Public rant about programs writing cheques

Why is it so hard for programs to write down the company name or program name or affiliate ID on their cheques?

Really it ridiculous how many times we get cheques with just a period on it. It's annoying and time consuming to find out what is from whom etc.

Please programs, when you write out your cheques just include a program name on them or at least an affiliate ID.

/ rant

I can see them not wanting to print it directly on the check but in that case just use one to a page checks and print it on the advice.

Dude just send me the cheque (endorsed on the back) and I'll make the "problem" go away

On a more serious note, it is annoying, but the fact that banks in my country want thirty fucking dollars to cash one makes me more angry!

It's amazing how it's still a problem after all these years.

It's basic human behavior. You have a problem. You're motivated to solve it. It affects you. It's not their problem, they have little motivation to solve it and it doesn't directly affect them.

This is primarily what separates the professional from the unprofessional in any business.

I'm sure FreeOne's bank knows what they do and isn't surprised by such a thing or discourage from accepting those checks.

It's the safe way to do things.

Some affiliate ID's are like "Fuckmaster11".
So they don't want that on the check.

Some program names are like "Fuck You Cash".
So they don't want that on the check.

And since 3rd parties most likely print the checks, the safe thing is to omit those items
from the data so the 3rd party doesn't print it anywhere.

You may not realize it, but some people can go to the bank with a check that
has "fuckmaster11" and deposit the check; but 3 days later they get
another check back in the mail with a letter stating "Your account has been close".

Yeah well, I'll be sure to mosey on over to FreeOne's bank so they can tell my bank
how to run their business. Yep, that will work.

You can then choose to promote programs called 'look at us we're too fucking stupid to have a pro sounding name as we have the mentality of 12 year olds' or not. To promote hundreds of 'normal' named programs, and have the same affiliate name on most of them, without an instant way to see who the check is from is a problem no-one should have in 2013.

This. ND used to write the account name on the check in the memo field and it used to cause me to get some second looks from the bank cashiers. Thankfully my account name wasn't something like "I_take_it_up_the_ass" but it was still adult.

Sometimes even the stubs are a problem. Long ago I made six figures with a certain AVS and they always put the name of your first site on the check stubs. Well when I bought my first new car I had to prove income and the way I had to do this was by showing check stubs. I ended up blacking out the name and the account number with black marker so it wouldn't look too suspicious. The name of that site wasn't that bad but I can imagine some people had far worse luck!

I can't think of a single check offhand that doesn't have the amount earned in the period, as well as the period, stated on the advice portion of the check anyway - none of that is also on the check, really, how hard is it to also have the program name on the advice portion? That's fucking basic stuff.

Or even a letter in the envelope with it stating who the program is and maybe a thank you for business and up and coming promos? Extra advertising!

It's the easy way to do things. Nothing to do with the above as there are many options to let the affiliate know what program it is from.

Ooops!

We do this but its for good reasons I'm sure

International Payment Services = DTI Cash. The info in inside our program when you log and create an invoice.

We are pushing 2000+ programs, really logging in to all of them to find out where a check is coming from is not making much sense.

We keep track of all company names though but the problems arise when companies change banks, billing companies, check writing services, merge, etc. So we can look for "International Payment Services" in our backend and if we received a check before DTI should come up.

Is that really any difference with having to cross reference by pulling out data from a file anyway? Just so much easier to have who it's from when you open the envelope

Here's an idea, drop a business card in with the check. The affiliate will not only know who it's from but also be able to reach their rep.

Not this!

No need to print ID or program name on the cheque itself. You receive A4 size paper and only 1/3d of it is a cheque. Print program ID on the rest 2/3ds which you do not bring to the bank. Its that simple.

People could also read the TOS and notice where they say "Checks will have ACME Web as the payer".

They could print that info on the pay stub also, like many have said; but I also remember the time
someone at the CCBill printing place put the check paper in the printer upside down.

Epoch has a mishap like that a few months ago, got a check on a regular piece of paper lol. They sent out a replacement right away but it was amusing none the less.

Also as far as Nats and Quickbooks goes it's easy peasy to have it set so the affiliate id shows up with the payment details on the stub. That said the issue is if an affiliate uses the same ID for every sponsor, or companies that own multiple programs use the same company checks to pay out for all programs.

And since 3rd parties most likely print the checks, the safe thing is to omit those items
from the data so the 3rd party doesn't print it anywhere.

You may not realize it, but some people can go to the bank with a check that
has "fuckmaster11" and deposit the check; but 3 days later they get
another check back in the mail with a letter stating "Your account has been close".
yes, but this does not have to be written on the check. it can be written on the other page that comes with the check in the envelope. This would not be seen by anyone besides the affiliate who opened the envelope. and yes, I understand the whole 3rd party thing, but still.

I think we can all agree that the stub or some paper in the mailing envelope should have the program name, affiliate ID, etc. And the check can say whatever.

Yeah, but the original complaint asked for it to be on the check.
So that is what I was focused on.

Really it ridiculous how many times we get cheques with just a period on it. It's annoying and time consuming to find out what is from whom etc.

Please programs, when you write out your cheques just include a program name on them or at least an affiliate ID.

/ rant

Cant tell you how many times we've actually gotten the opposite request.

The real question is why the hell are people still asking for checks in 2013?

^^^^ that

i dont get why they are still used, in most countries they dont exist anymore since ages. here they look at us like aliens when we deposit a check - but not because what's written on there...

but for some weird reason we have some people who insist to pay this way

Because some people like a paper trail, and most places issue checks with no fee, so why should I pay $2 to get a digital payment when a check is just as reliable, and free... You're a big affiliate getting many checks a week, sometimes it's easier to keep track with a check than digital payments, and that $2 fee sometimes adds up a lot.

Simple answer in the US: because not all sponsors (including loadedcash?) offer free or reasonable cost ACH deposits. Wires are fine for payments above $1000 but it's still added fee$ for nothing. And when you're in the U.S. you don't need or want a middleman like Paxum.

send the checks to epayservice, they can cash them for you. Make a spread sheet of the programs you use and build a list from there. One month of checking and it would be a lot easier

think about that

Problem is we have sooo many programs we promote that in a lot of cases we only make a few 100 a month with them so it's not worth paying high wire fees and all. So in a lot of cases best pick is the check option. Whenever they offer paxum though we move over of course as I think checks are indeed too last century
