Picked it up, strummed a few chords, did a few riffs and ended up leaving with this:

2013 Les Paul Studio - Wine red

Mahogany body with Solid Carved Maple top
Mahogany neck with slim, fast ’60s-style profile
Coil-tapped 490R and 498T humbucking pickups in the neck and bridge (will upgrade these)
Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece
TonePros™ vintage style tuners with 14:1 tuning ratio

For it being a weight-relief design, it's sure some heavy. Sustains a loooong ass time, too.

I'm really happy with it.

dyna mo 11-30-2013 05:42 PM

oh, right on, did you gety the mini etune?

dyna mo 11-30-2013 05:44 PM

what do those pickups sound like in single coil mode? do they twang? is it straty or p-90y?

They didnt have a mini-etune one setup there and this was last one of this color left. But I'm going to see if I can find an after-market one

The coil-tap is not quite straty.. more like a p90 actually, still sounds good though. Hard to tell difference in distortion mode though. It's a pretty hot pickup even in single mode.

I cant get over how good the neck and frets feel on this.

congrats man, i read that link on it you provided and i am some what familiar with the model, it sounds like a fantastic guitar.

i think it looks fucking far out with the pickguard too eh.

iwantchixx 11-30-2013 06:01 PM

Honestly, I dont think I ever played anything like this in my life... damn

open chords ring out for like 2 minutes haha

Thanks, im really enjoying it.

Yeah, it's one sekzy beast! Gold hardware on this would look so effin awesome, too.

iwantchixx 11-30-2013 10:13 PM

Still lovin this,, but I finally put it down. Breaking in new blisters lol

Whoever did the setup on this didn't stretch the strings or wind them enough around the tuner pegs, though. Some hard to keep in tune. Dummy me, forgot to pick up a set of 11's on my way out of the shop. So will have to wait a few days to fix it.

Did I already mention how incredible the sustain is on this darn beast? Honestly, I let an open D chord (tuned to dropped-D) and typed a small convo with someone with my free hand and then realized, shit.. it's still going... Maybe its the slight feedback pushing it.. dunno.. but damn.. No double-strumming on long-assed chord rings for this fella anymore..

SO not used to playing a real LP. Haha

X_X_ROB_X_X 11-30-2013 11:30 PM

Where's the ones with the air guitars?

well, crud, i just finagled a deal for a 2013 gibson les paul 60s tribute gold top for $799.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........debating... ...................it has the bb 1 & 2 though, not the '57 classics

The BBs do sound very nice, too, though. You could always swap out pickups later

iwantchixx 12-01-2013 01:01 PM

My best advice to you man, go into a store and try some. There still should be some big sales on as Gibson has instructed many stores to do sales on tribute and studio models.

A lot of people knock the quality of Gibsons in this price range but I just have a few spots that should have had more care put into them and needed extra sanding but it's negligible. I'd pick the Gibby over the EPI any day

dyna mo 12-01-2013 04:49 PM

i haven't pulled the trigger yet. gonna hold out to see if there's a cyber monday deal.

They are probably releasing 2014 models before christmas. My guitar was last one for it's location.

Lot of consumer good go that way (releasing before the calendar year actually starts)

and that one is with the burst buckers? Did they list a price? be quick to check it when the deal is live, they might only have 2-3 in stock (lotta places running low on lower priced gibsons)

ye, the burstbuckers, which i am actually looking forward to, i've been doing some online comparisons between them and the '57s and i'm liking what i'm hearing/reading. i'll give a good whirl here though.

yeah, it says the deal goes live at 7am, not sure where that 7am is though! hah. i'm an early riser mostly so i should be able to time it right.

Interesting, the price point mine was geared for was 1399,, now theyhave a pro model upcomming at that price point.

Id be curious to know if the pro brings more guitar or they just lowered the bar for pro name

The more I compare, too. The more I like the bursts as opposed to the 57-59 setup. It's just got much more clarity and more brilliance to it, which would be welcoming. The stock pickups in this one are kind of "blah" on cleans.. I'd lose the coil-tap ability, though, unless I can find 3-wire pickup versions of the BBs

iwantchixx 12-01-2013 07:18 PM

There was a comparison of 57 vs bb vs something else I found recently on youtube. Was some $30 pickup. The $30 pickup sounded better on overdrive but only beat the 57 on cleans (IMO, that is).

MacGyver 12-01-2013 08:45 PM

Not sure if this was asked yet, but is #4 Angel Dark?

Glad you went with the Strat. Since you have a pretty big collection of guitars (and still growing), have you considered some of the more exotic, boutique ones yet? I don't know your inventory so I figured I'd ask anyway. Check out some of AtelierZ basses and guitars from Japan. Solid stuff!

I am a fan of Japanese made guitars. 3 of these are Ibanez and I would consider the JEM 7V the best player I own. All of the Ibanez guitars I've played have been extremely well designed and built. The Jackson soloist I believe is from Japan. The Roswell came out of their custon shop.

very funkified!

i'm guessing the reason you have not posted pics of your entire collection in 1 photo is due to not have a wide angle lens and not being able to step back far enough to get them all in one shot?

That, and I was too busy over the weekend to get them all out of the cases. I have 14 of them hanging on a wall, 7 more on a new stand and a few more on single stands. The remaining 7 are in cases.

i can't figure out wtf they are doing with their product line. the weirdest part for me is when you find a body you can afford and like, you have to go with whichever pickups it comes with, which is a big deal for me. '57s, burstbuckers, burstbucker pros, 480r/t, those new(?) zebra coils.......i know zebra coil style is not new but calling a humbucker a zebra coil doesn't really mean much either/

the standard lp comes with bb pros. those are close to the bottom for me on pickups i am interested in.
