I was on the beach in Malibu once years ago, in early September. It was around 70 F that day, I was swimming and building sand sculptures. There were a lot of thin-blooded Californians walking around wearing jackets and sweaters walking by and sometimes casually gawking at the crazy Canadians who thought it was a nice day for a swim.
