I never held you responsible for the actions of your government. Americans equate a (verbal) attack on their government as an attack on their country in general or as a personal attack. Same goes for the army.

Lots of good came from it in some peoples eyes apparently. There was some feigned outrage from foreign leaders who are embarrassed to be publicly outed that they can't provide their head of state with a secure phone. This is then all followed with some feel good meetings of heads of state to continue to express feigned outrage to appease their voters. There will be some fake governmental policy reviews. There will likely be some new toothless laws which are most often worded in such a way that nothing really changes. There will be agency policy changes where the new policies will really just be the old policies as all laws pertaining to intelligence are filled with countless exceptions and caveats.

And... all the naive idiots of the world will get to say "see, things are different now" as their own government and foreign governments continue to monitor their phone calls, emails, text messages and other various digital communications... so they'll be happy and docile for another 5-10 years willfully ignoring the blatantly obvious truths of intelligence gathering and all allied governments cooperation in the very same things they claim to be outraged about.

We are in the middle of the second decade of common knowledge the USA and certain cooperating nations are monitoring all digital communications... but this won't slow any of the morons down from pretending to be outraged in 10 years when the subject comes up again.

Pretending to be upset at this or pretending anything is changed is a bit like giving the homeless junkie at the intersection $10.00. Its a feel good move that is quite literally the most selfish, self serving and obviously ineffectual gesture that allows them to get through the rest of the day patting themselves on the back saying 'see, i care' - as the junkie then takes that $10.00 to go OD on black tar heroin. That is the voting public.
