Yea, a lot of companies in developement of that film were smaller Canadian film companies. Probably since the American ones wouldn't make a film like that, particularly the Big guys.

Quote:
From: IMDB

Production Companies

Alliance Atlantis Communications [ca]
Dog Eat Dog Films
Salter Street Films International
United Broadcasting Inc.
VIF Babelsberger Filmproduktion GmbH & Co. Zweite KG (VIF 2) [de]
Alliance Atlantis is the Canadian "Powerhouse" of movies. If it is an american movie and shown in Canada, 9/10 chance that alliance was the canadian distributor.

Dog Eat Dog Films. No idea, only made 6 films in Total since 1975

Salter Street Film International. Salter Street has made a few movies and has more experience @ TV shows, such as Lexx, For Better and For Worse (tv cartoon version), and This House has 22 Minutes.

VIF Babelsberger. German Company (It's only title).

From all the small guys making this, I think it was a very well done film. 2 of them I recognize as Canadian, Alliance Atlantis (Formed when Alliance and Atlantis joined around 5 years old) and Salter Street, which is a small Company that is growing nicely.
ZoiNk

United Broadcasting Inc. This is only the Companies 2nd title.

Being from Australia seeing some of the statistics during the movie pretty much shocked me, and that isnt all that easy.. I think it was a damn insightful movie into how the media has made the world a more violent place.

If I am not mistaken, I think Alliance is New Line Cinema's sister.

The movie was good.. but very slanted in their presentation of those "amazing stats"... they didn't weight any of the gun deaths...

There's a lot more deaths due to car accidents than there are gun deaths, I don't see everyone crying about others driving cars...

They were very creative about how they showed the "propaganda" at least!!

A week or so ago michael moore was on Oprah. It was basically a whole hour of "white people are scared, stupid people, and black people are unfairly treated and can do no wrong".

Oprah was trying so hard to kiss his ass I thought she was going to get on her knees and suck his cock.

Her audiance is basically a bunch of upper middle class white women who were being told they were scared stupid people that didn't know how to raise their kids. You could tell 80% of the audiance wasnt agreeing and were just pity clapping.

Was one of the most uncomfortable things I ever watched.

Haven't seen it yet.

I really cannot stand that guy.

From what little I've read, it seems to be just another 'blame everyone but the parents' preach-fest.

It took me a while to figure out that it wasn't "Blowing for Columbine." What a disappointment.

A different slant on the statistics was the best way to start putting things in perspective... and people rarely go mad and run down pedestrians in a fit of road-rage!

You have to admit that 11k deaths a year by shooting is a little above the world average though

No shit, I saw that show and didn't notice it. Numbers didn't shock me all that much, kinda expected it (I'm Dutch). But you have to keep in mind that though Japan only has like 90 deaths/year due to guns, and usa like thousands, it doesn't mean Japan is a safer place. Them ppl kill each other with bats and knives and what not.

But about the Americans being WAY to paranoid and scared shitless because of everything they see on tv, known fact to all of us, scared of terrorism, Saddam, North Korea, yeh sure, you're all gonna die. Whatever, this additude just makes me laugh. How many people you know directly died from terrorist attacks, yet you fear them so much. Well not my problem so I don't really care actually

People attack that movie like it was an gun control propaganda movie, and it wasn't. It just asked questions. It gave accurate stats, and asked why. That's it.

I thought it was among the best documentaries ever made.

i just finished reading Stupid White Men and Other Sorry Excuses For The State Of The Nation! by Michael Moore

here's a few excerpts from the book....

"We can't release the book as it is written. The political climate of the country has changed. We would like you to reconsider rewriting up to 50% of the book...removing the harsh references to Bush and toning down your dissent. And we'd like you to give us $100,000 to reprint the books we've printed". They suggested that I remove the chapter entitled "Dear George" and change the chapter title of "Kill Whitey" ("Mike, 'Whitey' is not the problem right now." "Whitey", I responded, "is ALWAYS the problem").

from the chapter, Dear George

On election night, as the vote swayed back and forth across the nation, you told the press that your brother had assured you Florida was yours. If a Bush said it was so, it was so.

But it ain't so. And when it dawned on you that the presidency had to be earned and won by a vote of the people - yes, the people! - you went berserk. You sent in hatchet man James Baker ('Fuck the Jews, they don't vote for us anyway" was his advice to Poppy in '92) to tell lies to the American people and stroke the nation's fears. When that didn't seem to work, you went to federal court and sued to stop the votes from being counted - because you knew how the vote would turn out. If you were truly sure you had the vote of the people, you wouldn't have minded all those votes being counted.

What startles me is how you turned to the big bad federal government for help. Your mantra during every campaign stop was the following: "My opponent trusts the federal government. I trust you, the people!"

Well, we soon learned the truth. You didn't trust the people at all. You went straight to the federal court to get your handout (trust the voting machines, not the people!). At first the judges in Florida didn't buy it - and for perhaps the first time in your life, someone told you no.

But as we've already seen, Daddy's friends on the U.S. Supreme Court were there to take care of everything.

In short, you've been a drunk, a thief, a possible felon, an unconvicted deserter, and a crybaby. You may call that statement cruel. I call it "tough love."

Yours,

Michael Moore
