The bus really couldn't turn around any other way so they continued to do it.

The old man went batshit crazy the other morning, and that's where it stands now.

From watching the Sheriff's press conference today, it looks like they believe it's going to be settled without further violence. The Sheriff said they are in constant communication. That the guy has electric heaters and electric blankets in the bunker and has allowed the Sheriff to give him coloring books and asthma medication for the kid.

So hopefully they will be able to calm him down enough to finally get this resolved without anything worse happening.
something is up. either he's crazy or he's hiding some govt secret.

And he was still allowed to have a gun.

People like him don't need gun for protection, they need need help and treatment to function. Personally I would not mind paying a higher tax to ensure people like him receive the help he need.

Due, I lived in the South a long time...you had to be REAL careful about trespassing on people's property. They can and will shoot you! Especially at night.

Having said that...yeah, he went off the freakin' deep end for sure. But there's no telling how many times he's had to run teenagers off his land over the years. I'm sure he didn't just wake up one morning and go crazy.
Probably more of a build up before going full retard.

Now that I think of it...I would probably be real careful about trespassing here in Vegas too. People just don't like other people on their property.

But a school bus full of little kids?
This guy must be a real hard ass to take it this far over a school bus turning around on his property.

Some people just don't know how to pick their battles I guess.

That is correct. People like him can apparently walk in to any store and buy guns & ammo as he wish. People even describe him as a lonely person who doesn't trust anyone including his government.
The trespasser was shot (bus driver), now he took innocent hostages (the kids), he is obviously not in contact with reality when pulling a stunt like that.
It said he served in Vietnam, the things he saw there probably wasn't pretty and have probably scared him.

It makes no sense to me why there is no mental check required before being able to buy or carry firearms, charing $50-$100 once a year to go to a 30 minute screening would generate extra revenues AND help removing direct access to firearms for the 0.5% of the population who is at high risk.

I'm wondering what kind of objections any pro-gun person would have to that ?

There is a big difference in someone protecting their property and holding a gun vs being some bat shit crazy fucker that patrols it everyday and has a bunker.

Hell when I was a teenager me and some friends were riding our dirt bikes out in some woods we had ridden in for quite some time. We came around a corner and there was a dude with his truck and a shot gun.

The guy was cool and collected and didn't act overly aggressive, he just explained that he had recently bought the property and didn't want people doing off roading there. Even though he had a gun we never really felt threatened by the dude because he was cool and collected and wasn't threatening us with the gun but just used it as a show of force.

Granted we didn't like the fact we couldn't ride there anymore but he got the point across with out being a total mental fuck head. There is a big difference in that vs some crazy mother fucker that patrols his property at night to the point even his neighbors have taken notice. Not to mention the whole bunker thing..

These are the types of people that "should never" have guns.. Yet under our current laws they can get them just as easy as a criminal. You simply can not say adding more guns into this kind of situation is really even slightly smart.

It's like the whole idea with nuclear weapons.. just because we have them, doesn't mean some cazy fuckers wont get there hands on them and use them against us. The deterent is only useful vs someone that is scared of retaliation.

This is why the whole bull shit line of if everyone has guns then criminals would be scared to rob or attack. That's false because it doesn't take into account people that don't care what happens to them.

crockett, It's not exactly "current law". It's the 2nd amendment.

I know what you're saying, but once we give the govt. the power to determine who is "crazy" and who isn't we are making a huge mistake.

That guy is an old redneck living out in the woods. There are millions of them across the country just like him. They will shoot your ass in a heartbeat if they catch you on their land.

That's just the way it is.

As for "bullshit" line...I will guarantee you that no "criminal" would ever steal from that guy. lol

This whole gun debate is looking more and more to me to be just another way to give the govt. more power over people. Has nothing to do with guns in my humble opinion.

The guns are just the vehicle to allow the govt. to decide who to brand as "crazy" and that opens the door to taking property (which the govt. does all the time with "eminent domain" bullshit) and people declaring their family members "crazy" so they can take their stuff.

Think about it for a minute...maybe you don't like people having guns. But I'd trust crazy old fucks like that (there are MILLIONS of them and this is ONE guy doing something stupid) with guns before I trust the U.S. govt any day of the week.

Don't forget what the U.S. Govt. has done over the years and is still doing today. Sneaky and HORRIBLE shit. Thousands of people killed worldwide...hell, they even did "experiments" on black people and STD's (and only recently apologized to the survivors)

No...I personally do not want to give our govt. ANY more power over people's lives.

Just enforce the laws already on the books.

Stop trying to "prevent" shit that can't be prevented. It's no different than the U.S. pre-emptively invading Iraq for imaginary "weapons of mass destruction".

Old coots in the backwoods are always cranky and trigger happy. Unless you want to turn this country into a police state, there's nothing that can be done about that.

One crotchety old guy goes off his rocker. It happens unfortunately.

But do you really want to trust those fucking thieves and murdereres in Washington D.C.?

That's why I say just revoke the 2nd Amendment. Problem solved. Govt. doesn't get to delve deeper into our lives and guns just become illegal or not according to law instead of the constitution.

The problem with this line of thinking is how do you find a reasonable solution, between some redneck out in the woods that owns an AK47 for home defense, that probably wont accidently shoot someone vs some guy in the middle of Boston living in a Apartment building whom also has a AK47 for "home defense"?

How did AK47's come into this conversation. lol

And it doesn't really matter what kind of gun it is.

The proper solution is to either revoke or revise the 2nd amendment. And nobody in the govt. really wants to do that. Not Obama, not the Senate, not the House. None of them.

Now if they WANTED to they damn sure would.

Notice that they passed an amendment to make income tax legal so they could give themselves our money. lol
No problem there!

But during the 1970's and 80's when the Equal Rights Amendment for women was being pushed...they suddenly just couldn't get enough votes to get it done could they?

But when they wanted to make an amendment that limited the terms for a President...well, they passed that one quick and easy.

See how that works? Whatever the Federal govt. WANTS to do, it does.

In this case, they don't really want to pass gun laws. They already know that any gun law they pass will be struck down as unconstitutional.

If they wanted to do anything about guns they would simply amend the constitution.

Nope, this is about something else. And the way the media is pushing the whole "crazy people" scenario for the govt., I have a feeling that this is all about giving the govt. new power over people.

Just my opinion.

Yeah, he could have easily done that with a knife. He's a Vietnam vet and I'm sure he could have done it in a lot of ways.

always love to read your take man. good stuff.

your right. theres no consensus from either party that amendment 2 should be revised or overturned. some of the dems would, but wont stick their neck out knowing at least 2/3 of congress wouldnt even consider it. no amount of newtowns is gonna make the right wing say "forget it, time to ban guns"

even if by some act of god they did, there would be so many randy weaver standoffs down south & west, the government would wind up killing thousands of gun owners who've concluded their gun protects their freedom.

maybe when we're dead & the kids of today grow fed up with free wheeling gun laws, they will get more regulated. but not in our lifetimes.

I bring up AK47 to show that it's ridiculous to use them for home defense, which is one of the major reason people "claim" they need them. The AK47 and other assault rifles are not home defense guns, they are hobbyist guns once they go into public hands and I have nothing against that, but they should be classified different from other guns and require a more involved background check.

Honestly it's likely harder to get your drivers license in FL for example than it is to get a gun in the same state.

It's kind of a pain to get a gun in Florida apparently: http://www.wikihow.com/Buy-a-Gun-in-Florida

In my opinion...as long as the 2nd amendment is there I should be able to buy a gun anytime, anywhere I want to.

I think the whole background check thing is kind of an invasion of privacy. It's sort of like the govt. is wanting to create a huge database on all of us (even more than they have now).

That's why I don't think the govt. really wants to ban guns or even have any kind of "gun control". I think they are using it as an excuse to get more information on people.

Doesn't sound like that big of a deal to us at this point (the govt. keeping files on everybody) because they have conditioned us to it over time in incremental steps. But when I was growing up, people would have been outraged over the thought of it.

Anyway, that's just my stupid thoughts on it: Congress could revoke the 2nd amendment tomorrow if they were serious and really concerned about "gun violence". But they're not. They know as well as we do that crazy people will find a way to do crazy shit.

I think they have their eyes on a bigger objective and the whole gun argument is the way to get what they want.

Think about it...they will pass some kind of nonsense "gun control" that will assuredly be overturned by The Supreme Court as unconstitutional.
But in that bill will be something (maybe the background check part or the ability for the govt. to decide who is "crazy" and take action) that will give the govt. new powers. And that part will be kept as law and as precedent to be used whenever the govt. wants to.

Maybe. A lot of people are very resilient in life. My wife's mother was shot to death right in front of her when she was just a child.

Lots of kids have seen a lot worse than this little boy witnessed. Most of them overcome it over time. Nature has a way of healing people.

The ones who grow up fucked up usually seem to be the rich kids with no adversity in their childhood at all.

If the bus driver and students had a gun the kidnapping could of been prevented.

He is very young and may have room to repair. It will certainly be a parenting challenge.

Hopefully, his parents have better instincts than the ones that have put their young child that just saw their bus driver shot dead and their friend kidnapped in front of a TV camera to rehash what happened.
