CCTV DVR Questions

Greetings all,

I'm in need of a new CCTV DVR system but the technology has changed so much since I last did this that I'm having some difficulty finding the answers I need.

I need at least 16 channels. Audio on each would be nice but not required. Full D1 recording and ability to burn to DVD.

I'd prefer a stand alone solution but would consider a PC based option if needed to get the features I'm seeking.

This will be used in a business for security as well as to give select customers a DVD copy of their experience in said business.

Lets say a customer spends 30 minutes in the business and is captured on multiple cameras. I'd like the ability to track that customer from camera to camera and spit out the full 30 minute video to DVD for them. I know the systems with DVD are capable of burning all video inputs but are they done in one large grid screen or can I select cam to cam as described above?

Any helpful suggestions are appreciated.

the DVR records everything, you can change cameras on the fly, it's all recorded.
Most have access via internet and there are several apps to be able to access it via mobile. This is a big plus if there is a reported problem, you can see it instantly. Quality of cameras is important, especially for night shots, having motion sensitive lighting is a must.

Can change cameras on the fly? As in at the time of the original recording or can I change them to out on review and choose which to send to the DVD?

Not a chance of going wireless and I already have a good idea of the cameras I will be using. They will all be higher resolution with motion & night vision.

As you are viewing them, you can change on the fly, but you want all of them recorded

Make sure you have cameras you can move. Set the recorder to record all the camera's, that big a hard drive it will be a while still they go over the old recordings. Here's what I would do, get the set up, I believe most are a standard hard drive, or look for one, then replace with a 2 tera bite hard drive.

I've just sold one because it wasn't supporting 64bit windows, and I will buy same next week that will work under 64bit Win7.It supports 16 video and 4 audio channels. There is software for remote access,internet access,backup options, motion triggered recording,and bunch of options. Price is around $90 on Chinese sites. Those are copies of Geovision GV 800 cards, and they work perfectly. It is up to to you what cameras you will connect and how much storage you will use. There is also option to access videos from mobile phone. Search for that model to see specifications. If I wanted to be cheap, I would buy a crappy package for a grand or two. I need high quality, hi-res equipment.

Again, I'm not looking for camera suggestions or solutions that include cameras as I will buy the specific cameras I want for the specific spots I want them in. I want a system that records all channels at once and allows me to choose which camera to output on DVD.

I appreciate you trying to help but you are providing me with info I don't need instead of focusing on what I do.

I'm fully aware that most, if not all multi-cam system allow you to select the camera at the time of recording. I'm not interested in babysitting the DVR when I have clients in my business. I want to be able to go back to the DVR, pull the cameras I want in the order I want them, and output that to DVD.

The system will have no less than 4tb of drive space. However, I'll gladly purchase the DVR with no drives and add my own.

It's the specific functions of the DVR I'm interested in.

Then I would build your own, use the software of a good company and dvr and upgrade with a bigger hard drive, that will fill all your needs

Axis makes great stuff. I own a couple of their IP Cameras. Call me old fashioned, I'm looking at analog systems.
