Paysite Owners & Affiliates: How Do You Get Your Traffic?

What is the top way you get your traffic? I know "adult" is a broad term (pun intended?) as it can include cams, dating, toys, etc. But I run Paysites so I am interested in how other paysite owners get their traffic and in what percentages. I'm also interested in knowing how paysite affiliates get their traffic.

I'm wondering what the breakdown is in terms of sources: ads, TGPs, tubes, type-ins, trades, link exchanges, etc.

I think it's important to look at where your traffic is coming from and where to put further effort. So where do you get your traffic from?

I sometimes wonder where I actually got my traffic and sales from, maybe just from nibbling a bit here and there

Practically all of my traffic is Organic SE traffic that I bring in with lots of blogs, works really well for sales so long as it's being sent to good converting sponsors.

Care to name any of these methods?

Interesting that 25k hits from Google only produces 3 sales for srockhard. I would guess more. Interesting!

(And yes, social media is a biggie these days, forgot about that one.)

Buy traffic absolutely not popular. Then who buys all the traffic?

Couldn't vote sorry, I mostly get mine from Social Media/SE. There is a VAST ocean of traffic to tap into from Twitter and Tumblr, to Pinterest, Facebook and Tubes if you know what you are doing. I also class Tubes as Social Media these days due to them giving me access to stats (views/comments/up votes/down votes/etc) for free. So I make use of all that free data to monitor trends and niches (Yes, I'm aware of hitbots etc, but their influence on a popular actress/actor/scene/niche is negligible). The main thing to remember about tapping into the ocean of Social Media traffic is that 99% of people seem to miss entirely that while it is easy to get it requires you to actually work at it daily/hourly to make the most of it. It's certainly not a "fire and forget" source of traffic it was even up to last year for some site (Tumblr being the obvious one to mention!). It needs constant monitoring and tweaking daily, the rewards make it worthwhile though, obviously.

The 2 most important things I have learned from tapping into Social Media traffic sources are:

1) Get to know your sponsor/site owner/reps very well. You can't effectively promote their, or any for that matter, product via Social Media without knowing the people behind it are there to help YOU do this. It is key that you find a good rep/owner and work with them. Yes, I know most reps in Adult are ridiculously terribad at their jobs, but there are a few superstars out there. Find them, work with them, make money with them.

2) Get the models/sites I'm promoting to work FOR me. I can not emphasize this enough. It's supposed to be a partnership so targeting the ones that, again, are prepared to work with you makes this a lot easier. After all, they have the fan base and target audience already in place before you've sent a single unique. So tapping into that to get your slice of the pie is a no brainer. The 99% don't seem to "get" that, though.

Getting traffic isn't the difficult part at all these days, to be honest with you. However, while there is an ocean of traffic to plunder these days, the trick as always remains the same... catching the right fish with your hooks. But that would be going off topic, so I'll just leave it there

I'm currently working primarily on Youtube. As you know you have to go where the traffic is. I have a few hundred accounts. It doesn't seem to work with selling paysites these days but it probably would have worked very well in 2008.

You're right there, that was my main strategy when I first started out, now in 2014 I doubt it's even 3% as good

Bah I was fighting with Kora so the social media part of it was blocked out for the moment. That's my lame ass excuse. LOL You're right - social media is the main one I left off.

Youtube is interesting but I never knew how to work that angle. I was too busy building paysites. Which is also why I have Kora do our social media. Models/actresses seem to have the time/knack of whipping out their i-Phones 12 times a day and tweeting about absolute bullshit. LOL I find it so mindless, even the "debates" that rise up, that I mentally block it all.

And, as always, you have to factor in ROI, which includes time. If you're fishing for one or two sales it may be worth it but if you're trying for dozens of sales you look for the "big nets" first. Then you realize you can build your own net, little by little over time....

Contact Rebel Ads, I know they work with some TGPs still. Also look for The Hun here on GFY and contact them through Cybercat.

Sounds like you spent too much time building paysites and nowhere near enough time building traffic my friend.

Far too many traffic sources missed off your list there and if you "don't get" twitter you are missing a HUGE trick.

BINGO we have a winner! (I will have to owe you the chciken dinner I'm afraid...)

I spent 5+ years building paysites and getting traffic from my top affiliates. But building my own traffic sources, or focusing all my time on traffic acquisition, just wasn't possible. Now, with two networks (and more to come), two Affiliate Programs etc, I am able to spend some time focusing on in-house traffic.

I know I left a lot off the list. Maybe others can add them for us all.

We closed all of our paysites but one to concentrate on just that one in 2005 which I am pleased about looking back now
