To educate me? I would like to learn coding and for real, so I would take 4 books about coding, 2 history books and 2 biology books (about animals and ecosystems, not some cell level stuff).

I've been to prison for a year, they don't let you take your own books and I will say the library there is not exactly the Library Of Congress.

I think County jail is worse than prison, at least imprison people have resigned themselves to their fate and it's a bit less stressful.

My cousin just got sentenced to 14 months and we're allowed to send him books. They have to come directly from the publisher (Amazon) and has to be paperback. He has wanted to learn more about programming and internet marketing. I wanted to send him programming language books, but will he be able to learn code by just reading and not doing? I actually learned how to code by having my girlfriend mail me a book on CGI on chapter at a time. I in some facilities you can get away with that.

He has experience with .PHP and has been developing websites for years. He doesn't know how to "code" per se, he's more of the guy who knows how to find code online and manipulate it. So he's not going into this completely blind. I figured he could "write" code with a pen/pencil and paper. Shit, he could write an app using paper and then code it when he gets out and become a millionaire.

I want him to learn Java because I think that's where things are heading. Everything is going mobile and by the time he's released, there will be a huge demand for Java programmers. Java just recently passed .PHP as the language to learn.

Actually CD, he had a pretty damn good defense team. But there was just too much evidence (circumstantial, but evidence none-the-less) where he didn't feel confident taking it to trial. I mean if someone came to me and said you can do 3 years no questions asked, OR you can take it to trial and have about a 15% chance of winning. BUT if you lose in trial, you pay the "trial tax" and be sentenced to the maximum penalty law allows. He said he was happier with 3 years than taking a chance, regardless of how good his attorneys are, and getting 20-25 years. All it takes is a jury having a bad day and you just gave up 20+ years of your life.

I thought we were talking about me here. You asked what books *I* would bring, did you not?

My answer was based on the fact that I'd know that whatever it was I was accused and convicted of, I did not do. Because I'm the type that leads a quiet life, earns his money in a legal way, looks after his house and rental property, buys his groceries at local markets, eats at local resaurants, tips well for good service, holds the door for a lady, and whenever I've made a mess I pick up after myself.

Conclusion: My so-called lawyer must have been either too overburdened and distracted, didn't believe in my innocence, or put up a smart front but was just plain stupid.

Either way I'd obviously have a lot of time to brush up on the law.
