thanks guys here is a list of what i am looking to have done still...

- When a customer signs up we need to collect their company name, web site and icq/skype (this should be optional)
- The newsletter needs to be sent from [email protected] not [email protected]
- The newsletter should also not say regards Tyvra Jewelry instead it should say Train Wreck Content
- Full sized thumb samples need to be turned back on
- All the niches are not showing up in the top menu
- thumbs on the front page don?t always line up sometimes the top row will only display 2 sets and the 2nd row will display 3 and the 3rd row will display all 4 while the last row only shows 1 set
- when you are requesting a lost password it should train wreck content instead of Glam On The Green.
- Need to be able to delete sales and orders from the catalog
- Need to be able to view people carts before they check out and apply discounts if necessary
- When a producer adds a new product I need to know what producer has added the set and when a sale is made I need to know which producer the content belongs to
- When a sale is made for a producer the sale needs to show up in his account without the customers info just the content that was sold so they can track their sales but not have access to customer files
- Update the copy right to 2013
- When I select a model from the drop down menu and she has more than 1 page when you click on the 2nd page it doesn?t really take you to the 2nd page it takes you to a page that lists all the products the best example is select zoe and click on her 2nd page if you use the search feature it works fine just not when you use the drop down menu
- On the front page when you add more than 16 products you lose the oldest sets that were added for the month. Can we add a link at the bottom that says more? that is linkable to all the new sets that were added for that month
- Make sure the site is set up to all video format including mov, avi, wmv, mp4, mpg etc
- If we can get the thumbs in the gallery to show up more clear
- The email that the customer gets once he places an order

FWIW, if that's just one of the "few small projects", then that doesn't sound like a few small projects, but more trying to patch together some custom script.... while the fixes themselves are probably minor, it would likely take many man hours to figure out how to fix them.

But good look in your search

Most of these tasks don't require a programmer at all. Some changes in your script's admin settings and some changes to your scripts template pages. I couldn't see this taking more than a couple hours to someone familiar with the script you are using.

because most of the programmers are freelancers. they are capricious and lazy. programming in most cases, requires discipline, patience, and more time than planned. It is like to hire a non-professional workers to build the house. it sucks.

Because most developers suck and most non-technical folks suck at managing TECHNICAL projects. Hold out for the right developer/firm to do your project and have a clear plan in place so you can succeed.

planning should take longer than the actual "coding" but that never happens ...

If you hire a non-professional in any job you're going to get poor results, no ? The flip side to that is .... I don't want to work for a non-professional idiot either. Usually that's what you get here at GFY. Someone looking for :

THE CHEAPEST NON PROFESSIONAL THEY CAN FIND.

then come back here crying about it ............. bad mouthing "programmers"

>I asked a guy for some details about the job he wanted done. That was the deal breaker.
>I love it when non-professional clients tell me "how it works", since they already know why do they need me?
>"I got another guy that will do it for half that"
>Around here you usually end up with some smarty script that's been re-worked by the last 23 idiots that were fired or left. It's ugly, time consuming and usually not worth the money to spend time on it.

I don't want to jump to conclusions and don't want to offend you, but "give me a quote", smells like "I'll hire the cheapest one"... I might be wrong, but I think that's exactly why you are having trouble finding a decent programmer... 99% of the time you get what you pay for...

no offense at all. I dont mind paying for a good job done. It certainly doesnt have the be the cheapest. What i need is someone who will finish the work and get it done right.

What i am not willing to do at this point is pay upfront for the work. I have been burned too many times at this point.

Not bad, that's over $300,000 yearly on a 40-hour week.

For a LONG-term project, might as well hire someone full-time at a reasonable $150k, and still have room for benefits!

Indeed, but anybody knows you're not gonna have 40 hour weeks freelancing, so the hourly rate makes up for that.

Makes up for? Freelancing is usually way MORE than 40 hours per week ... so many people want so much done, there aren't enough hours in the "normal" day to do it all.

Depends on how you plan your day and if you work with any tom dick and harry who need work done.

I'm very picky on who I work with. I only do custom work, and very little bit of toying with other people's stuff.

And I also make sure my current clients get priority over anyone else and I don't over do the amount of clients I have so I don't burn myself out trying to work 20 hours a day on peoples stuff.

That's crazy talk! I'm hoarding money like a damn squirrel right now, just in case. I haven't even been consistently on GFY, there's been so much work. I used to turn down a bunch of what came my way, but not now. If there's work to be done, I'm willing to do it. I'm not the prissy little bitch I was back when money fell from the sky.

FWIW, if that's just one of the "few small projects", then that doesn't sound like a few small projects, but more trying to patch together some custom script.... while the fixes themselves are probably minor, it would likely take many man hours to figure out how to fix them.

But good look in your search
Might be cheaper/faster/easier to build similar system from ground up. I know it takes time and hassle for programmers to sort out someone's else scripts/bugs.

To each his own I guess... My current client base pays me very well, and leaves me with more than half my day to work on my own stuff.

Craziness. Money isn't growing on trees like a couple of years ago. If my own stuff wasn't paying me what clients are willing to pay (which is usually the case), I'd rather work on client projects.

I used to work 2-3 hours per day and forgo the extra money, but now I am even picking up pennies on the sidewalk. You just never know when things will dry up -- and it's the first time I've felt like that in decades of stable employment at very decent wages. I even sold my Viper, Porsche, BMW, boats, all kinds of toys, a year or two ago to stock up, hunker down, and work my ass off. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I just feel like "winter is coming," to borrow a phrase.

Understandable... I just got back from a 2 year hiatus from doing anything but wasting my free time on Reddit.

Working on a bunch of stuff that will hopefully make me good money, all while doing client work to pay the bills.

I'm okay with it, I live for the moment I guess.

I can appreciate that mentality. If you're investing time in projects, that's one thing -- sitting around with a mimosa in your hand and the TV remote in the other would be quite something else, right?

I may be unemployed as of yesterday. Told the day job to go fuck themselves. Will see if it sticks or not.

So, I might be looking for a whole lot more work coming up.

I have no survival instinct

No doubt, I'm at this contraption for roughly 16 hours a day, whether working on client stuff or my own.

Yeesh. My long-term (many year) contract with my main client expired a couple of months ago, so I know the feeling. Lots of scrambling around and looking anxiously at my savings, LOL.

The good news is that there's always mainstream if things get TOO rough .. getting jobs there is a breeze.

Lol. It is/was mainstream. I have been doing direct marketing databases and apps for close to 20 years.

Since it was just yesterday morning I am still going through the whole "I am so fucking stupid for quitting" then 2 minutes later "Fuck them" then a minute later "oh shit, what the fuck am I gonna do", etc, etc, etc thing.

But, I have quit a job before with nothing lined up and I have always landed on my feet plus I have a couple of clients that are pretty dependable money.

It's a fucking adventure, ya know?

An adventure it definitely is. There's LOTS of stuff out there in mainstream right now ... I'm getting e-mails left and right from people who have been referred to me by past clients.

I'm hoping..lol.

I am so used to working for a company (employee) for my main income. Trying to decide whether I should be job shopping, hanging out my shingle, or both.

Or maybe just developing out some of the domains I have been sitting on.

IMHO, work for a client trumps work for your self in the immediate timeframe. Projects aren't becoming profitable as quickly, and you need a steady income.
