The general consensus among liberals is that he has been a huge disappointment, but McCain in '08 or Romney in '12 were not good alternatives even in hindsight.

Conservatives had previously called Jimmy Carter the worst president of all time. Now they think that title belongs to Obama.

People in the center are becoming jaded by American politics and generally do not trust either party right now. But since a choice has to be made, they are leaning towards the Republicans. Their view of Obama is that he is very weak and that McCain or Romney may not have been a bad choice looking back.

Leaning toward Republicans? I really don't think so. I've yet to ever talk to anyone in person whom has been a life long Democrat that has switched to Republican. Most of your high population centers which is were the majority of votes come from are very liberal and I don't see these people turning or even slightly leaning toward the Republican side as most people see the Republican party as worse than the Democrats.

Just because there is a bunch of vocal republicans on the internet doesn't mean that's how the majority of the people think.

He said center people, not lifelong democrats were leaning.
However I agree - Democrat party will be on the rise as minorities grow in numbers + poor grow in numbers. 47% is just growing and that is bad news for republicans.

Here's the rundown. Speaking from a person from another country looking in, Obama seems like a good guy. Alot of what he says makes sense and he seems to be doing a good job.

Republicans hate black people, and they have their panties in a bunch now that a black man is actually President of the United States. They are all racists but of course they can't say that.

They also can't attack Obama directly either because as I said, he's a pretty good president. So instead, they attack a made-up obama instead. "Let's say he's wasn't born in America!", or, "Lets say he's a socialist / communist" or "Let's call him a Muslim!", or "Let's say Obamacare is a job killer", or the best one ever, "Obama says 'you didn't build that'". This last one, should have embarrassed the hell out of every republican on GFY.

Try to ignore the noise from the racist righties and you'll see that Obama's a pretty decent prez', or, so-says Mark Prince the Canadian liberal hippie.

Peace!

A few good things...

No war in Iran.
No Keystone Pipeline.
Porn is still legal.
No oil drilling in the Arctic.
No war in Syria.
Looser marijuana laws.
No war with Russia.

A few bad things...

Still way too much money in politics.
Still no term limits for most political positions.
Nowhere near enough alternate energy progress.
Nowhere near enough corporate and banking regulations.
Not enough punching Republicans right in the face.

So it's been a mixed bag, so far.

The weird truth of the matter is, with Obama as the President (or ANY Democrat for that matter), the Republicans are getting much more of what they want as the party of "No" then they could have ever accomplished if they were actually in charge.

Obama has overcompensated by leaning waaaaay too far right, in order to not be considered a commie/socialist, etc.

He didn't regulate the banks enough, or Wall Street, or Big Oil, or Big Pharma, or Big Agriculture.

He didn't force infrastructure hard enough.

He hasn't weakened the anti-freedom Patriot Act.

His recovery budget was nowhere big enough to get the job done faster.

He implemented Bob Dole's conservative healthcare plan, instead of single payer, etc.

If a Republican came into office instead of Obama, the conservative Republicans would have done what they always do - skyrocket the debt - start idiotic wars - cut taxes on those who should be paying more, etc.

The Democrats would have never allowed DoleCare or RomneyCare to become law, but since a Democrat was elected, all sorts of shitty Republican right-wing crap has gone through, or at least has not been challenged.

Part of me wonders if another Republican president might just be what this country needs, to put the final nail in the coffin of the Republican party.

Imagine in 2016 we elect a Republican and right off the bat we get into another war. It will be game-over for the GOP.

What do Republicans even stand for? No abortion - religion should be taught in schools - corporations shouldn't have to pay taxes - unions should be abolished - there shouldn't be any minimum wage - polluters should be allowed to shit in your water - world problems can be solved by war, etc.

What an idiotic and ridiculous party platform. Sadly half the voters are so fucking stupid, that they still vote against their own best interests every time. PATHETIC.

How conveniently you miss the main thing they stand for - hard working people should not be punished by higher tax percentage in order to give that money to lazy welfare leechers.
That single thing motivates people to earn their living instead of the opposite where you know you would be punished by higher taxes if you earned more. And your money would be gifted to lazy leechers.

I agree that war mongering and couple other things are bad in republican views, but this single thing overcompensates for all the bad views.

He talks a great talk. Enough so that as a sworn conservative I supported him. Unfortunately regardless of his amazing rhetoric his actions been a huge disappointment.

He seemed like a great solution to the GOP policies that were consolidating and expanding power in the executive branch of our government and weakening the checks and balances that keep the same from overstepping its bounds, however in actual practice he has made the situation much worse.

On the positive side, as a gun owner, 2nd amendment advocate and gun enthusiast, I as well as many others have been very disturbed by his anti gun initiatives, however in point of fact I think few presidents have done more to increase gun ownership in the US, to the point where ammunition in common calibers have been hard to find.

Again on the positive side I think Obama has illustrated to any who observe that both parties in the US are just two sides of the same fucked up coin and and any "solution" must be sought outside the two party system, (or possibly outside the country) which to me (and I believe many others) is broken beyond repair.

Either way I think the lesson is that the presidency is not the solution nor the problem that we need to be paying attention to, rather it is all the other stops along the way to that office, Congress, House, all of that needs greater attention and participation from the average voter, not just a few professional interested parties. Anything else and the American people are just cattle in a pen waiting to be slaughtered by whoever gets the most of someone else's votes.

The "lazy leachers" is a funny phrase used by Fox and Hate Radio to distract you from reality. No party runs AGAINST hard work, and no one wants taxes raised on the poor or the middle class.

The richest people and largest corporations are the REAL leachers, but they have a plan. They convince idiots to rail against their fellow citizens, to make sure you don't focus on the REAL villains.

Unfortunately, their brainwashing works like a charm on the naive and the gullible.

I have a very, very strong feeling that mineistaken doesn't watch Fox News or listen to "Hate Radio." He can correct me if I'm wrong. It's very interesting how anyone that has an opposing opinion is instantly labeled as an ignorant Fox News watcher.

Makes one wonder which person is brainwashed?

Left parties (commies, socialists and similar) always hate on the rich and tries to "give it to the poor". Which basically is raising taxes for the most productive people and "redistributing" that money to the unproductive. Punishing productive people, encouraging unproductive. This is the core position of left parties.
That is why I always say that no productive society member should vote for left parties. And I am always surprised when I see seemingly intelligent and productive person advocating leftists views. In case of US that would be democrat party.

That is the empty rhetoric that the folks at Fox Noise and hate radio spew out all day long.

It's a good thing you're too smart to fall for it.

Because that is true. I do not believe you would be stupid enough to claim that fox news are 100% wrong on everything

Do you understand the concept of parties and their ideologies? Communists have own ideology, socialists have own ideology, conservatives have own ideology and so on. These ideologies is not something you learn on biased channels, these ideologies are ideologies - they are universal for me and for you.

This is the way I feel to a degree. With that said...

2257 - I am under the impression that 2257 stopped because it was never properly funded along with the Adam Walsh law.

Business & Economy: Honestly, anyone could have fixed this. The only thing needed was time.

Bin Laden - This too was a matter of time. Thankfully someone had the balls to give the go order.

Health Insurance - We would have had this with Mitt.

At the end of the day, I don't really see much of a difference between Presidents. Taxes will go up no matter what and we'll do our best not to pay them. Congress will pass new laws, little of which will have any serious affect on anyone. We bombed a country, invaded a country - This will happen no matter who is in office. No matter what decisions are made, half the country will bitch, and the other half will be happy.

I've noticed what does have an effect on my life is local government. My hometown has cut it's police department nearly in half, shut down fire stations, closed the city pool, and the city employees went on strike.

We need a show like "America's Got Talent" called "America's Next President". Throw 128 guys out there to explain their platforms over the course of a few months and have the people vote for America's next and hopefully viable third party candidate.

They don't like Obama in Indiana. I can tell you that much.

Do you understand the concept of parties and their ideologies? Communists have own ideology, socialists have own ideology, conservatives have own ideology and so on. These ideologies is not something you learn on biased channels, these ideologies are ideologies - they are universal for me and for you.
Some good points, I will concede.

I think history will remember him kindly.

Something had to be done about health care....at least he did something, right or wrong it is a change and it will lead to further refinements down the road, it may end up being Universal healthcare...who knows but at least he did SOMETHING.

If you try and fail I give you credit...if all you do is whine and bitch well yer just a bitch...

PATHETIC.
Smartest post in this whole tread.

Obama?

I make more money and pay more taxes => economically a net gain ++.

My health insurance is very expensive but with a pre-existing condition I have been able to get the medical care and surgeries I needed => I am not dead ++.

Harassment enforcement of the Republican authored USC 18 §2257 has ceased, lightening the anal recordkeeping burdens of being in the adult webcam business ++

We are exiting the ''terrorist wars'' in the middle east ++

I am more concerned in 2016 if it will be two steps forward and one step back.

Overall, Obama has done good by me.

In the USA many people (including Americans) do not understand this but the president is primarily just a figurehead. It's congress who makes the laws. I think he's done fairly well with the power he has (not much) but he should have stood up more to the Right as opposed to going along with them in the hope that they will compromise when they mostly will not.

just another corporate puppet.

Even though, I had hoped for more out of him. Not nearly as bad as GW Bush though.

stop talking about shit you know nothing about and certainly knock it off with the "many people don't understand" bullshit since you are clearly one of them.
