It's supposed to be a partnership so targeting the ones that, again, are prepared to work with you makes this a lot easier. After all, they have the fan base and target audience already in place before you've sent a single unique. So tapping into that to get your slice of the pie is a no brainer. The 99% don't seem to "get" that, though.
