SE Question

As you all know I've been working on a paysite for my fiance Allie. Well, were getting there but we still have some small details were working on before we start marketing it. So, I have 2 SE questions I'm hoping someone can help with:

1. Would it help, hinder, or have no effect to load the "text scroll box" on the index page http://www.naughtyallie.com with a shitload of keywords?

2. Does it help at all to use Meta Tags on pages that are not index.htm pages?

Thanks

That's a good question, If the scroll is set as bold and larger then the surronding text, then it may make a diff, thing is I don't think the SE will pick up on words not showing in the scrow. Only those displaying when it hits the page for crawling.

Our SEO is out till Monday, this would be a good question. I do know that Google flakes out on JS from what I have been told.

#1: It would not help on Google since html embedded code is more or less ignored (its used as a last resort if there's no text on your page) but it will not help nor hinder your results (unless your obviously trying to abuse your ranking. For other SE's it may provide little benefit but its hardly worth it.

#2: Similiar result as above for Google. META Tags are disregarded entirely by Google unless there is no text on your page. On Altavista it might provide little to no benefit, but again, don't abuse your rankings...

1. I have a site with a marquee text scroll & those keywords all show up in my search engine listings so probably a text scroll box would be no different.

2. Yes, it helps for search engines other then google to have page-specific Meta Tags.

If you are using hahahahahahahahahaha to do the scroll then the words wont make the slightest bit of difference.

As for metas **ALL** Search Engines still read them and yes they do help

Lee

Tipsy,

Once again, get your head outta your ass.

What Search Engines that are not PPC based do not use Metas? Also which ones read JS?

Lee

Google does use meta tags only if there is no other text on a page, for example if its flash based or entirely graphical. Google does not provide any boost based on meta tags, it is used as a last resort and should be done this way since webmasters can abuse keywords in meta tags for popularity gain. Other search engines have adapted similiar practices in weighing meta tags less and less since the potential for abuse is too great.

Idiot. WG made a more coherent post than I could make above so I'll leave him to it.

WG,

Thank you.

Tipsy,

As you can see my original post was correct ALL search engines use Metas.

I never mentioned how or why they use them but again, jumping to conclusions has made you look like you know squat.

Regards,

Lee

1. it would help, since all content = text is being spidered, indexed and analysed by seach engines (especially google) but it would be considered as spamming as long as you don't put in real content where it fits the context in a measurable density.

2. yeah, you can and should add meta tags to all pages, be sure to include the index, follow meta tag with your index page. however meta tags are not that important anymore like there were in the past.

Nothing like trying to cover your tracks. If you think I look stupid for pointing out you're a bit of a fuckwit fine In the context your post was made it remains 100% wrong. The first post very much indicated that it would be a page with more than just graphics on it - in fact it has a shit load of text on it. If it has text then metas mean nothing for Google and very little for any other SE with good traffic ie they are totally ignored for Google. If you have a 100% flash or graphical site it'll pick up a little on them but we never were talking about that. My head remains very much out of my ass and the same cannot be said for your own. Go back, read the first post, then tell me how your original post was in any way correct? The question was asked for the URL listed - what should they do about metas. Your statement that all SE's use them is then worng because for the site the question is asked about Google very much ignores them.

Whatever though like I really give a fuck. Still it passed a boring few mins

Something I wanted to add before bowing out of this thread. As with others - yes use metas on all pages. Some SE's give a little boost for them but then WG and others covered all that. The pointless pissing match was only ever about Google and my view was never that you shouldn't use them at all.

Tipsy,

Where does it mention Google specifically in this post?

Again, your talking crap.

Hey strange1, could you be a little more specific? I dont have a lot of experience with search engines so I'm not really sure exactly what you mean?

Thanks everyone for all the input! I know there are always a lot of varying opinions on this topic.
