the biker that started it all (according to the video) has been arrested:

http://jalopnik.com/biker-at-start-o...ste-1433776499

"28-year-old Christopher Cruz can be seen in the video (and in the screenshot above) in a white t-shirt slowing down in the middle lane of the West Side Highway, right in front of the now-famous black Range Rover driven by 33-year-old Alexian Lien with his wife and two-year-old in the car. Cruz got hit by the Range Rover for this brake check and was later hospitalized and released for minor injuries, reports the New York Post

The police have since arrested Cruz and thrown the book at him, effectively marking him responsible for the half-hour chase that ended with Alexian Lien beaten and his car smashed. Police charged Cruz with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, endangering the welfare of a child, and menacing, reports the New York Post"

This is the guy ( Meises ) possibly paralyzed:

( I think Zimmerman would have shot this one too ...)

as for stopping, Vendz:

Police said Lien initially stopped after the accident, but several angry bikers began to bash his car with their helmets and slash his tires before he fled.

If they were beating his SUV, it doesn't show in the video and slashing the tires? That SUV was driving away pretty good after it drove over one of the bikers.

That driver is going to say anything his lawyer tells him to say

The assault on the 33-year-old man began around 1:30 p.m. Sunday on the West Side Highway after he got into an accident with one of the bikers around 125th Street. After the driver and motorcyclist pulled over, they were quickly surrounded by 20 to 30 bikers who began damaging the victim's Range Rover, police said.

The crux of the issue is this:

Was the SUV Driver being terrorized PRIOR to running anyone over?

Was he in legitimate fear for his families security and justified by hitting the gas in an attempt to flee to safety?

From the looks of the video I think this is a no brainer, he was surrounded by angry violent bikers on a mob mentality high...he had every right to try to escape.

As for the second incident where the lunatics smash his window, he really would have been justified to throw it in reverse and kill several of them before being dragged out and brutally beaten.

Yes it is fair because Tyson doesn't go around punching people for nothing.
You could have easily avoided the attack by facing the fact that you are a bitch next to him and then not talk shit when he told you to move the fuck out of his way.

Just move your bitch ass out the way.

if i were driving that suv none of this would have happened. he's responsible for his wife and kids, he should have and could have de-escalated the situation way before the video starts.

i can't think of how many times i've de-escalated a driving issue, on bikes and in cars. and that's without having a wife and kids in the car. he might not be getting charged with a crime, but he is certainly not going to win any defensive driver awards.

Survival instinct activated, adrenaline flowing, at which point the motorbikers are foolish to play chicken with a Range Rover

The biker stopped INTO the SUV - it was obviously 100 percent his fault - that fact is clear.

So you are saying that the driver should have been able to de-escalate the situation AFTER the collision? Yea right - you have dozens of angry guys in helmets banging on your car and screaming at you and you're supposed to somehow de-escalate it?

OK gotcha..but no...watch the video again - it's clear the SUV is staying in his lane and being very courteous and trying to slow down to let the mass of loud bikes surrounding him to pass.

The biker in white T shirt (who is in jail now) is taunting the SUV driver and talking shit, meanwhile the driver is slowing down even more, then the biker just brakes right into the SUV causing the collision. What ever happened that pissed this biker off is not seen on the video, but it's clear the SUV Driver was slowing and staying calm and trying to just let them all pass.

It's just too bad THAT biker isn't the one who is now paralyzed.

Apparently he de-escalated it by driving over a few bikes and over a biker. That's always the best thing to do! <sarcasm>

i've watched it several times. i think/assume that there was an altercation already in progress when the video starts, dude on the bike is aggressively riding next to the suv, i assume again that it's because the suv driver did not do what the pack wanted him to do, which was steer clear.

i've seen it many many times, from both bikeS and cars, that's how i know i could have de-escalated it all way before the video starts.

my goal when driving is to avoid altercations, events, issues, etc. i've seen shit like this coming from a mile away in my rearview and i move out of the way. if they want to be agressive and belligerent on the road, well, best thing for me and my fam is to let them. a chunk of concrete is not worth fighting over. it's your's, you're welcome.

Like HOG has ever put 1 million bikes together.

And your "best friend mechanic" is clueless if he honestly told you H-D has to be run at 25 MPH; even when the motors were cast iron that was not true; definitely not true after they went to aluminum.

VW's are air-cooled . . . do they have to run at 25MPH?

If you take in the FACT that the video was TAKEN by a member of the bike mob.... We see what HE chose to edit and put on YouTube.

It is clear that right at beginning of video there is a mob of bike going after and surrounding the SUV.

there are a few very rare scenarios where a h-d could overheat under 25mph. on my 107" build it did not like hot days, even with an oil cooler + syn
i got the red shut down light come on a few times when we'd be puttin in traffic.

harleys that do a lot of parades also can have heating issues under 25mph in heat, in fact, the parade fan was invented to help deal with that, which had alos installed on my 107

just saw they arrested two and looking for more. the video the news showed was very clear.

The driver, only identified as a 33-year-old Asian man by police, dialed 911 to report a group of motorcyclists “driving erratically” shortly before he struck one of the drivers, Detective Marc Nell of the New York Police Department (NYPD) told reporters on Monday.

Nell said that when the driver pulled over following the accident, which occurred Sunday at 1:30pm ET, the group of motorcyclists began to “interact with the Range Rover” causing the Asian man to drive into the pack of bikers out of fear for his safety.
It started before the guy in range rover hit the guys bike. He was on the phone with 911 shortly before that incident. Maybe the police will release the 911 call from him

Nope you heard right. One article stated that dirt-bikes, and quads were part of the rally.

yeah, i'm rly not getting the protecting my family part of this. he surrounded by erraticly ridden biker gang that is obviously agitated by him, so his answer is to jeopardize his family some more by getting on the cell phone while driving in that situation?

no wonder he hit the guy brake checking.

instead, he should have been doing everything within his control to extricate his family from the situation, but he's multi-tasking with a absolute need to report those guys right then and there, asap. pronto poste haste.

i'm not the best driver on the planet by far, but i would know how to keep this all from happening if i were the driver here.

sure i am. that's why i would never allow myself to put my family in that situation. you can't even begin to argue that it makes sense for him to get on the cell and call 911 expecting a response to resolve the immediate situation. that ain't happening. he's calling the cops in an offensive move, not defensive. calling the cops right then and there does not protect his family.

especially when all he would of had to do is move over to the right. that's what caused this, bike packs like that think and act like they own the 2 fast lanes and you/we are expected to get out of the way. if he were intent on protecting his family he would have simply changed lanes way before the video started.

but he missed his chance to keep his family out of trouble and instead got them further in it.

i'm not blaming him. shit escalates fast and peeps have to think on their feet. i get that. nevertheless, i'm confident i would have never put my family in the situation that guy put his family in.

Hes in a 90k truck im sure its equipped with bluetooth, for all we know his wife was on the phone with 911 while hes driving or is holding it while the phone is on speaker. Looks to me that he did it all right. I would have ran more of em over to be totally honest.

again, as i said- i am confident that i would have never put my family in that situation. i would have, and have, de-escalated road rage events many times. many of us have.

my last option is running over motorcyclists, i would rather live a life not having done that in a situation i could have avoided.

in a thread littered with comments about how people would very much enjoy running over motorcyclists, racist comments, etc. i find it odd you describe me as the sociopathic one when i would prefer to have de-escalated the situation long before the video starts as opposed to running over people.

harleys that do a lot of parades also can have heating issues under 25mph in heat, in fact, the parade fan was invented to help deal with that, which had alos installed on my 107

I think for sure the SUV guy deserved a few punches in the face because you can't just run over people even if they are in the wrong

It's like if a pedestrian stood in front of your car at a red light you can't just run him over once the light turns green.

So at the end of the day the SUV guy got what he deserved and the Ryders got what they deserved

And your "best friend mechanic" is clueless if he honestly told you H-D has to be run at 25 MPH; even when the motors were cast iron that was not true; definitely not true after they went to aluminum.

VW's are air-cooled . . . do they have to run at 25MPH?
I trust him even more after seeing the law suit over the Harley 110 motor overheating leaving people to believe that Harley may go water-cooled. The newer models, fly by wire actually cut off the rear cylinder to help from overheating.

Lloyd, the person without a clue is you!

I don't know the state laws in New York, I know they have a lot of differences.

But you have a legal responsibility to avoid an accident

When that guy slowed down like that, the SUV should have hit the brakes.

you mean like deliberately pulling in front of another vehicle and slamming on your brakes? These bikers were playing with that SUV, the video is pretty clear..
