Was a great fight.... but like all good fights something got in the way of ending it. Should have just done the deed and all would be good....

It went super boring lately. Except for the last head crash scene - a little too gross, I'd check the mental status of the director.

I was disappointed as shit in this last episode. I was more wondering what happens in all of the other threads, not this nights watch crap... I was waiting the entire time for it to switch over to the other stuff and it never happened.

If I remember the books right, the nights watch and what happen at and beyond the wall was among the best stuff. It has not been treated fair in the series up to this point, making it hard for people to grasp that the defence of the north is the main story, not all the other stuff.

I thought the show did the siege of castle Black justice. (Justice as to how it was written originally in the book) Very well done, I see no disappointment in it whatsoever.

Expectations are high for the final episode, but then again every season thus far has had a pretty damn good season finale. Last year's "Misande" scene at the end (freeing of the slaves) actually moved me to tears, as did "the birth of the dragons" closing scene at the end of the first season. Very moving moments. I don't know quite what to expect for a final scene this season, but even during times when I've been a bit disappointed there's always next year, and a lot more of the story to come, a lot more ground to cover. You guys that say you're disappointed with this or that should stop and think... once this series is done it's done. Enjoy the fuck out of it while you can, and quit griping if things aren't always done *your* way.

The episode was disappointing compared to the Blackwater battle episode, mostly because the actors were not as good. The people playing John Snow, Ygritte, Tormund etc are all fine actors... but not as good as Tyrion, Cersei, Joffrey, the Hound, etc... so the battle felt more informative than interesting.

Today's chatter has been mostly about how underwhelming the final episodes have been, and how this one can break that trend. Traditionally, the next-to-last episode has had the major shocker, but for those of us who read the books, you're right: the final episodes are much more important to us.

i love that the last episode was dedicated to the one story line. those fight scenes were awesome. i was on the edge of couch in total suspense wondering who would live or die. i have not read the books so its all new to me

Most of the changes, I've liked. There are some good summary articles on which characters became composites, what plot points changed, etc.

The one part I don't like is when they kill someone off or do something drastic it has to affect the books. Not that Pyp was about to rule Westeros... but Im fairly certain his role in the upcoming books will be nonessential at best, so it does undercut some of the mystery of reading it. ![]() |

Half way in I was sure it would not change... Fucking shitty episode, all that could have been fitted into 1/4th of episode... I am really disappointed, how do you call that thing when they stretch things just to fill the time...

The next season of the HBO fantasy is said to be based on Books 4 and 5 in A Song of Ice and Fire.

I found the battle quite exciting. For one thing the differences you pointed out were the very things I was keeping an eye out for, because I've read the books so I should know 100% what happens. But with those differences popping up here and there it makes things MORE interesting for those of us who've read the books. I also like spotting the parts where they held true to the books. Case in point: the part where the giant and that mastodon thing made a run for the gate, I was just waiting for the crows to drop that burning oil down on them. Then when there were northmen halfway up the wall I was again just waiting for Jon to cut loose that "swipe" thingy that took the lot of them out with one swoop. The effects used to create that scene were awesome. In short I like that the series isn't precisely following the books, but I also like that they aren't straying too far from them either. It keeps some element of surprise in it for those of us who are far ahead in the story via the books. For those of you who haven't yet read the books --- for god's sake READ THEM. And don't disagree with me, just do it. You will understand this series far far better if you read the books. Then you won't be running here complaining about such things as "pacing". :D

In my opinion...this was the end of the books being "good".

After this they Jumped The Shark to me. The storylines become convoluted and too "Busy" with a million mundane offshoots. Basically, the entire reasoning for my initial interest is gone by the next book. There is no war anymore. Most of the main characters are dead. The ones left, are in far flung places and adventures with no bearing on the original storyline. I really think that George R.R. Martin spread it out too thin, and never really had any "ending" for the entire story. To me the last book just meandered about with no focus at all. He would need to do one hell of a major kick-ass writing spree to save the series (of books that is). That is why I think the script writers on HBO are starting to condense and change some of it. Martin simply seems to have lost his touch as the series of books went on. And now it's been a few years since he's been able to get the next one out. I've read a few things that say he is in total writer's block. Wouldn't surprise me. I really, really enjoyed the first couple of books. But for those of you who have read them, you know it's starting to get maddening when there never seems to be any resolution for any of the storylines. |

And Tyrion Lannister has paid his debts! Now begins the long dark winter that is summer and fall without "Game of Thrones." Can?t wait to catch up with all the characters in season five? |
