it's funny because of the blatant flip-flop from a few days ago where putin went on about how he wished snowden would make up his mind and move on out of russia.

I can't say for the whole Russia. There is a democracy (i.e. everybody has his/her own point of view). Me and all my relatives/friends don't like him and have never voted for him. However I know many people especially rednecks and religion maniacs in low-educated villages do support him. Their votes do count equivalent to ours (yes, we have a direct election system unlike the USA :2 cents:) so I have no clue about his overall support in the whole country, but I guess it's about 40..50% or so.

just a punk 07-01-2013 12:45 PM

As we say here, Moscow is not Russia and Russia is not Moscow. It's like to compare NYC or LA with the real one-storied America.

P.S. I've been to both and I know the difference :2 cents:

gotcha, i was curious as to the approval rating of putin.

all votes count the same here. i think you are thinking of the electoral college.

it's pretty crazy how he's kept himself in a power position throughout all the changes, perostroika up to now. any ideas to his net worth? he had to cash in when the union split up eh.

Nope. Gore got more votes than Bush Jr, but we all know who has become a president. Should I explain why that was possible or you know it already as I hope?

Once again there is no direct election system in the USA.

Rochard 07-01-2013 01:38 PM

Snowden didn't think this out too well. It's stunning that he thought he jet set around on someone else's dime without understanding that the US would kill his passport.

Not too bright.

of course i know that.

that's not what you implied earlier and that's what i was replying to.

everybody's vote here counts the same as everybody else's. that has nothing to do with the electoral college and how the election process works.

Like Scott said, you are not allowing for the Electoral College.

this implies that you think rednecks or religious maniacs vote is less than a non-redneck here, that's not the case.

campimp 07-01-2013 10:08 PM

the electoral college has worked pretty well, but not perfectly. I understand when it was developed it was a far better option that the alternative, which would have been to allow only members of Congress to vote.... but i think we are at a point where it is time for the U.S. to have a direct popular vote.

the two main political parties have been around for decades, so you would still have just 2 main candidates, its is super easy for the entire nation to hear every word a politician says on the campaign trail, and technology is where the votes can be easily tallied on a national level.

just my opinion, but i dont see any reason to risk having another instance where the popular vote and the actual results do not line up. i think its happened just three times ever, and before Bush it was in the late 1800's, but still that is 3 times too many, and the third one really cost the country imo

I see what you men but still. There are states with a very different states of education. E.g. NY vs Kansas. So if we will sum up all the voices directly (one voice per a citizen) for a whole country (not for states), we'll get a way different result.

E.g. Let's consider that 65% citizens of Kansas have voted for Bush Jr, it will be considered that the whole state has voted for him (i.e. 100%). But wait, where are those 35% that gave their voices to Gore? This is not fair.

Wow . . . just because they don't agree with your politics they are too uneducated to vote? Is this a typical Russian attitude?

You are said that the reason people in KS vote differently than those in NY is because of their education.

Not too bright.

He knew exactly what he was doing. He is even quoted as saying he knew the USA would revoke his passport immediately, and that he knew he was lucky to have even made it out of the country. He had to alert them of any international travel in advance and didn't do so.

I can't believe you guys still think this guy is some idiot blindly wondering around the world and lucking into offers from Ecuador, Russia, and Germany for asylum.

i can't believe you think this is all a master plan. besides, he doesn't have any offers for asylum from anywhere. reuters is reporting the exact opposite.

was that part of the plan too?

No plan, yet he has still evaded being arrested by the most powerful nation in the world who has FBI agents in Hong Kong yet they were unable to detain him even though that had the authority to do so. He then he violated Russia transit visa, yet he has yet to be arrested by anyone there either. All of this is quite an accomplishment for someone who's winging it. Beginners luck?

I forgot to add, none of us have ANY idea what his end game is and who's even playing the game.

The spy business is always smoke and mirrors. Whatever is put out in the media right now on either side is probably put there for a reason.

absolutely beginner's luck, he is a beginner. he's not a veteran, he was a snoop for 3 months. there are no classes on how to be a nsa leaker, besides, it's very clear to me he didn't even research previous nsa leaks.

moreiver, he is very lcuky due to animosity towards usa, hong kong, as you pointed out, prides itself on having a better system than china, based on that system, they decided the extradition request was invalid, not to mention this is an opp to snub usa.

russia, exactly the same.

You didn't get it again. I said that the education level of KS and NY is different. So the majority in these states will probably vote for different candidates. Your system turns the majority into 100% of votes and simple "forgets" about the minority which could have a serious %. This is why the indirect (you call "electoral college") voting system sucks a big time and does not represent the real situation.

A Plane Carrying The Bolivian President Was Rerouted Over Suspicions That Edward Snowden Was On Board

Kinda crazy to re-route the plane of the President of a nation. They must have had some strong feelings about him being on board.
