Drones over the USA are coming, most likely in 2015 or 2016.

I've been following the development of the FAA's study into allowing drones (also called UAS) to operate in the USA's air traffic control system for the past few years.

Six zones were to be specified as UAS testing areas by the end of 2012, but that has been put on hold over concerns of anti-privacy issues. But once that is sorted out, the project will be back in operation. Commercial, civil, and military drones will be in operation in the USA's airspace pretty soon. Personally I've been waiting for commercial operations to be allowed because I'll be in business as soon as it gets the green light... but knowing that the FBI, DHS, state & municipal police agencies, and the US military forces will also be operating drones to "better protect the citizens" is quite a bit scary to me.

Very scary, because the FBI will be targeting you, right?

I was under the impression that drones have already been used by the FBI in the US multiple times. Not sure why it's an issue; We already have helicopters with cameras and god only knows what watching over us.

I can't stand people like you with your apathetic defeatist attitudes...

"They already monitor us with helicopters so why not also have them use drones too??"

"They already search us at airports so why not have a TSA agent pat you down in your driveway before you goto work?"

"They already have cameras at intersections, so why not let them put cameras in our living rooms too?"

You're pathetic...

Then fine, let them a fucking video camera in my fucking living room. What are they going to watch - me watching Big Bang Theory?

Why do some people live in such fear? What the fuck do you have to hide? It's comical already. Let the government ready my text message - hoot hoot - I'm going to party Friday night! Do you think the US government gives a flying fuck what my dinner plans are, or what I'm doing Friday night?

I have six firearms in my house, including three assault rifles, and STILL THE GOVERNMENT DOESN'T GIVE A FUCK WHAT I AM DOING FRIDAY NIGHT. OR ANY OTHER NIGHT.

If you think the local sheriff is tracking you using a helicopter you are either paranoid or just robbed a bank.

although i am sympathetic to your argument, actually there was a president that threw habeus corpus in the trash.

Quote:
On April 27, 1861, the writ of habeas corpus was suspended by President Abraham Lincoln in Maryland during the American Civil War. Lincoln did so in response to riots, local militia actions, and the threat that the border slave state of Maryland would secede from the Union, leaving the nation's capital, Washington, D.C., surrounded by hostile territory. Lincoln chose to suspend the writ over a proposal to bombard Baltimore, favored by his General-in-Chief Winfield Scott. Lincoln was also motivated by requests by generals to set up military courts to rein in "Copperheads," or Peace Democrats, and those in the Union who supported the Confederate cause. Congress was not yet in session to consider a suspension of the writs.

His action was challenged in court and overturned by the U.S. Circuit Court in Maryland (led by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Roger B. Taney) in Ex Parte Merryman. Lincoln ignored Taney's order.
as you can see, not only did lincoln detain prisoners without due process, he ignored a federal court that ordered him to re-instate it.

point being, war is always the excuse to suspend liberty. it happened with the patriot act, is happening with this issue.

& you push these ideals of liberty like they were better at some point in the past. Liberty has always been restricted, from the founding days, when slaves were 3/5 of a person, when indians walked the trail of tears, when women could not vote, when blacks could not sit in the front of a bus, or women could not get a safe & legal abortion. Today the lines are drawn with gay marriage, the rights of illegal immigrants, & how to deal with americans who work for al queda, indisputably an army at war with western civilization.

I wish they would put a fucking camera outside my house on the stop sign. Two or three times a year I pull out of my development only to nearly get hit by someone shithead who can't see a damn stop sign.

I'm forty-four years old and I'm still waiting for the cops to bust down my door and catch me... helping my kid with homework or doing the dishes or talking to a client about their dating site or maybe if the cops are really lucky banging my wife.

I'm not a fucking slave. I'm just pretty confident the local police department does not give one fucking shit about me. I'm not saying my life is dull - well, maybe I am - but I'm guessing the local cops have much bigger fish to fry.

You're not a slave yet, but you will be soon as the federal government continues to grow and intrude into your life... and people like you will love every minute of it...

You keep talking about yourself and your own life as if it's some sort of great example.

Maybe you don't care about things like privacy and liberty but there are many people who do.

That's just it. I'm forty-four fucking years old and I'm STILL waiting for the government to intrude in on my life. I've been hearing about this for the past thirty years and it still hasn't happened.

Privacy? It's not that I don't care... I just don't think anyone in the government at any level is interested in anything I do or listening or reading any of my communications. It's all pretty routine.

Liberty? Odd, I drove up to Lake Tahoe last weekend and I didn't run into any military checkpoints. Come to think of it, I didn't even see one highway patrol car.

Some of people just live in a constant state of fear. Meanwhile, they passed the PATRIOT Act while you were all sleeping and do you know how it affected my life... Not one fucking iota. Not one. The only time I come into contact with law enforcement or the government is when I pay my taxes (which we do online now) and at airport security (which is the same exact procedure it was thirty-seven years ago when I took my first flight). In the mean time, I got about my business from day to day, and no one bothers me. The Patriot Act passed, no one bothers me.

You fuckers are sheep living in fear.

sorry. habeas corpus was also suspended in WWII, & in that case, 2 americans were sent to jail outside a civilian system of justice:

Quote:
In 1942, eight German saboteurs, including two U.S. citizens, who had entered the United States were convicted by a secret military court set up by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In Ex parte Quirin (1942) the U.S. Supreme Court decided that the writ of habeas corpus did not apply, and that the military tribunal had jurisdiction to try the saboteurs, due to their status as unlawful combatants.
fact is, the war on terrorism is a wishy-washy term that gives the government a gaping loophole to use terror to suspend due process for americans. People who hate everything the government does, the tea baggers, gun nuts, ron paul dead enders, will rail against this. Libertarian leaning liberals will also have a hissy fit.

But the real irony of all is a black democrat president is residing over this matter. That is just the biggest LOL there is

yup, people don't study history for shit but why bother when partisan media outlets tell you everything you need to think?

currently, the right wingnuts are a perfect example of this. It's as if everything was perfect and peachy until 1/20/09 when Count Chocula was inagurated, and then everything went to hell.

Yesterday, as a task force of 125 officers, some riding Snowcats in the rugged terrain, continued their search, it was revealed that Dorner has become the first human target for remotely-controlled airborne drones on US soil.

A senior police source said: ?The thermal imaging cameras the drones use may be our only hope of finding him. On the ground, it?s like looking for a needle in a haystack

as long as we're armed the government is not stupid enough to make such a move. (duh, whole purpose of the second amendment). unfortunately it seems our fellow citizens are our biggest enemy, trying to disarm everyone. we're getting there
