between 4 days and one week into the next month before cancelling and requesting a charge back.

You really need to just let it go. It's funny because not to long ago I thought I was fighting chargebacks with such great success and found out that I was, in fact, breaking EXACTLY even. Meaning, the ones I won, half came back as second chargeback and I didn't even realize it.

The way you are talking you obviously have very few chargebacks and likely use CCBill who don't even charge the $25 fee for the chargeback. They just take back the money.

Don't do shit, let it go, and relax. Jeez... you are talking about like $50 or so. It matters NOTHING what your terms state and 7 day prior cancellation notice is not customer friendly or would be looked at in a good light by the CC companies. And it simply does not matter... because these customers will be a 50/50 chance they respond to your response and simply say... DID NOT AUTHORIZE.

Bam... your reversal is then reversed again and called a second chargeback. At that point ccbill or whoever you use will impose fees i'm sure. You have to understand that everyone LOVES chargebacks except for the merchant because it is such a money maker.

Don't do shit and figure out how you can get more chargebacks... ermmm... I mean more sales.

That's a cunty thing to do. I'd charge back aswell.

I refund people even if its a day or two over, you know how easy it is to just dispute the charge.

They just charge back everything, atleast this way you get the first sale and no chargeback fines.

I agree - a customer could reference a policy like that when reporting a chargeback and you'd get into doodoo

Okay thanks for the suggestions guys. It didn't occur to me that the 7 day thing was a bad idea but I see your points.

All depend what the reason of charge back. If the reason is Cancelled Recurring Transaction then there is a chance of success if you got access logs which show they have access the site after rebill....

You need password Sentry buddy to monitor every user

I found this to be exactly how you say. So many either cancel 3 minutes after they join or 3 minutes before midnight on the 29th day LOL
