Damn, I'm up late and having one of my insomnia nights tonight, thus heating up some warm milk...

..and now after reading this thread I'm dying for a handful of those thin mints.

Clearly I don't like or respect what they said. But it is what it is.

I do feel for the generations coming up though. Work hard, graduate from college with enormous debt only to not find a job. Or if they do, probably not one that is going to pay well.

So what's the solution?

Quote:

If the country is morphing to a nannie state then all I can say is I was lucky to be alive in the 60's and have an opportunity to build and grow a business. The changes today in society are not ones I would ever choose for anyone.
Well you're business started in the 60s so you had some great years.

Quote:

In a couple of hundred years, assuming there still is a human race I imagine that they will look at the US dynasty that existed for about 60 years and look to this period of time as about when it ended.
Nothing lasts forever!
In 100 years Americans will look back at their short term at the top of the pile and wonder what went wrong.

Quote:

My only comment on paying more tax is..you were right all the time. I will certainly pay more, but at the end of the day it won't make a bit of difference to my lifestyle.
The less tax = more jobs lie is so proven to be a lie, it's amazing so many peddle it. It has no logic and silly to the extreme. Still this is the argument.

If I get more in my pay packet, I will go out and spend more. So where do the extra jobs come from? Not jobs in the shops, serving more people rarely calls for a big increase in people serving. Yes it builds a few more malls and fast food outlets. It doesn't in the 21st century build more factories in the US. It turns the US into a Nation of shop keepers.

If I earn more, I will work harder. So someone earning $50k a year, won't work harder to earn earn an extra $50 if on that extra he pays 10% more tax. :upsidedow He will let his family get buy on $50k, rather than $90k. The opposite is true, people struggling to make ends meet, take on two jobs or work longer hours.

Still it brings up the question of people earning more. If a businessman can get his product made cheaper, he will go for it. By cutting staff, automating or simply shipping jobs to cheaper places in the world.

These two point are superbly illustrated here in the online porn business. Companies will go with the cheapest supplier no matter where he is, to maximise their profits and wage packet. Nothing wrong with that, but why assume it's different?

Is there a better way?

IMO yes. Maximise the profits of the private sector, without abusing the country or system. Then tax these big earners so they support the country around them.

Get rid of the Private Health near monopoly and copy the model that's successful in the rest of the civilised world.

No bright student from what ever back ground of income level should have to pay for an education in a subject that will advance the countries future. The sciences, engineering, type subjects. If they want to take college courses to become lawyers or doctors, for instance, on a grant. They have to repay that by working in the public sector for say 10 years.

Take some of the Government money and invest it in companies like http://www.teslamotors.com/ or Solar panels. Robbie said that he didn't have solar panels because of the cost. That's wrong. Subsidise the price of US manufactured solar panels that are fitted to US homes and feed the excess back into the National Grid. Las Vegas might become energy independent during the day with such a plan.

There are other areas that better investment will produce a better future for America. Still the truth will be that some will be left behind, not by choice. These people have to be cared for, because that's the way the World is going. Do they get looked after well, allowed to sit at home and do nothing and vegetate into a lower class? No they have to be employed and if business won't or can't employ them. Business has to pay for them to be employed. In jobs to make the country a better place.

I loaded the first case on the golfcart and cruised around the shop and passed out sealed sleaves of cookies. All we were missing was the ice cold milk.

I recommend adding a bell to the golf cart like on an ice cream truck. ;)

I don't come to GFY to get pissed off. There is enough of that to go around in life. And Paul, likes to go out of his way to piss people off. So it was time to take care of it.

During an ICQ chat last night it was said, "him and Tony should go into business selling nuts to blind squirrels." The "him" in this case was not Paul, but we could have easily added him to the equation. Either as a substitute or as a trinity.

It's not really picking on you. It's talking about your opinions. Making fun of, even.

You don't like people commenting on your opinions, don't share them. :winkwink:

I know many people don't like mine. I don't care. That's why they are my opinions. :-)

I feel that taking away food stamps from those that need it, shouldn't be posting how he helped distribute cookies.

To me it sounds hypocritical.

Sorry if you don't think so.

No Sly not sad. Just pointing out his contrary values. Still he got to feel good giving out all those cookies while driving around the factory in his gold cart. :thumbsup

Why did you have to flee England? Were they going to lock you up for your own protection?

Twenty one people on staff at two different business. Then my wife, myself, and my child.

We also provide health care for two of my cousins. One of the businesses is family owned, and one of the things we decided when the company was founded was that we would take care of two family members if possible. Their father - my brother in law - died when they were kids, and we provide them with healthcare and helped to put them through college.

As long as Americans have to deal with the Fed it won't matter what party is in place. You will be chasing debt forever. That is the plan.

Damn, I had to read that quote.

So, I will say to Mr.Markham

If's a GOLF cart..made by Yamaha. It's electric powered with a fiberglass body.
We have 4 of them.

It's quite simple. Employees do walk to their department and stay there for their shifts. I and the other managers are all over the place. The shop is 12 acres under roof. Walking from the offices to the shipping department takes at least 5 minutes. Do the math, it's quite simple. Managers are the highest overhead of any business. Having them and myself waste time walking this place is not cost effective.

My grandpa has worked building skyscrapers. So according to your logic I'm pretty much a licensed structural engineer. You might be fooling yourself into thinking you're anything but a sales rep, but you certainly aren't fooling any of us.

If I made Minte money I'd have a gold cart!! And I'd hire a hot chick to drive me around in as I threw snacks at my employees and shouted, "Eat it up, moochers, eat it up."

You really don't get it do you. It's not about you using them for business.

You thought one of the cuts could be food stamps. Stated that people used them to buy drugs. When I looked up the truth, it was 2% who were thought to do this. You wanted to cut the whole program.

Now you're on here boasting about riding around the factory on golf carts and giving out cookies to the staff. If you can't see the hypocrisy, that's your problem. I see it. Try thinking about it. The clue is in the bold part.

Did you see Romney increased taxes when he was Governor? What's your thought on that, as he could of done the same as President. And please don't insult everyone intelligence with his promises. We all know how long they last.

GAMEFINEST 11-08-2012 11:44 AM

fiscal cliff is coming.

Robbie 11-08-2012 11:56 AM

The "Fiscal Cliff" sounds so ominous...but in my opinion it would be the thing that needs to be done.

They named it that to scare people. But all it really means is that automatic spending cuts will happen across the board if Congress doesn't do the cutting itself.

So all the different crooks...er, I mean politicians in Washington are scrambling to save the funds that go to their pet projects.

The "Fiscal Cliff" doesn't mean anything except reduced spending. And that is a good thing.
And the Dems don't want it because it affects their social spending. And the Repubs don't want it because it affects military spending.

And the reality is that BOTH need to be cut.

I still can't get over 12 acres under roof. As a kid I used to cut our two acres and it took me 4 hours on the riding tractor. Multiply that by six and I can't even fathom it really.
