What is it with some people? You're sitting there working away, maybe also dicking around on a few boards, radio playing, coffee brewing..... and an ICQ comes in.

"hey"

And you're like.... okay, hey what? You don't recognize the person, so you say "hello"

then nothing for a minute or two. Then....

"I wanted to ask you about ________" ... could be trading links, buying traffic or content, could be design work, whatever.

You say back "sure, what did you need help with?" ..... you know, being friendly.

Then nothing. 5 minutes goes by, you're still working, posting, what-have-you.... and you realize that the guy hasn't said anyting. So you shoot another message to him saying "Okay, well let me know if I can help you with anything"

and nothing. I get at least 1 to 3 of these people every fucking day, out of all the people that I communicate with. Has another 10% of the population gone mental without me knowing about it?

It could be that your ICQ protection is turned on. That way people that are not on your ICQ list can't send you messages with URLS in them. I mean they can send, but the message won't go thru.

So you like: what can i help ya with ?
And he is: my site http://blah-blah.com needs some traffic or whatever.

And that message won't go thru to you.

You do know that is your chatting with someone who is not on your ICQ list somtimes the msg does not go through.

Happend to me a few times, I was chatting, sending messages and I though I was being ignored. I emailed the person who I thought was ignoring me and they said the only msg they got was "Hey".

Thankfully they did not get "why the fuck are you ignoring me you fuck head" , lol

Yup agreed...ICQ is fucked up.I get that all the time. unless they are in your list sometimes you have to shut it down and restart.Also if requesting trades with urls you have to place a space inbetween www icqfuckingsucks .com

Uhmmm, good info. I have ICQ, but use it through Trillian.

I've encountered these 'no reply' messages too and just thought the person was too busy or away from their desk to reply.

If the message does not go through, does ICQ advise the sending party? Is there anyway to see if a message was actually received?

I get this all the time too if you are invisible or anything but
active online ICQ often drops messages.

Its frustrating on both sides of the fence.

often people send you a icq about your webmaster program and you dont get it. So they think your ignoring them and they just move to the next sponsor. When in fact ICQ is justa pile of shit.

It cost me buisness all the time I am sure.
