Game of Thrones author George RR Martin says '"FUCK YOU" to fans

... who fear he will die before finishing (the) Westeros saga. :D

...some fans fear the 65-year-old will not be able to offer enough material to keep up with the TV adaptation of the series. But others reportedly fear he won?t finish the series at all in his lifetime.

Asked to respond to the suggestions during an interview with Swiss daily newspaper Tages-Anzeiger, Martin replied: ?I find that question pretty offensive, frankly, when people start speculating as to my death and my health.

?So, f*** you to those people,? he added, gesturing at the camera with his middle-finger.

People really need to just shut up and let the guy write. I'd like to get to read the 6th book before *I* die, nevermind anyone else.

Pretty sure after reading the last books....he doesn't have a CLUE how he's going to end it.

Hell, he's already destroyed the entire premise of the books that caught everyone's interest in the first place.

Now he has so many storylines running in so many directions, that I can't see how he can pull it all back in and make it work.

That's probably his master plan anyway. Keep writing this series until he dies. If he actually finished it...then he wouldn't have another book to sell. So just keep the stories going until you die. Then...he won't care anymore. lol

At the rate he's publishing books, even if HBO stretches the next one into two seasons again, there's going to be a gap while they wait for the one after. At that point they will either write their own material, pissing off fans, or they will probably scrap the show when it loses momentum.

I read somewhere that he had already told the producers/directors of GOT how it ends if he dies then they can finish.

I read it on the interwebz so you know it's true

He's actually written several other books, including collaborative efforts with other writers, even some children's books. Aside from GoT's he'll always have 'another book' to sell. This guy is a wellspring of story fodder.

65 is young to be counting the days to someone's death...but I'd take 10 years off for this guy, because he's fat fuck.

But good for him telling them to fuck off.

That's Martin in a nutshell. He loves to say, "Fuck you!" to the fans - all the way to the bank.

Martin also said, "Fuck you!" when he killed off Ned, Rob, John and the rest. He thinks he's cool writing super edgy stories and not "fairy tales." That's fine to a point, but good story telling also needs meaningful characters the reader actually cares about. When readers no longer want to get emotionally invested in any of the characters, the story telling is much less effective. That's why the latest books have sucked ass. His opus is now read and watched primarily for shock value and just to see what crazy shit happens next.

I re-read the series last year from start to finish and it's sad to see how good everything started and where it is now. His last couple of books kind of seem like a bunch of notes he threw at the publishing company and said "There is enough here to make another book"

After watching the HBO series its funny to see the writers there changing the story. I'm guessing its to make the story more cohesive?

Martin fucks himself really. He posts release dates on his blog that he never keeps, if he does post an update he just extends it a year and then will not post for 2 more. The shit he pulled with Dance with Dragons pissed fans off. He put out a chapter, said he was almost there and then 3-4 years later still no updates.

All that said its still one of the best series I have read. Im sitting in front of my PC with a boner just thinking about it. I am wearing my wizards cap...

I saw an interview with the guys that run the HBO show and they said they had to sit down with George and have a discussion with him about how the story ends. They said just in case something were to happen (you never know he could get in a car accident tomorrow and die) and now millions of dollars are riding on his story. Supposedly he gave them a pretty detailed explanation of how it all plays out. I haven't read the books yet (I'm waiting for the entire series to come out), but my understanding is that the last two books in the series will end up each being about 1,500 pages each so he has a lot of real estate to tie it up. Now I guess we just have to wait and see if can do it.

Martin doesn't strike me as the sort of writer who wouldn't have outlined the story start to finish before beginning work on even the first book. I can't imagine any professional novelist just writing blindly and 'winging it' like some suggest.

If I had to guess I'd say that he'll have Daenarys and her massive entourage returning to Westeros. It will be her dragons that in the end saves the world from the white walker threat. She'll reclaim her throne, THE throne, and all the while this is happening Arya will have become little miss super assassin and will have eliminated most if not all on her 'list'. All the side plots (Iron Islands, Dorn, Sam & Gilly, Zombie Caetlyn Stark, etc) will all eventually converge to the main action or will otherwise be wrapped up.

And what of Tyrion? Well, perhaps I'm hoping that in the end he becomes Daenarys's new Hand of the King, or in this case...Queen. :D

George, get that damned writing done. Don't make me come down there and crack the whip on you buddy.

Oh I forgot Bran. He's the one with the 'wog' powers, right? I suspect he is the key that Daenarys will need to fully control her dragons to fight the white walkers. Thus he was drawn north of the wall so he could hone and develop his powers so when the time comes, he's ready.

There you have it, the ending wrapped up in a nice little bow.

Actually, despise popular believing, being a fat fuck doesn't instantly "kill you" if you eat properly.
I know it by my uncle who have 150 kg or more, but still healthy with his 75 years since he eat a lot of vegetables.

I'm not sure. I thought that John Snow would end up with Daenerys and rule together in the end.

But that's not looking so clear to me now for reasons that are obvious to those who have read the books.

I never know what Martin is going to do next...he may kill everybody including Tyrion. I honestly don't think he even knows after reading the last couple of books.

I too have noticed that the show has been veering off of the books a bit. I hope they continue to have their writers tighten the story down before it goes completely off the rails like the books do with what seems like way too many storylines and characters.

I'm sensing much sarcasm. :D

Actually I think I heard somewhere or read somewhere early-on (as in near or around season 1, maybe 2) that Martin had made it clear to the media and fanbase that there isn't any one particular protagonist in the story and that no character is untouchable nor completely safe. There's a random chance element to this story that sets it apart from most if not all others.

Thus I find it rather amusing that so many people are bitching about Ned Stark being killed, or any of the Starks for that matter, or any 'liked' characters dying. There's obviously a bigger picture scenario at work here, and the fact that "no character is safe" means that one thing IS guaranteed to the end --- unpredictability, and realism. Meaning... the story is going to be interesting on a far higher degree than your average hero-defeats-villain-and-saves-the-girl fantasy we've all grown to expect like a bunch of crack addicts demanding our usual fix. And like real life there are no guarantees that any particular 'good' character is going to win or even survive.

I'm sad to see certain characters go, sure, but are they really gone? With all this ressurection stuff going on It's hard to say. And that's the thing that to me is really great about Martin's writing, at least in GoT's. I've attempted here to loosely tie up the bigger picture of the story, but the writer has a good ten million or so ways to bring it all together with all the sub-plots and side-twists he's weaving.

Christ but I get frustrated with some of the comments on different boards and threads. People want it simple. There are "too many side stories". "It's too complex". Then when a book or movie is simple and straightforward they bitch because.... *choke*... IT'S TOO SIMPLE LOL :D

My only hope is that the next few books are worth the long wait. And given the quality of his work up to this point I'm trusting that it will be. Those fans out there constantly bashing and badgering the guy need to just shut the hell up and let the man write.

I'm not saying it should be "simple" necessarily.

But it needs focus and clarity. At this point in the books...I'm not really sure WHAT the storyline is anymore.

Does anybody even give a damn about the "Throne" in Kings Landing anymore?
I don't know.

And I would say that the fact that there are so many people who really enjoyed the first couple of books all complaining would mean that something isn't right.

I think he still might can clean this thing up and pull Fonzie back at the last minute from jumping that shark with his motorcycle...but in my humble opinion he has really painted himself into a corner.

I mean seriously...Bran is now a tree? Come on! LOL!

I get what you're saying, but the fact is it's the writer's perogative to tell HIS story the way he sees it. All the bitching in the world isn't going to change that, and as we're starting to see with Martin it's only going to serve to piss him off further, and quite possibly further delay his future work.

People that are bitching the loudest really might consider writing their own story and telling it the way they want it told, and shutting up about criticizing Martin's work.
