1. In football you run and rip someone to the ground and then do a happy dance. In soccer you run and slide and hit someone in the shin guard? And then help them up?

2. In football you use brute strength to throw a ball 85-yards for six points. In soccer you use your whole body strength to kick a ball 85 yards for a slight chance at one point.

3 In football when you score you run around and head-but each other and chest bump each other, because its awesome. In soccer when you score a point you high five each other and only head-but when your angry.

4. Football is the No.1 contact sport, soccer is No. 2.

5. More people watch football in America then soccer and that's, because we suck at soccer and are amazing at football.

1. A guy celebrates every 20 seconds for doing his job, you made a tackle, so what?
2. I'm pretty sure Quarterbacks are using much more than their arm to launch that ball, they work out their entire body to be able to do that.
3. Don't even know where to go with this one, players celebrate 1 tackle better than most touchdowns
4. True
5. And now we have the truth.... you guys aren't the best at something so won't welcome it. Could have just said this and left out every other point

:thumbsup

I play soccer and enjoy it, the diving is embarrassing though...when they bring out that stretcher and carry the guy only to have him playing again in 2 minutes

i've played and watch both. both are far more interesting once you understand the inner workings of the games. I say the same thing when explaining baseball to people. if you don't know whats going on that game is the worst to watch, if you actually do then its endlessly enjoyable.

both are pretty damn rough i should add, i've been banged around a soccer pitch just as hard and I was a running back in football so definitely seen both ends of it.

I agree with you almost 100%. I played baseball as a kid for years, watched it for years. I understand the inner workings of the game. But...once I started watching hockey, baseball was pretty much ruined for me. The pace is just so slow. Honestly, as far as baseball goes, it's much more enjoyable (and exciting) to watch my son's Little League games.

USA is different than others..Only in America Football is known as Soccer..So you are watching Football vs American Football...The best game in the world is football..

To me its a bunch of skinny guys running back and forth for hours and they fall as soon as some one bumps them. :1orglaugh

What if in soccer they got 7 points for one goal? In football there is what, say 2 to 4 touch downs in a game? In soccer there is around 2-4 or so goals scored, difference being they only get awarded 1 point/goal. Its pretty similar when it comes to actually goals or touchdowns in a game.

what soccer games are you watching where they high five each other? I don't know if I've ever seen that.. I'm pretty sure that is a north american thing. I'm also pretty sure nobody can throw a football 85 yards...

LOL! Classic. More and more people in the US are turning to Football tho these days and for good reason. When they get good at it, it'll be the number 1 sport in USA.

Actually the US is well known for dominating women's soccer in the 90s, making a star out of Mia Hamm, who I think won two World Cups, and Gold in Atlanta. We're still one of the top teams in the world today.

As for popularity, it's already one of the most popular participation sports in the US, at least for kids.

Most soccer players are build like women so it makes sense that the US women's team is dominating because we dont let women play football. That is for men in the US. Soccer in the US is for the guys who couldnt make the football team or parents would let them play because it is too rough and women.

Good one. I never understood why we call it football but thats what we call it and im not about to start a campaign to change it.

Love the NBA and its almost time for the season to begin. Amazing how popular basketball it getting globally. Huge in Spain now. And im HUGE in japan :1orglaugh

I'm from the UK so 'soccer' is in my blood, been chelsea for 30 years. I do like to watch NFL, it's a good sport, but I can't watch it due to the advertising, it totally ruins it, I don't know how it ever got so bad regardless of the amount of cash it brings in.

Mr. Romance 10-29-2012 10:10 PM

soccer is the real Futbal...Football should be called handball and the ball spends more time in hands that feet.:2 cents:

The major difference between NFL and soccer is in the viewing experience.

If NFL were British it would be comparable to rugby. The sport is not alien to our culture but the viewing experience is. I expect it's the same for soccer in America. Liberals in Seattle might get it, because they're looking for alternative cultures, but rednecks in Texas might take a bit more persuading.

The main issue I have with NFL, and American sports in general, is that they don't allow for creativity or genius. If Messi was American, what sport would he play?

Football is football and is the best sport...

American Football is RUGBY with protectors, its for coward suckers.. an american invent..

BTW , NFL is so fucking lame and boring, they play 10 seconds, stop 5 mins, play 20 seconds, and stop 4 mins.. who can like that kind of "sport".. its so fucking boring.

Okay so maybe a quarterback could do this with his hands. But the artistry doesn't matter in American sports.

He was amazing, and I think still better than Messi, despite the incredible numbers that Messi's putting up.

Real Football will never get that popular in the US because of the lack of Commercial, US sports were created around commercials.

Football for me, and I mean real Football :)

Call it Soccer all you want, when there is not an "S" in the world governing body FIFA, it should probably tell you something. It's not called FISA for a reason :winkwink:.

Anyway, I think the NFL/CFL is pretty good, I prefer Rugby Union anyday over the NFL though and the CFL is obviously the underdog of the NFL.

I prefer watching highlights of both the NFL/CFL than watching an entire game. I think the only time I managed to watch a whole NFL game was a Patriots game a couple years ago when I was in Boston.

Highlights of the NFL and CFL show all that is good about the game, but all the stopping and starting gets on my nerves!

Other sports, since people seem to be adding them in :)

NBA I only like to watch when it means something (The Playoffs).
Same for NHL unless it is one of the big rivalries like Chicago / Vancouver for example I'll watch. Or Philly / Boston etc.

I hate the time out bs and all the adverts, drives me nuts.

Actually, I played Linebacker and Running back. However, as I got older everyone got bigger but me so i quit football because I was too small (only 135 - 140) and I stuck with wrestling (who doesnt like rolling around with another man all sweaty in spandex!?!?). This is one of the reasons why I like football because not everyone can be 6+ feet tall and 200+lbs vs soccer anyone can play. Soccer really has no physical limit...just comes down to skill.

To each his own.....i guess.

CDSmith 10-30-2012 08:09 AM

Having this new PVR has made all the difference for me in terms of watching NFL games. I now just zip past all the commercials with one click, and can even fast forward from play to play if the commentators are getting too yappy (which they often do).

I watch the odd soccer game but regularly catch the highlights of a lot of matches. When it's world cup time I never miss a match. Like others have said I too have played both, and love to watch both. So yes it is possible for a N American to be a fan of both.

Great point Bryan.. no pun intended.

I've always thought about this too.. a big complaint against soccer is the low scoring. But like you said there's few actual scoring moments in football.. same with hockey and baseball, many games in both sports end with 2-3 score lines.

As for basketball, well.. let's expand the court size to 100 yards and then we'll see if we still have 100 point games.

People who like sports for the scoring are the kind of people whose amps go up to 11.

that shit is just too funny;

People have been predicting the breakthrough of soccer in the US for decades. And after the success of the women's team and hosting a World Cup, where are we? Still hiring past their best mercenaries like David Beckham, a failed idea over 30 years ago, when we brought over Pele, Carlos Alberto, et al.

Outside of girls and kids, soccer is really nowhere, and American (male) players are in general vastly inferior to Europeans and South Americans. And you better hope that continues, because that graphic you posted shows exactly what will happen to soccer if it ever did gain any real traction in the US.
