Look at it from a marketer's point of view. Pretty good free press for Eurovision and Austria. They even managed to reach the audience that doesn't care about the Eurovision (me, as an example).

To me that says their campaign was a success and that is all that matters from a business point of view.

Nope. The voters got nothing to say if the "Jury" says so:

It has been hailed as victory for tolerance and a counterblast to a creeping tide of homophobia.

But, it seems, the Great British public was less enamoured by Austria?s 'Bearded Lady', Conchita Wurst, who swept to Eurovision victory preaching a parable of trans-continental camp, than they were by the amply displayed décolletage of the group of rustic milk churners that accompanied Poland?s 14th-placed entry.

For the first time yesterday Song Contest organisers revealed both the public and the jury votes for each act.

Yet whilst the official UK panel gave the maximum 12 points to the disarmingly hirsute cross-dressing Conchita, it relegated Polish duo Donatan & Cleo to the lowest place in the order.

By contrast the tele-vote result in the UK saw the Poles named as runaway winners. Ireland also followed suit, with the public similarly awarding first place to We Are Slavic compared to the last position given by its panel.

The Norwegian and Ukrainian public were also impressed by the Polish entry voting it their favourite song again contradicting the findings of their national juries which placed it 19th and 25th respectively.

Tele-votes in the Netherlands and Iceland ranked the Poles in second place whilst Austria, Macedonia, France, Germany and Sweden put them third.

A Eurovision spokesman denied this was evidence of a cultural disconnection between the popular winner and that favoured by the official judges in what has become an increasingly fractious and politicised contest which saw teenage Russian entrants booed by sections of the audience.

There you have it, folks. Great victory for tolerance lol

I guess all the gay people around the world voted for him/her. It's hard to even look at him but at least has a decent song and voice.

Where would the porn industry be without the "normal family model"

The porn industry up in arms about Eurovision. The world is truly upside down.

Conchita for president!
A little about that.... Russian men are shaving their beards in protest. Saying, it's no longer more manly to wear a beard.

But at the same time... "Rise Like A Phoenix" became the #1 download on Russia's iTunes. In fact, it's #1 AND #4 (as of yesterday, for recorded track and live at Eurovision version).

Anyone who's ever seen Eurovision, which has been around for 52 years btw, knows it is a show unlike any other mainstream sort of competition and it's huge. The best part is the voting process (which takes nearly an hour). Watching this all play out, it was obvious that it was Conchita's show to win. Russia's intolerance of gay people certainly didn't hurt the support for Austria's performer, no doubt. But that doesn't take away from the spot-on James-Bond-esque vocal performance that he/she delivered. Whatever your take on his/her appearance, it worked. It won. And it's sparked a lot of discussion.

And, cheers to your comments MaDalton.

because he plays a character - it's a guy that wants to stay a guy in real life (a gay guy though)

but the whole "Conchita Wurst" thing is him playing an invented character with the goal of showing that it doesnt matter if someone is male or female or straight or gay

when you say in german "es ist wurst" it means "it doesnt matter" - that's why he picked that name

and yes, amusingly enough he got quite a lot of votes from the russian audience, just not from their jury. still enough for 5 points from them

he (his marketing team) picked the name because it's suggestive, and he keeps the beard to rile everyone up. That's it, there's no deep meaning.
After the marketing team invented this bad joke of an act they fabricate an argument to use to sell it to the public, which is the tolerance story, as well as the beard story. Arguments like this get eaten up by the people who are generally naive and eat up stuff like this.

I can imagine how shit the other songs were when a bearded lady won just because she is a bearded lady and no other apparent reason...

you know, i showed this picture of "feminist porn actors" posted by someone in another thread to someone who is actually gay. I asked him, if he is aroused by that. He answered "no". I guess that he is looking for guys looking like guys and not guys looking like women, while i'm personally looking for women looking like women...

So, before we start to claim that gay people are for that and not for nazi art:
...example:
http://www.yadvashem.org/yv/en/educa...sculptor5b.jpg
, we should perhaps ask them first what they really think.

I don't think it is relevant to overvalue the political side of homosexuality to understand gay people..
