Romney would have a better chance if these dumbass religious republicans would stop trying to capture some spotlight with their stupid comments about rape, and babies, and God, etc.. WTF is going on in the Republican party? They should get rid of these idiots. You know who they are, there are just so many of them anymore, it's insane.

Maybe, but I like to think that among Christians in the United States, those with views like these fringe Republicans are a minority. They don't represent the Christian majority view.

Say thanks to Paul Weyrich, he was the guy that got the ball running with politicizing the Religious Right through the evangelicals. He pretty much started that whole movement and made it a political force. He was actually the guy that coined the term "Moral Majority".

It was later Karl Rove that set that tone about with the RR as they have become more of a hate movement IMO in which the Religious Reich (as I like to call them) has become.

The funny thing is even Weyrich thought the Religious Reich had lost it's way when they supported things like the Iraq invasion and the trashing of the environment via the Bush admin. In fact he felt it was going to be the undoing of their political movement and render them less effective in time.

Kind of an interesting article on the subject from back in 2008 from a Religious news site, none the less.

A nice quote from that article is

Living in the bible belt I can tell you from experience that there are A LOT of weird people within the religious realm. I could go on and on about these fruitcakes but let me give you just one example. One of the most popular churches around here the preacher is a convicted murderer. He didn't kill his wife out of jealousy or none of those somewhat acceptable murders. He cold blooded murdered a dude. He's like a god around here. I even found my girlfriend DVR'ing this conartist and I asked her if she knew what he did, she had no idea.

Is it the move toward the far right or far left? What's so wrong with moderates? It sounds like a nice compromise to me.

You can bet the marketing men have been all over this with a fine tooth and they realise there are more votes in pandering to the religious right than ignoring them. Yes there are some crack pots in the right, but look closely at the men standing for President and his VP and the views.

Well if you look back at the political movement of the Right Wing in the last 20 years, they eased into a more hate based Religious Reich in the Bush years with Karl Rove really pushing that movement but as Bush exited the scene the Religious Right was already losing it's grip because I think the average American was finally starting too see they were going to the extremes.

When it became a contest for the post Bush era, it was almost as if the Religious Right exited the stage with the Tea Party (even more focused on hate) taking the center stage with almost the blink of an eye. Don't even think for a second that the Tea Party was some free form movement that took place in the grass roots like say Occupy Wall street did.

The Tea Party was very much IMO a organized coup of the right-wing activism groups, IMO it's just a re-badged updated version of the Religious Right. I think they just manged to effectively tone down the "God" in front of everything and try to refocus the "appearance" of a bull shit inspired small govt "front", while still catering to the mentality of the Religious Reich.

This move to the Tea Party allows to to be more hateful and threatening as you see all the racism with-in that movement, that they couldn't have gone mainstream with under Religious Right name tag. IMO the Religious Right = Tea Party.. They are of the same source so I think as long as the Right Wing can focus that kind of continual hate movement they will still have a strong backing, it will just have a new name in 4 or 8 years once everyone gets sick of the tea party. Just in time for election season.

Alternatively, mysticism transcends all religions and is the basis for personal transformation that fundamentally shifts one's world view. Mysticism dating back to the shaman's drug induced visions, is the real thing.

The dogma is just mankind's cultural overlay trying to make sense of the mysticism and give some rules for moral behavior.
