"US President Barack Obama says his government is looking at "all options", including military action, to help Iraq fight Islamist militants."

Fuck, yeah.

Saddam was the Iraqi people's last best hope to remain secular and not return to the 14th century.

As it stands, that country and everybody in it is totally fucked and there ain't nothing anybody can do about it. Indeed they'll be lucky if a future 9-11 style attack isn't traced back to their new rulers and they don't get nuked as a result.

Gotta wonder if Bush and Cheney ever have even a tiny amount of trouble sleeping at night.

Watch the Cheney documentary. You'll see that he has no trouble sleeping. I have a feeling Bush is probably haunted by it.

Congress will urge Obama to do something, then create a new scandal over it after he does what they want.

I don't get how the insurgents have *suddenly* regrouped and are able to take cities.

We're really not being told the whole story here.

Maybe the Bush cash allotment ran out and we stopped paying the insurgents to stop fighting.

Remember "The troop Surge"? The payoffs surged too.

They didn't suddenly surge, they have been fighting in Syria and worked their way into Iraq. These guys are the Islamist side of the rebel groups that were fighting in Syria..

The Syrian war had 3 sides fighting. At first it was actual rebels fighting against the Syrian govt. The Islamist saw a opening and joined forces with the original rebels and they fought together for a short time before turning on each other and creating a three way war. The Islamist have been gaining traction and made the war spread into Iraq.

This is why there was so much arguing among the US policy makers about arming the Syrian rebels, because it was going to be extremely likely that weapons would fall into the hands of the Islamist rebels. The Islamist want to take this shit all the way to Israel so things could turn into a very big powder keg because even Iran has troops involved fighting in both Syria and Iraq.

The Us is not arming the ISIS. The us has been arming the Syrian opposition rebels. They are completely different groups and are fighting each other. The Isis has however captured many weapons in Iraq which were supplied to Iraq by the US. Get your facts straight , show proof or shut up..

They are not new but were affiliated with Al Qaeda for a short time but supposedly even Al Qaeda denounced them for being too extreme. They aren't however the usual tangos as this group actually released their plans for Syria way back in 2008 or 07 and have systematically done what they said they would do. They actually now control much of the electric in Syria and the Syrian govt now has to buy electricity from them. They also systematically go in and take over tax collections in the areas they control creating money to back their cause.

They actually openly state that their goal is to take control of all the oil in Syria and Iraq. That's why they are moving on Iraq now. If you search around you can find the map online of their plans.. They have pretty big ambitions for themselves..

I dont think Iraq will be involved. This has to do with Syria and Bashar al-Assad. I guess they really want to get him badly.

wow ... you repeat the talking points to the dot ....

Quote:
Washington is supplying some Syrian rebels with both ?lethal and non-lethal? aid, according to National Security Adviser Susan Rice, who confirmed the longstanding suspicion that the Obama administration is arming anti-Assad forces.

The US is ?the single largest contributor of humanitarian assistance, providing over $1.7 billion? in assistance, Rice told CNN.

?That?s why the United States has ramped up its support for the moderate vetted opposition, providing lethal and nonlethal support where we can to support both the civilian opposition and the military opposition,? she said.

Previously, American officials claimed that the US sent only non-lethal aid to Syrian rebels, saying they were concerned that if US arms, especially sophisticated ones like portable anti-aircraft missiles, were sent to Syria, they might end up in the hands of terrorists. Media reports, however, suggested that the CIA was secretly involved in training rebel groups and assisting Saudi Arabia and Qatar in smuggling arms to the rebels fighting to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Rice emphasized Washington?s desire to play a more pro-active role in the Syrian conflict by getting Congress approval for more assistance to the rebels in the war that has been ongoing for three years and claimed upward of 160,000 lives.

The aid of hundreds of millions of dollars given by the US since the start of the civil war in 2011 has all gone toward humanitarian assistance, she insisted.

Although details about the specifics of aid and training provided to opposition forces are usually avoided by US officials in interviews, President Barack Obama announced his Syria plans in a foreign policy speech at West Point military academy in late May.

Rebels ?offer the best alternative to terrorists and brutal dictators,? the president said. Now it?s up to Congress to support the idea of and green-light more aid, as is stipulated in the War Powers Act.

In mid-May, Obama met with the leader of the Turkey-based opposition Syrian National Coalition, Ahmad Jarba, and boosted US aid to the Syrian opposition by $27 million.

In the interview, Rice defended the president?s foreign policy, which some critics in the US believe to be passive and overcautious. She insisted that Washington retains strong ties with partner nations and a strong global position.

?I think the fact of the matter is we're living in complex times, there are many different challenges that the United States and the world faces. But our leadership is unmatched. Our role is indispensable,? she said.

The confirmation of America?s lethal aid to the Syrian opposition comes on the heels of the delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Iraq, a country torn apart by raging sectarian violence, which takes dozens of lives daily.

Syria has suffered greatly in the three-year civil war, but its government remains stable and its military is gaining ground in the fight against various opposition forces, many of them foreign Islamists.
.. and you really believe that the US is that good, that they can select the '' good '' rebels from the '' bad '' , with a laser precision ...

They admited that they lied , and they are still lying ... Which arms are they using ... Chineeese ??? oh no, lets go for Russians ... even better : the famous around the world traveling WMD !!!!
Your country supplied arms to Iran in the past, all under cover , and to the '' rebels '' in afghanistan ( Charlies War ) all the time denyiong it ...

Please wake up ...

No we aren't.. You guys should really read up to see who is involved and not just assume stuff.

ISIS is the Islamist group and previously to them getting involved we had been supplying the Syrian rebels weapons. However when the ISIS got involved they started attacking the rebels as well as the Syrian army. When they did they they captured two weapons stockpiles of the rebels. When that happened the US cut support to the rebels and that's when McCain went all over TV blabbing that we should be arming the rebels.

We had already be arming them, but Obama stopped it soon as the ISIS came into the picture, we later started arming the Syrian rebels once again after it was clear the weapons wouldn't fall into the hands of ISIS whom is the group attacking Syria, Iraq and the Syrian rebels. We are not arming ISIS. But they have captured the first two stockpiles from the Syrian rebels and now weapons from Iraq.
