When I see stuff like this or hear about how many pages long the US Code is, I think back to my 5th grade social studies class wherein we studied Ancient Greece and Rome; I remember reading something about how positive law must be knowable and clear in order for it not to be totalitarian or something like that. I'm no lawyer and am not very bright, but something about that seems familiar to me.

Law are made by those in power who are predominately lawyers!
Over complicated laws are in place to confuse, control, and intimidate the masses with the fear of the repercussions of breaking (even unknowingly) these laws. Now, since the law is unknowable being deliberately made to be so this causes paranoia, anxiety, and fear. Most people are not comfortable with those feelings so they cower passively in front of the authority figures who they perceive as having total control over their lives. They fear and become dependent on those (the government) just as children fear punishment rather than actually respect their parents. This sign is a clear visual representation of this! How many are going to simply say fuck it and NOT park there rather than risk misinterpreting the over complex rules posted there and risk the punishment of a vastly over priced fine! What a great visual illustration of just how this unnecessary complexity of the law works perfectly to control the masses. |
