Doing something in the shape of charity has always been a nice way of feeling good about yourself. Giving money, support in what way ever is never a thing that should be criticized but encouraged.
Feel free to continue with what you are doing and let us know if you have more things in mind to do for others. Take the haters not serious, they should only make you feel better. Every time someone talks bad they do this cause they wish they would be the one doing it or being able to do so...
