I'm blown away and saddened by yesterday's shooting. I want to donate anything I make today to the families, the school, whatever it takes to at least send them some cash. They will never recover fully... at least I wouldn't.

I'm not sure who to send to but I'm sure we can come up with something.

I just read that again. I'm starting a fund thread, send money to those families. It's not the money actually, it is the gesture. The cards, the sympathy... but the money is always needed. What do you think they will talk about at the next council meeting?

If you want to help them contact the biggest church in the town and send the money to them. Demand that they buy food made for these people and send it over. Or demand that the money be used to do things like their laundry or help substitute lost income from not working etc.

Basics get really hard to do when slammed with this sort of loss.

I think people saying money won't help are forgetting funeral costs for starters, I don't their situation or anything obviously. But it will probably help in some way or another.

Perhaps funeral costs, maybe flowers, a memorial or things like that.

The link I posted above is the legit link to help. I think the way I worded the op can be construed as self motivated. Its not. I really took this hard. I read news develop as my 10 year old just finished a schook project and was really excited about it. Iam by my work and she is at schook where I always trusted she was safe.

It's nice you felt moved enough to want to do something, best thing would have been to give to a childrens charity, local one even better, and given in the memory of those kids killed in Newtown.

Doing something in the shape of charity has always been a nice way of feeling good about yourself. Giving money, support in what way ever is never a thing that should be criticized but encouraged.

Feel free to continue with what you are doing and let us know if you have more things in mind to do for others. Take the haters not serious, they should only make you feel better. Every time someone talks bad they do this cause they wish they would be the one doing it or being able to do so...

I imagine there will be a lot of suits against the school district but that isn't money in your pocket the next day. A lot of people like to have funerals within 5 days.

That's not to say local businesses, churches, individuals and even funeral homes are not stepping in to lessen that burden.

School systems are slow to spend money and there has to be board meetings, etc. Even if there is money there to cover them I imagine it will be a reimbursement scheme.
