Original Batmobile just went for $4.2million - GoFuckYourself.com

LOS ANGELES - The original Batmobile from the 1960s television series 'Batman' has sold at auction for $4.2 million.

A spokeswoman for Barrett-Jackson Auction Co. says the winning bidder has not been disclosed following Saturday's auction.

The 19-foot-long black, bubble-topped car was used in the "Batman" TV show that starred Adam West as the Caped Crusader.

The car's owner -- famed auto customizer George Barris, of Los Angeles -- transformed a one-of-a-kind 1955 Lincoln Futura concept car into the sleek crime-fighting machine. On the show, it boasted lasers and a "Batphone" and could lay down smoke screens and oil slicks.

Barris' publicist says his client is pleased with the auction result.

Watched in amazement last night as the bids kept going past 2 million, then 3 and 4. The winning bidder flipped a coin to decide if he should bid one more time.

Not sure why they're not naming the buyer, local guy who went on TV afterwards and gave his name and where he lived.

He said, tongue in cheek I think, that he was going to put it in his living room.

Awesome.... I knew it was going up on the block and I knew it was worth some change, but that's a bit much!

Some of us used to watch this stuff daily and were amazed by the Batmobile!

There were 4 total cars. Ultimately 5. This is the A car. The first one that was built off of a Lincoln Futura concept car. The rest were made of fiberglass that came from molds of this one. Barris sold it decades ago for peanuts and was merely representing the actual seller here. The car is definitely worth a couple million but I think $4.2 was a bit much!

I remember when they made the blues bros. There were over 40 blues mobiles but I can't remember the exact number. They contracted with local bodyshops to come out for shooting to repair cars enough to get them out the door and driving again.
Bondo was generally applied with cement trowels and then the car was sprayed with paint and allowed to dry for a couple hours then back on the set.
I have to laugh when I see this movie still when there are several scenes when the blues mobile wrecks into another car and you can see a huge chunk of bondo come off in one piece.
