A little about that.... Russian men are
shaving their beards in protest. Saying, it's no longer more manly to wear a beard.
But at the same time... "Rise Like A Phoenix" became the
#1 download on Russia's iTunes. In fact, it's #1 AND #4 (as of yesterday, for recorded track and live at Eurovision version).
Anyone who's ever seen Eurovision, which has been around for 52 years btw, knows it is a show unlike any other mainstream sort of competition and it's huge. The best part is the voting process (which takes nearly an hour). Watching this all play out, it was obvious that it was Conchita's show to win. Russia's intolerance of gay people certainly didn't hurt the support for Austria's performer, no doubt. But that doesn't take away from the spot-on James-Bond-esque vocal performance that he/she delivered. Whatever your take on his/her appearance, it worked. It won. And it's sparked a lot of discussion.
