Life in a war zone

I just spoke to a friend who lives in Donetsk in Ukraine. Wow.

Fighting in the area has become too intense so he has left, and he cannot afford to pay his mortgage and rent a place for them to live. He might loose his house and all of the money invested in it. Perhaps even worse, he might be drafted into the military.

Imagine waking up one day and war breaking out on your street, being forced to leave your house "until further notice" and then being drafted into the military.

Holy shit.

I feel for the guy...humans being are a fucked up species whose violence has never been topped and only gets worse as technology increases the potential for destruction.

I wish your friend the best and tell him to forget the material things and think of his own life and just GET THE FUCK OUT alive if he can.

Nothing is worth dying for.

It took a lot of time for you to understand that. The people get killed by the Ukrainian army every day (videos are very graphic so don't click them if you are not ready to see dead bodies).

This is how the Ukrainian army deal with their own citizens.

It's not that hard to imagine that since I am already in reserve, so it doesn't require much drafting, just summoning up. And my dog tags and military passport are within hand reach as I write this, not for fast leaving, just happens to be there.

As I am not from or in Ukraine, this is still in the level of imagining and hopefully it stays that way.

I remember when Iraq invaded Kuwait. It was buried on page 16 of the newspaper. The next day it was front page news. I had been out of the military for less than six months and was considered "inactive reserve". It sure did stop and make me think.

I was in AIT when that happened. (I enlisted when I was 28 years old). The next day the drill Sargent was like "We are going to go over MOP procedures again!"... And 3 months later we got deployed.

Actually the pro-Russian regions don't feel as tho they are Ukrainian, so actually this is what happens when Russians try to secretly invade another country and pose as Ukrainians and encourage some Ukrainians to revolt against their government.

BUT this is exactly how Russia treats its own people and regions they want to control, like chechnya, Georgia, Poland (in the 60's). This is also how Syria treats its own people, something Russia supports...they support Syria doing it, just not Ukraine doing it...go figure

Looks like you have no clue too. Russia is not interested in controlling of the Ukrainian regions. Because no profit can be gained - only problems. The same applies to Georgia. When Georgian army has attacked Russian peace keepers it just got spanked in Israeli-style. As you may know, Russian army could easily take Tbilisi if it wanted so.

As about Poland so I didn't get it. Russian Federation did not exist in 1960. Your education sucks a donkey dick, Sir.

That's pretty semantic as Moscow was in power then, Moscow is in power now, was before CCCP (not immediately) and everybody called Russians as Russians back then, and so do now. So same old, same old.

And you guys called Ukraine Ukraine back then and so do now, as you call them Ukrainians as well.

There was a coup, a democratically elected government was removed, there are now dictators in control of the army.

I can not believe you are that dumb or that clueless
The ONLY reason it is happening is because Russia does not want to lose control of its "satellites" such as Ukraine. They do not want EU influence coming even further near their borders.
Russian imperialistic tendencies is the reason they are supporting those terrorists.
It is as simple as that. Russia wants to keep their influence over Ukraine, that is why all this is happening.
That is how Russia or Soviet Union always operated, wanting to keep their influence and their imperialistic tendencies is in their DNA. It would be shocking if they did not do that, in fact. And the fact that they are doing that is the most natural and expected thing knowing them. Trying to deny is exposing yourself as clueless or as a complete brain ded dead.

Ps: Even though you claim not to be brainwashed by Russian propaganda I am sure you are.
My friend who speaks Russian went to Russia for a week. He claimed: If I was Russian and even the smart one I would probably still fall for the MASSIVE BRAINWASHING that Russian media is pouring every single day. That is how strong it is... And I still remind you of that Ukrainian respected doctor who said that the level of brainwashing is higher than it was during Soviet times..

Dare to compare modern Germany with 3rd Reich? The same capital and they are still Germans. How about Italians? There is no Mussolini anymore, but would you call them fascists?

The only thing you can or can't do is to "believe" because you can't think with your own brain. Educate yourself (Georgian case): http://www.ceiig.ch/Report.html

They are the same folk, but of course mostly their childs and grandchilds when it comes to Germany as it happened some more time ago than the breakdown of the Soviet Union. And I didn't call anyone fascists or something, and I didn't compare Russia to Soviet Union or vice versa. I just called Russians as Russians, you can blame me for that.

You don't change the whole country and it's history just by changing the name. There is continuity, you know. Even the Germans don't say "It wasn't us". They know what they did and they acknownledge it.

What coup? The government legally removed it's president, which all countries have a procedure for including the United States - we call it impeachment.

The difference is the Germany of 2014 is completely different from the Germany of the 1940s, where as Moscow hasn't changed at all - They claim they aren't supplying the separatists but in the past twenty-four hours they sent them twenty tanks.

And before you question my statement about Russia and their level of support....

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2014/07...stern-ukraine/

More than a dozen Russian-made multiple launch rocket systems crossed the Ukrainian-Russian border on Tuesday, according to Andriy Lysenko, the spokesman for the information center of the National Security and Defense Council. Those weapons are artillery, and built for shelling land-based targets.

You are misinformed, Sir. There is an impeachment procedure in the Ukrainian law, but it hasn't been used to "legally remove" Yanukovich. Update your sources

Those were part of USSR, not called as USSR. And yes, there are still Estonians in Estonia, like Georgians in Georgia. And in Estonian historia it is mentioned that it was part of USSR and the history doesn't stop in there.

It isn't a matter whether they have changed or not. And even if it were, people don't change just like that. There is still a bunch of hardcore Nazis in Germany, the real and original ones, as there are a very big bunch of communists in Russia. And this is a comparison regarding just the continuity, not what they have done or haven't done.

For those who can't read Russian. A woman wrote that two months ago an Ukrainian friend of her husband called the citizens of Krymsk (Russia) slaves of Putin. Now he's received a mobilization warrant (the mother-Ukraine wants him to the army) and he is asking if he can move to Krymsk
