Meet Robomutt... The World's First Bionic Dog

A dog who had all four of his paws amputated when he was just a puppy is going walkies once again, thanks to a brand new set of bionic legs.
Naki'o (a Red Heeler cattle dog) is the world's first dog to be fitted with a complete set of four prosthetic paws, according to incrediblefeatures.com. Naki'o was barely 5 weeks old when he and his brothers and sisters were abandoned by a family fleeing their foreclosed home. Having barely survived the Nebraskan winter, all four of the dog's paws were deformed into rounded stumps after being stuck in an icy puddle. Noki'o suffered such severe frostbite that he was left with just stumps to move about on. His future was looking grim until veterinary surgeon Christie Tomlinson, who was looking for a playmate for her Golden Retriever, saw him at a Colorado rescue centre.

There's a dog in my neighborhood missing a leg, and I can see him coming a half mile away because of his hopping. He doesn't feel sorry for himself about his missing leg, because he's incapable of it. He just knows he needs to get somewhere so he hops.

This is what I love about dogs.

It is terrible what people do to animals. I just adopted a poor little dog that spent 8 years in a cage at a puppy mill. During that time her eye was dislodged and left hanging from her face. If I could find the puppy mill she came from I would personally go pull one of their eyes out.

Shes a very sweet dog even after being tortured by humans.

This is what I love about dogs.

a guy on my block has a dog missing one of his rear legs. H's such a happy little guy, despite losing a leg after being hit by a car.

I read that dogs only think in the moment, so they can't really contemplate things like "why is my leg missing?" or "why are my nuts gone."

A dog doesn't even know he ever had nuts in the first place. They get a lot of credit for being smart -- and supposedly an intelligent dog can be as smart as a human 2 year old -- but I don't think they're self aware. Part of what makes them so lovable.
