The opposite of a chick flick is a testosterone fest. "Old School" is exactly that but so much less than it promises. Mitch Martin, played by Luke Wilson is a 30-year-old Real Estate lawyer who just found out his long time girlfriend has been leading a secret sexual life. His two best friends, Beanie played by a disappointing Vince Vaughn, and Frank, portrayed by an underused Will Ferrell, try to get him back on his feet.

In an extremely weak attempt to get the plot rolling, Jeremy Piven enters as the dean of a local college. He just so happens to have gone to high school with the three pals and shows up out of the blue, enters Mitch's new house without knocking and announces (to a Real Estate lawyer) that his house's boundaries fall under the college's jurisdiction and he needs to vacate unless it is used for college purposes. What the?

To continue the flimsy premise, Beanie comes up with the brilliant idea of turning the house into a fraternity so Mitch can stay. They invite not only students but non-students including themselves and an old guy who hangs out in front of stores. There are a couple of funny situations during the pledge process but "Old School" is seriously lacking not only in plot and performance but in laughs. Since laughs would be the only reason someone would see this film, I strongly suggest you stay away...far away.

Not only is "Old School" not funny, it's downright depressing. Frank separates from his wife, Beanie contemplates cheating on his and Mitch ends up sleeping with an underage high school girl. Not funny. And that's not even mentioning the fact that they tried to combine "Animal House," "Back to School" and "Revenge of the Nerds" and ripped off plot elements from each. That's all before it falls completely apart at the end.

"Old School" is a seriously disastrous film. The only bright spot was the whacky antics of former Saturday Night Live player Will Ferrell who is nude though most of the film. Ferrell is completely fearless and utterly zany. He is better than fluff like this. Some Hollywood producer needs to give him his own television show to save him from atrocities like "Old School."
