Used to be able to buy 500 round bricks for $10.00 on sale. Regular price $15-20.

President [insert current president here] is going to ban [insert ammo or firearm type here] shortly so you had better stock up.

do you think buying up huge swaths of ammo would impact the material availability for all types of ammo?
So, would manufacturers be trying to fill the orders for PDs and other peeps, before filling the .22 orders? |

The distributors handle certain manufacturers leaving many other MFGs open to regular production and sales. Also, just because Homeland contracts for X # of rounds does not mean that it's all at once or even that the full # is actually delivered. As far as material availability, yes you have a good point there but in most cases the MFGs don't fill LE orders first as LE typically does not buy direct from the MFG. I'm friends with the owners of a fairly well known high end ammo manufacturer. Before Sandy Hook, they had over 3 million rounds of .223 ammo in their warehouse and all their distributors were well stocked. Within 2 weeks of the shooting, their warehouse was empty and their production was backordered for over 2 years. Normal citizens are buying the ammo and creating the supply and demand issue more than Government contracts are. |

according to the stats of the iraq war, enough ammunition for heavy fighting in the US, for a 20-35 years depending on how large the second buy was this included hollow-points. I understand consumers did massive buying sprees, but it's said the reason there is a shortage is this DHS buying spree Last i heard, and it's been awhile, the government/senators started sending letters demanding explanations |

"but it's said the reason there is a shortage" According to who? Something you read on the Internet or actual experiences you have in the firearms business? The Government buying numbers are bullshit. Again, they contract for X amount but the delivery is far less. "D.H.S. officials have pointed out repeatedly that bulk buying — whether ammunition, computers or stationery — is the norm for reasons of economy, and is especially sensible in the era of sequestration so zealously approved by Congress. D.H.S. says that its plan to buy about 750 million rounds in the next five years — 80 percent for training purposes — is not unusual." http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/...nspiracy/?_r=0 750 million is a far cry from 1.6 billion and it's spread out over 5 years. |

Federal Ammo is located here in MN. My friend is an engineer there. I bug him all the time about ammo since I hunt and shoot quite a bit. He said their shortage/price rise is due to a number of things and can't be blamed on 1 in particular. They are transitioning to a new facility, increase in materials has led to increase in prices. He said the biggest reason for the shortage is regular citizens hoarding. There was a shortage before Sandy Hook, in fact it started when Obama got elected. Originally the shortage started with .223/5.56.(ar-15 ammo) Since then it has bled over into other calibers. They simply can't make enough ammo to keep up with demand. Their sales numbers have gone up x10 since 2008. Hell, i was on armlist selling 7.62x39 ammo I had paid 14 cents a round for and reselling at $1 a round.

What I'm referring to is me making more money through the firearms industry over the last 3 years than in the adult industry. It's called "personal experience" instead of uneducated opinions. I deal with firearms and ammo companies daily. Forgive me for providing facts. |
