Anyone else here actively avoiding Windows 8?

Call me a wuss but whenever Microsoft says they have the latest and greatest OS, I piss myself... So far, the only OS that I trust is Windows 7. I've been looking at a lot of nice laptop deals and many of them have Windows 8... Anybody here made the transition? Is it okay to enter the water?

I installed it on my media center PC recently. It's good for that, because one can control the metro style GUI using the normal remote control. And it boots very fast, in about 20s from a SSD and the machine has only a Pentium D.

I'll give it a go at some stage.
The only one I avoided was vista.
Still running xp on 1 old machine, 7 on the others.

I actually like it... I have it running on my laptop and I'm very happy with it (took me some time to get used to Metro though). I will probably upgrade my workstations as well in the next few days / weeks.

I did this...

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w.../download-shop
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w.../feature-packs
http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/

no problems and my penis instantly grew 2 inches, if the 2 inch rule holds true figure after the next upgrade I'll be at at full 5 inches

Lame shit...

I went from Win95 to Windows 2000 and skipped 98 as it was a peace of shit. Then skipped all others to XP. Skipped again to 7. Now I think I will be skipping until they come up with something better.

Windows 8 was made for TOUCH SCREEN...

Webmasters TASKS are not compatible with TOUCH SCREEN, you will do 500 times faster your work using a MOUSE...

Touch Screens are for people that dont work... People that have too much free time... or just for sponsor owners, that dont need to do anything else, besides responding emails or answering questions...

Been on Windows 8 for a week now. It's just fine -- this is nothing like Vista which should've been skipped. Grab Stardock's Start8 and it's even better.

This is coming from a huge Windows 7 fan.

I'm planning on getting the wife a Lenovo Yoga 13 for Xmas now... she'll love the touchscreen options and ease of use with Windows 8.

P.S. Performance increase on Windows 8 is very noticeable from 7. It's worth it. Get Start8 if you're a crybaby with the Windows Start menu.

i love it.. tons of little keyboard shortcuts that make it a lot faster than windows 7...
I never navigate using the metro tiles, when i'm using the mouse, I use the standard desktop.

You do realize that desktop mode is the same, right? With better performance. You are not forced into the "metro" UI.

I don't have a burning desire to get the newest OS every time it comes out. The amount of time I would normally invest into upgrading is nothing more than time lost. It's sort of like washing your car hours before it rains.

I only move up when I get a new computer. I just got Win 7 and I'm fine with that.

I'm pretty satisfied with Win7 but I'll probably try Win8 on the next computer that I build. I've been using this current machine for almost 3 years so it's about time to upgrade, even though this one is still blazing fast especially after upgrading the video card last month.

I put Windows 8 on an Asus EEE netbook this morning... runs great.

I'm now putting it on my Asus N56VZ with Stardock Start8. Peformance boost is well worth it. I'm a believer ;)

I've been running Windows 8 now for a few weeks on both our home computer, and also my business machine (triple display).

Windows 8 is nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe. The "Metro" interface is basically the Start Button now. And completely customizable.

If you click the Windows Key (on your keyboard) running Vista or Windows 7, you get the Start Menu. If you click the Windows Key on Win 8... you get the Start Menu (it's called Metro now). It's really not a bad OS and seems to run awfully smooth here.

Win8 has a nice native feature for handling multiple displays -- each monitor can have its own indepdent task bar.

Thus, whatever you have open on a given monitor is only in that monitor's task bar, which avoids you having to continually bounce between the primary display's taskbar to the monitor you want the app to appear. Also,m when you close out the program, it remembers what monitor that application was being used on (as does Windows 7). But in a multi-display environment, this works extremely efficiently with independent taskbars.

That independent taskbar feature alone has noticeably increased my productivity.

I installed it on two machines last night. I actually don't see what all the fuss is about in terms of people being afraid of it. It is actually quite slick and the ability to flip back and forth between the Metro UI and standard desktop is nice. In desktop mode it is almost exactly like Win7 but looks a little different and doesn't have a Start button. So I just installed a free Start button that acts just like the Win7 one from here: http://www.iobit.com/iobitstartmenu8.php

All in all I'd say it's a pretty good upgrade for the price. It even seems to run a little quicker and it freed up a bunch of space on my system drive.

Grab Start8 and it's exactly like Win7's start button if you really need that. I'm just enjoying the performance boost.

People think the metro UI is forced upon them, it's so not true. It's just a glorified start menu and has some benefits.

I've been using it for a couple of weeks. I actually got it for free at a Microsoft store by doing their Bing challenge.

I installed it on a secondary drive on my computer and dual booted it. To my surprise, I actually like it a lot. I don't use Metro much but I do like the live tiles.

I was one of the most vocal about how "fucking stupid" Windows 8 is but I'll admit that I was completely wrong. Windows 8 kicks ass.
