We provide him with secret service protection. We provide him with top secret intelligence briefings. I have never heard that presidential candidates are given top secret anything.

If he wins the election and becomes the next President...then yes they pull back the curtain while the transition is in place. But he's not privvy to any top secret info as a candidate.

The rest of what you said seems true enough. But why the U.S. taxpayer has to pay for him to have security while campaigning (for Romney OR the president) is beyond me. They should be paying for those Secret Service guys & their travel and expenses out of those hundreds of millions of dollars in their campaign funds.

Did you think that in an election where the challenger wins, they suddenly on day one show him hundreds of reports about everything he needs to know after not showing him anything for months? If they did that, the challenger would be paralyzed by a lack of information for the first six months of his Presidency every four years. Serious candidates get secret service protection and intelligence briefings in advance of the election. It allows them to not look like ignorant asshats in the debates, and it allows them to transition into leadership if they actually win the election.

That makes them representative of our nation, especially when they meet with foreign leaders (who would never take a meeting with them unless they were already being sanctioned by our nation). Countries don't meet with Romney because they like him or dislike him, they meet with him because he is a Candidate for President. They (and we) expect him to act like one as well.

I lived nearly five years in Kailua when I was a teen. I don't blame Barry for wanting to kick it there when his days as Commander in Chief are over. It truly is a paradise.
