You fail to realize that 99% of the people who post on GFY don't pay any taxes.

The only outrageous thing about this entire scandal is the fact the IRS was actually doing it's job. The fact these orgs should not even be able to have tax exempt status being ignored is ludicrous.

The reason the Tea party is at focus is because they are publicly crying out loud when they got caught abusing the system. The truly absurd thing about it, the fact they shouldn't be able to claim tax exempt status in the first place, which is not being focused on, but rather allowing this to become a political football.

If you actually cared about this county you would care that both sides are abusing the system and that both should be stopped.
If I actually cared about the country... I cared enough when I was young er, to suit up in military garb and serve during a war. Now that I'm older I care enough to continue to build my business in the US, when I could just as easily move it to Mexico and take advantage of extremely reduced labor costs and pocket a whole new level of profit for my own enjoyment.

But If I really cared about my country I could come on to a BBS and rag on people and make ridiculous statements to them about why they are such shitty americans,

Strange times we are living in...so-called "Liberals" calling for MORE govt. intrusion into their lives, more govt. control of their lives, and more taxes.

You guys certainly aren't what I grew up as liberal being.
We were anti-war, pro-freedom, pro-drug legalization, pro-choice, anti-govt.

Watch some old youtube videos of young people in the 1960's and 1970's protesting against the govt.
Maybe it will inspire some of you neo-liberals to understand.

You mean just like you neo-conservatives protested against the debacle of the lies that took us into Iraq? How about the Iraq torture scandals? You guys were really up in arms about that.. I mean Hell Glen Beck even offered to be water boarded something he never followed through with of course..

How about Cheney selling out the VA hospitals and the fact they went to total disrepair after his good ole boy business buddies won the contract. You guys were really up in arms about that..

Hell what about the 100+ that were killed in the multiple embassy attacks under Bush admin and the whole "Al Qaeda intends to attack the US" warning..

I'm sorry Robbie, but the right just gets so upset about every little thing that I just can't really see the big deal about it any more.. I mean I remember how out spoken they were about all these issues under the Bush admin, it's kinda like Chicken Little yelling the sky is falling..

Of course for those that don't understand sarcasm, the Right never got upset or out raged about any of the things I listed.. Quite Ironic isn't it..

This is straight up against what the law says. They are clearly abusing the system.
The way social welfare is worded is that what they are doing is a benefit to the community, sometimes confronting the current administration is just that.

Number one, I'm not a conservative. I'm an actual liberal. There is nobody you know in your little world more socially liberal than I am.

As for protesting against the Iraq war. Yes, people DID protest against it.
Unfortunately, Democratic leaders like Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton all were saying that there were "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq and jumping on the defense contractor gravy train.

You sir, are very, very uninformed.

I think that peaceful protest of something the government is doing is engaging in the common good and the general welfare of the people of the community. Or are you against the freedom of speech thing in the constitution?

First sentence from your link

The Internal Revenue Service, under pressure after admitting it targeted anti-tax Tea Party groups for scrutiny in recent years

Not one word in that article about targeting liberal companies

Why are people still debating what the IRS did?

They ADMITTED it already...and some on GFY are still in denial?

For fuck's sake! The IRS admitted they did something illegal, the President has fired the head of the IRS over it, and Congress is investigating it.

What will you guys deny next? That the sky is blue?
You guys are unreal...

From what I saw on MSNBC and CNN over the last few days...the "tax free status" wasn't even what the IRS was really after.

What they did was send the financial info and lists of people contributing, etc. over to Propublica....which is a super liberal news media outlet. It gets funds from George Soros among other big time left leaning rich guys.

ProPublica themselves already came out a few days ago and admitted that to Congress (before any of you go into denial about that too). Propublica then used that confidential info to leak stuff out to the mainstream press that it felt was damaging to the Tea Party.
And it worked....just look at all the idiots on here parroting what they were told.

It is illegal as hell to have done that (our tax documents are supposed to be confidential).

Kind of makes you wonder now how during the last election so many Republicans tax records got "leaked" to the press...not talking about the ones that were made public by the candidate themselves.

This is some evil shit here by the Federal Govt. ...and quite frankly doesn't surprise me one bit because history has shown that our federal govt. will damn near do anything.

Where the Obama administration fucked up big time was when the DOJ went after the Associated Press phone records. Up until then, the news media pretty much gave him a free pass.
Not now.

Even MSNBC is talking about how he lied when he promised the "most transparent administration in history" and instead delivered the most UN-transparent one.

Saw yesterday morning on MSNBC that the Obama administration has now done more subpena's of reporters phones and other records than ALL prior administrations COMBINED.

How's that for "Hope And Change" and "transparency" in govt.?

MSNBC was also calling Obama the "Observer In Chief" because he seems to not have a clue about anything going on in his administration.

For MSNBC to actually report these things means that Obama REALLY pissed them off by going after reporters.
Big mistake on his part.

I predict he will do "damage control" by having reporters in for picture opportunities, special dinners, access to him and Michelle for interviews, etc.
That way he can get them back to NOT going after him in any way.

Just looking back at the OP's thread title: "The Bigger Issues With IRS and Tea Party"

He professed to know all about the "bigger issues" and turns out he didn't know anything at all about what's going on.
Typical...

Just because I had the wrong section of the law doesn't mean the point I was making was not valid. They ARE abusing the system and that should be the focus.

If the IRS did something systematically wrong then that should be changed and any one at fault should be punished. If it was a random agent or two then they should be fired.

However the point remains that these groups shouldn't really have the tax exempt status in the first place. They are abusing the system by walking between the rain drops if you will.

If it requires the law be more clear then that needs to be done. They should not be aloud tax exempt status because they are not supposed to have given the intent of the law.

This is like someone stealing a car then trying to sue the dealership because the alarm wont turn off. It's absurd at best..

.
The "system"? Really?

Dude, if I can pay one less dollar in taxes I will go out of my way to "abuse the system".

Our tax money mostly goes to defense contractors so we can kill more people world-wide. Fuck the govt. and fuck the IRS.

And you're right...the IRS did indeed do stuff that is totally illegal.

And now, the question is (just like was asked about Nixon)...what did the President know and when did he know it.

But listening to our Pres. say that he basically has no idea about much of anything going on in his administration EVER (or at least when it's "bad"), I don't think Pres. Obama has anything to worry about.
Pres. Obama: "I first heard the details about this on CNN"
Really? He couldn't have just asked his IRS chief when the story first broke?

Reality is...if a Democrat administration gets away with this, then so will a Republican one the next time.
We can't let any of them do this.
