Why are so many people in this business scared of competition?

Threads like this make me laugh.

http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showth...hreadid=111804

This market is not oversaturated. If you can't compete with the same people you call retarded on a regular basis it is you that needs to rethink their strategy.

Porn will never die. It doesn't matter how many people get in line to promote porn. The market will always grow as long as people are being born. A pervert is born every second. It's up to you to keep up with the times.

TGP's aren't killing the business. If you are scared of a couple million TGP's you have problems. Since they are all going broke like most of you say who fucking cares. From what you say they'll have their hosting cut off in no time at all.

Fucking whiny, bitching, pussies. Get the fuck over it and work on YOUR business. The same motherfuckers bitching about people just copying others instead of coming up with their own ideas (Labret) are probably doing something they copied. If you own a paysite were you the first one to have one or did you copy it like all the TGP owners.

This business is getting bigger and bigger. The sky will never fall. If you can't compete carry your to mainstream and promote something that isn't oversaturated. Oh wait, there's more potential money in porn than damn near every other business.

But shhhhhhhhhhhh. Don't tell the Newbs that!

How do you know what Labret is doing?

How do you know who he is?

How do you know what sites he runs and if they are his own ideas or not?

Labret could be the biggest poser on this board for all you know.

Hope you enjoy the case of the flu you caught while you were there.

BTW: Your brother was better, and my husband wants to talk to your sister again. Something about the crabs she gave him..?

Stocktrader23 is a keen market observer. Porn has done nothing but grow since it's print media inception. As long as men love to jerk off there will be a market for porn. The people who bitch about newbs are more than likely keenly aware that their success in the business can mainly attributed to the fact that they got in early with a lack of competition. They will suffer when more talented individuals get involved in "their" business and this of course is a sore spot. Happens in all businesses.

I'm fairly sure I have seen that he runs a paysite. He's constantly whining about newbs coming up with their own idea. I guess a paysite was his idea? Just because a TGP isn't a new idea doesn't mean it can't be approached differently and be unique.

Funny you mention that because the same ones that are bitching about too much free porn are usually the ones that say a paysite will never sell for that much etc. When I got online $10 to $20 was the norm. I'm sure the same discussions went on about charging $40 but amazingly a ton of programs do it.

So keep whining about profits, competition, etc. Someone that is more worried about running their business good will pass you up and kill your profits. Personally I love competition. Gives me something to shoot for.

If this were a local business I could see the point behind it but with hundreds of millions of people in the customer base with a product that people CAN'T get enough of there are no worries.

You may not know what I do but I'm no newb. I didn't say they were you're competition. I said you were bitching about others copying ideas.

<political correctness off>

Women, and their "equality" is directly responsible for the porn market.

The more "equal" they become, the more an average man would rather just jerk off, than try put in the workload required to A, get her in the mood, and B, "please" her.

Real men want to get it over with, and get to sleeping.

Reality is not these fake motherfuckers on MTV or these opposite-of-reality shows.

The good side being that all these "equal" women are now so busy being independent, that their daughters are growing up unsupervised, and are reverting back to their natural role as cumcatchers for future generations of men... and eventually, porn will be unnecessary again.

you just don't get it do you? there's only so much money in an industry and if there's more growth in the number of new businesses in an industry and it outpaces revenue growth, the result is less money per company. look at the changes over the past few years. tons of programs now offer free hosted galleries, they need more content or exclusive content and they still don't retain like they did in the past. it cuts down on profits no matter how you look at it. if you do come out with something new, within 3 months 20 people have copied your idea in one form or another.

there aren't really concrete numbers for the online adult industry. a few years ago research firms were expecting adult sales to slow from the growth of the late 90's. i believe the growth rate has been slowing down since the late 90's. since that time the number of people in this business has grown dramatically. now if you don't think that doesn't cut down on profits then you really shouldn't be discussing this issue because you don't have a clue.

No you just don't get it. While there may be a limit to how much an industry can substain porn is nowhere near hitting that limit. You can only sell so many cars a year but that doesn't stop car dealers from getting in the game. Instead of bitching about how many options the surfer has now you should be working on making your program better than others, getting more traffic, more exposure, and better retention. Talk to someone like Quiet about retention. I'm sure he does much better than 95% of the big paysites out there. They work on affiliates and could give a shit how long you stay. They have so many sites a surfer won't remember if they signed up from something from their company. If anything the BIG guys are the ones fucking the business with their endless assault of crap sites pushed by thousands of affiliates. If you get your piece of the pie and work your porn business like any other business you should never be scared of a newb coming along and cutting into your profits. If you are your site is probably worth shit anyway.

you think you understand competition but you don't. even if you're making money and everything is great, you're still not making what you should be making because of competition. there are very low barriers to entry in this business. do you know what a growth rate is? do you know the difference between a growth rate and aggregate sales? i don't think you do.

Of course. No business is making what they would with 0 competition but it's a price you pay to be in an industry as lucrative as this. Go sell golf clubs for the handicapped if you want in a business with no competition. But if you get rich someone else will be there to share the wealth.

For the love of god. Its not about competition. Quit viewing yourself as competition. You are not competition. Do you run a paysite? Do you produce your own content?

You dont sell porn, you give away porn. And right now its a big newbie fest seeing who can give away the most free porn in hopes that someone will eventually buy something.

The only competition you have is other newbs.

And thats what is hurting the bottom line. Dont give me the "if your content was good they will buy so you must suck" bullshit. You know why Quiet does so well? Because he doesnt have 10k newbies pushing his shit and flooding the market with his product. Remember when OX used to be worth a fuck (probably not)? It went to shit after they let all the newbs in and they proceed to crank out millions of galleries. Why the fuck is anyone gonna buy porn when you mongoloids are giving it away for nothing? Would you go to a bar that gave you free beer, or the one that made you pay for beer?

How long have you been doing this. A month? Two months? You have no perspective at all. All you know is your gallery made you some money this week so its all good. right?

There?s fierce competition in most businesses, its the excessive level of statements made from the rear passage that makes this one look worse.

Let me be clear. I don't own a TGP. I don't submit galleries. But I'm not worried about those that do.

Look at the comments people make about this business. Retarded. I guess you fear the newbs also?

Why? Because they are not your competition? Then what the hell is all this talk about competition?

Are newbs your competition or are they not your competition.

this busines is not all that lucrative. how much is bezos worth compared to the ceo of the top adult sites? lack of an ipo market for online adult companies is a major reason for the difference, but it just shows how this industry is not very lucrative at all.

every industry has to deal with competition, but to say people shouldn't complain about the insane amount of competition in online porn is just plain stupid. the percentage increase in new entrants is most likely outpacing the growth rate for the industry. i think this industry, especially english language adult sites is coming close to the maturity stage, may actually be in it now, and thats not very good for profits. i believe there are certain segments in this business that will have a higher growth rate and thats where the better margins will be, but as the profits start to roll in, more and more people will run after those profits and it will drop margins.

You make way too many assumptions. I've been in adult since you were living in your mammas house.

Way too much crap falls outta your mouth. I wonder if you are this cocky and hostile in person or if you're just a keyboard warrior.

I hope your intentions are not to school anyone on this board. You're wasting your time.

Didn't say they weren't my competition. Don't care what they do. If I wanted a piece of TGP I would take it.

you should be worried about those who do. lets compare 98/99 to the environment of today for tgp submitters. back then i could get listed almost everywhere with 10 pics with ok quality. i could get top listings for free on most of the large tgp's.

today, half the tgp's won't list you if you have 10 pics. you need better quality pics and 15 pics is pretty much standard now. a lot of tgp's get more galleries than they can list. top spots now are pretty much all paid spots and some tgp's only accept paid listings.

the only good thing to come out of competition is a big drop in bandwidth costs since 98/99.

My point is the people that have been in porn for x number of years have had plenty of time to expand. You have to evolve with the times. If someone got in porn 5 years ago and ran it like most aggressive mainstream businesses are run they would be making profit from every aspect of it. Even on the bottom of the scale....Someone that was making $5000 a month profit submitting their own galleries could have expanded more. Hire someone to work with you, submit twice as many etc. From the time TGP's started catching on to now how many galleries could one person that wanted a chunk of the market be submitting daily? Of course profits with TGP's went down but the big players should be making a smaller percentage on hundreds of times more exposure, overall making more profit. For some reason people in this business don't try to expand like mainstream businesses. Imagine if Sam Walton had been into porn.

The ones that understand this will be OK regardless of where the industry goes.

I just told you why it mattered. Fucking pay attention.

Newbs are program killers. Want to know the quickest way to turn a good program to shit? Let the newbs get ahold of it. Quicker than you know it you will be so over exposed and saturated that you wont be able to convert 1:10000. But as you been doing this for a month, you probably have no idea what I am even talking about.

Newbs arent running pay sites, newbs are giving away porn.

Topic: Why are so many people in this business scared of competition?

Tell me then. What competition are we all afraid of?

This isnt a competition issue as you initially tried to make it. Its a saturation issue caused by you and your buddies.

You assume because I've been on GFY for a short time I've been in the business for a month? Sorry, not true. If you could give a rats ass about competition then I wasn't referring to you. But as you can see from others posts people are. I said you bitched about the endless supply of people wanting to get into TGPs.

First you are wrong. May not have been in the business as long as you but it's in years not months. Also, if I did get in this business a month ago I would look at it the exact same way. Any business for that matter. The shit people bitch about here is hilarious. Then again most people fail at every business so this should be no different.

Why so you can flash your million dollar a year stats and show me up? I'll tell you now I don't make that much. Did porn in 2k1 part time and made money from day one. Lived on webmaster downline and my local businesses last year to spend time with my son. Turned everything back on in December and have done just fine since. I've sold every other business I ran to work this full time and I will make my millions soon enough. If that's how you win an arguement you win.

there's more money in mainstream from investors. you can be more aggressive when you have an excess of cash. competition is a major problem in this industry. it hurts margins. thats the key. sure they could reinvest profits to make more money, but margins would be dropping because the increase in competition is outpacing the industry growth rate.

the large increase in competition drops your ROI. especially when the industry is not growing fast enough to offset the increase in competition, and i believe thats the case.

I agree with FI.

I'm not worried about competition per se, but what concerns me is the number of people who are willing to work for peanuts. I won't work on any project that doesn't bring in anything less than 4k US per week for 40 hours per week of my time - that's only $100 per hour, not much really. There are all kinds of newbies out there that feel that $800 per week is great money. I wonder if the market will simply become more and more saturated until we are all making that kind of chump change.

The other thing that concerns me about newbie competition is that they are incredibly ignorant, to the point of being a hazard to themselves and all of us around them. In the last two days on GFY I have seen people who:

a) Wonder if they have to pay any income tax if they live in country A and their affiliate checks come from country B.

b) state that obscenity laws do not apply in any way to the internet, like they do to magazines and television, because when a person clicks on a link they are somehow acknowledging that it is okay for them to receive porn, and therefore it can't be obscene. (?)

These morons are going to hurt some of the rest of us with their recklessness and ignorance.

Mark my words, some group of 3 or 4 or 5 underage newbie webmasters is going bring down an entire medium-sized affiliate program one of these days. Or maybe a host. Or maybe an IPSP. Or maybe a content provider.

I don't think I have ever agreed with anything Labret has ever said until now - he is right when he says that newbies are fucking dangerous.
