A hundred and fiddy people looking for government handouts and entitlements.
Quote:
Why should I bust my fucking ass for 15 plus years working 12-18 hour days 7 days a week to be taxed like a mofo just to give some lazy asshole who makes poor life choices a bunch of freebies for doing next to nothing to actually EARN them in any way shape or form!?!?!? :disgust |
Quote:
And also...if it was such a great idea and would make the economy better...then why wouldn't companies already just hand a fucking UNSKILLED laborer $15 to do an entry level job? Don't you think that maybe, just maybe...that people who actually own those businesses might know a little better than politicians and GFY pundits? |

Unlike these people who want $15.00 for flipping a burger, I have actually busted my fucking ass over the years to get to the position in life I am at now and reap the rewards of my hard work. I put in a lot of long hours for years, and sacrificed, to achieve my goals. Why should I be happy about being taxed so that freeloaders get to enjoy a life of entitlements? I think not. If you want to achieve a certain comfortable standard of living, you WORK FOR IT. :2 cents: |
The government handouts have greatly contributed to this problem, but not in the way many of you would like to steer the narrative.
If businesses were punished, rather than rewarded for outsourcing US labor and manufacturing, they would require US workers to produce their products. US workers would then have more money to buy said products, and in the end life could be better for everyone. Instead, a false argument has become reality to many, and even though it doesn't make a stitch of sense, you blame the poor for being poor, rather than the true culprits. |

BFT3K you are all over the map now.
This is a discussion about people taking your order at the drive thru window at a fast food joint. Totally entry level, unskilled labor. If they work their way up the chain and become a manager...then yes they do make good money as they should. And the only reason that businesses outsource anything is because it is cheaper. And the reason it is cheaper is because of govt. interference in the market. And you proclaiming things to be "false arguments" does not make it so. It just means that it's your opinion and not based on YOU yourself owning a business that hires unskilled labor (mostly teens) to do entry level work. |

What he is really advocating is that blacks get the same job but be paid less for it because the government(which has no responsibility according to him) is responsible for bad schools that black people go to. :1orglaugh You want to see racism? Then do away with the minimum wage and watch white teens suffer no jobs because employers think Blacks and Hispanics will work for less. :2 cents: |

But no way in hell that McDonalds should pay the young person with their first job at the drive in window $15 an hour. That makes zero sense and takes away any need for people working there to even try to do a good job and get a promotion. |

Some friends and I were talking about this today. One of them has a son who went in the Air Force right out of high school and served for 5 years. He has not been out for about four years. He married this girl and they had a kid and now they live with her parents who are on disability and he works at Walmart making about $9 per hour. Over the last weekend my buddy and his wife were visiting him and his wife and the son was telling how he was happy that he had a job, but he wants to get a job making three times as much as he makes. My buddy was trying to explain to him how to do that (go to school and learn a trade or work your way up the company ladder) and he was just not interested. It was as if he felt since he wanted the job he should get it. The crazy thing is that for four years in the Air Force he was a fire fighter. He loved it and wanted to go into that field when he got out, but instead when he got out he hung out with friends, played video games, drank beer all day and ended up putting on 100lbs in the first year he was out so there was no way he could ever be a fire fighter. My buddy tried to tell him he could still do it if he lost the weight and committed him self to it, but he acted like doing that was just too much work. He wants it handed to him. |

This thread is painful to read. How funny people who don't run a business have all the insight on how businesses should structure their pay.

obviously the ones who have insight on how a business is structured is doing a bang up job. time to transfer their HQs to china, were they can live amongst their peoples. |

Everybody should be free to work for $1 a day; that way a lot of people will be hired and then companies can become very profitable by colluding to fix the wage at $1/day at every firm and therefore forcing everyone into this fantastic profit scheme. :thumbsup Serious question : If minimum wage doesn't matter then why does illegal immigrant working matter? The illegal works "under the table" for less then minimum wage and people complain that this is unfair. And what about society as a whole, minimum wage versus crime? As long as selling crack on the street corner makes 3 times more then flipping burgers there will be crack on the corner. When it gets down to 2 times as much people start weighing the risk more and go flip burgers. |
Money is a "chit" society gives you as compensation for your contribution to that society.
Those that can only contribute the flipping of a burger or mowing of a yard make a minimum contribution to that society and thus receive minimum compensation. It's pretty simple, don't be a minimum contributor. Elevate yourself. Elevate your contribution. Increasing your worth to the given society increases your compensation. To tell me I need to subsidize another's minimum effort is condoning that lack of effort. |

Value of societal contribution is subjective. Is an idiot that can play football more valuable than a research scientist? Does a Wall Street speculator deserve millions for gambling with your money, while sitting in an air conditioned office? You would have to pay me a ton of money to be outside all day picking oranges, but those workers get paid squat. Should a US company, making billions off of cheap labor, be allowed to tax shelter that money? Should a CEO be allowed to make a bazillion dollars while paying the lowest allowable wages to his or her workers, all the while gaming the system through bribery and shenanigans? |
Quote:
there are drug dealers because there is demand for drugs... imagine that on your street there is demand for 20 dime bag per hour.... then imagine there are 2 drug dealers on your street... so each sells 10 dime bags per hour, for a lets say $30/hr profit...with me so far? then one of them chooses to work at McDonalds for that $15/hr... so there will only be one drug dealer left on the street... How many dime bags per hour will the remaining drug dealer sell now? what will be his profit per hour? Hint: his profits will be 2x. (actually likely more than 2x, cause with less competition he will be able to charge higher prices for his goods) so the guy working at McDonalds will see that the other drug dealer is now scoring $60/hr and will quit because he could make 4x as much, no? so increasing minimum wage will not decrease drug dealing...:2 cents: |
^ fantastic detective work.. what studies did you base your findings off of?

A football player brings entertainment to millions with his efforts. A guy flipping burgers made one person less hungry. An athletes incredible work ethic and training got him into that position. A Wall Street broker worked hard and smart to be in the position to control millions. Those that worked equally hard and smartly give him the fruits if that labor to manage. Your orange picker while working hard has picked a profession where his efforts have never been rewarded. A profession where no training or education is or will be needed. For him to expect more is foolish. To continue your argument means you also don't get how the natural system of our society works. Good luck you will need it. |

The fact is that there is for the most part a free market of value vrs pay. The reason why 95% of people get paid more than minimum wage is that the value that they bring to an employer is worth more, and therefore employers will compete in order to have these workers. If you raise the minimum wage to levels where the value of the work done is not equal to the pay, then you basically trap more and more people at the bottom. People will not be able to jump up from their starting salaries, and there will be no "starter jobs" for young people to get experience working and move up. (Look at the unemployment among people under 25 in the EU) (This will of course make more and more people dependent on government, which fits right in with the plans of the people that will stay in power by having all these dependent people voting for them....) :2 cents: .:2 cents: . |

I've already explained my point of view, and why it is what it is. I am not a die hard republican or democrat but share values of both I am sure on some level. I am a business owner who is tired of being raped in taxes so that others get government hand outs for being lazy and making poor life/career choices. I have had to bust my fucking ass and sacrifice to get to where I am with little help considering I didn't have a family to fall back on to bail me out of any jams or poor decisions in life. If I fucked up beyond the point of no return, it was all on me. That said, through hard work, I have a decent nut to show for years of staying focused, success and failure. The point being, I have WORKED for what I wanted in a standard of life. If others do not want to work as hard, they should not be rewarded for being lazy. :2 cents: |

For example, a guy who can fix my car if it breaks down is more valuable to me than a guy flipping a burger at a fast food place. Most people can't fix their car, but most people cloud flip a burger. Hence, a mechanic makes a lot more money than person working at a fast food place. Like you, I would have to be paid nicely in order get out in the blazing sun and pick oranges, but it is a job just about anyone could do so it won't pay very well. If it became a situation where they had trouble finding workers they might raise the pay. Let m give you an example. When I was a kid I grew up in a small town that had several farms that grew strawberries. Many kids from age 13 up spent their summers picking strawberries to make money. Normally they paid between $1.00 and $1.25 per crate of berries. Towards the end of one summer many of the migrant workers moved on to something else and the two big farms were having trouble getting people out there to work. It got to the point where they might not get the harvest done. They ended up having to raise their price to $2.50 per crate and only then did they get enough workers to get it done. An athlete gets paid relative to what they contribute to the team and how well the team does. If you are a star player on an NFL team it is fair to say that you likely contribute heavily to that teams success. Many people will buy your jersey and memorabilia and many others will pay a premium price to come see play. Because of this you are likely worth the millions you are getting paid. Are there overpaid athletes? Sure. Every year you hear about guys signing big contracts and then not playing very well, but as a whole when you have a job that people are willing to pay hundreds of dollars to watch you do and TV stations are willing to pay billions for the rights to broadcast it, you are likely worth the high wage you are getting. |
Quote:
Almost every football player getting paid has completed a degree from a major University. Who the fuck are these basic high school educated fucks calling idiots? Oh wait, all the football players cheat on their exams right? That's your next bullshit. I seriously doubt that your IQ is as high as any offensive lineman that played at any major university. You have no clue. When someone thinks football players are dumber than the rest of the people that is only evidence of how fucking dumb that person is. . |
it was a job created for college kids and retards. its not a career.

Poor people have no clue what they are worth. They also tend to do very little to increase their value to employers.
The market determines your value... end of story. When you have skills, knowledge, a great attitude and you're willing to go above and beyond, your value goes up. If you are getting $7.00 an hour, its not because you bring $30.00 per hour of value to a business.. its because any chimpanzee can do your job. Until you educate yourself, out-work, out-learn and out-try everyone around you... you have little value. When i was 19 years old, I moved to Kodiak, Alaska. I got a job at a fishing related company (selling nets and supplies, repairing fishing gear (mostly bottom and midwater trawls) and so on). I busted my ass. I made little money... but when someone needed something, i ran. When someone asked me to carry something... i grabbed 4 when others grabbed 1. When someone needed help, i stayed late. I went above and beyond in everything. I started working on the fishing gear (which is kinda complex) and tried to learn everything I could. I tried to become knowledgeable in everything. I tried to become very good at repairs to complex midwater trawls. I learned everything i could. Everything. I never stopped trying to learn and understand. With that, doors started opening. With that, people started coming to me offering me jobs on very nice trawlers. Jobs that paid 10-20-30k per month. When i got great jobs, i stepped up my game. When we hadn't slept for 3 days, i was the only one smiling. When we hadn't ate for 12 hrs, I was out-working everyone around me. When someone needed to stay longer in the middle of the Bering Sea in February, i always volunteered. When anyone needed anything, i was there and trying twice as hard as anyone else. When we weren't fishing, I was busy working full time for huge net companies that modified/repaired bottom and midwater trawls for the biggests and most successful boats in the Bering Sea fleet. With that, every door possible was open to me. Everyone knew me. I knew everyone. Everyone knew I worked hard. I had job offers non stop. I worked many years making 150-250 k a year with no education at all. SO FUCK EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU WITH A BULLSHIT IDEA OF WHAT YOU ARE OWED. YOU ARE OWED NOTHING. YOUR VALUE IS NOT DETERMINED BY YOUR OWN SUBJECTIVE SENSE OF SELF ENTITLEMENT. YOUR VALUE IS EXACTLY THAT... WHAT YOU ARE WORTH. IF YOU ARE MAKING $8.00 AN HOUR... IT'S BECAUSE YOU ARE A FUCKING MORON WITH NO PLAN. IF YOU THINK GOVERNMENT IS GOING TO FIX THAT FOR YOU, I PRAY TO GOD YOU GET YOUR NUTS CRUSHED IN A VICE SO I DON'T HAVE TO SUPPORT YOU AND YOUR WORTHLESS FUCKING KIDS WHO WILL LIKELY END UP IN PRISON ANYWAY. That is all. Shut the fuck up and start bettering yourself. Be the best at everything you do, be the best person you can be... strive for excellence and doors will always open for you. Sit around and bitch and whine and doors will never open for you. Welcome to life. It's cruel. But its far more fair, than unfair. |
Funny how the lowest common denominator in society always feels the most entitled.

When I was a kid I used to walk to school eight days a week, 10 miles, uphill each way! When we didn't have food we ate rocks, and we liked it! My first job was shoveling hot molten lava back into an active volcano for ten cents a day! Don't tell me about minimum wages! You should pay me just for the privilege to work at all! I sell fucking chinese widgets now! I'm a fucking genius, and I look down upon the rest of you maggots! |

Doesn't affect me one way or the other unless its the tax consequences of paying for their prison time and welfare. I will never be the one bitching about why i am entitled to a 1.96/hr raise... because I made sure I would never be in that position. Doesn't surprise me either that the truth in what i've said taken from my own story was offensive you. God forbid people accept personal responsibility. |
