But they didn't build it on their own.

I'm not sure if it is the building, a small business, or the airport itself... Everyone involved had a parent, and every one of them went to school at some point in their lives - paid for the by tax dollars of others. Every one of them involved worked their way up the ladder and were taught by others at every step.

I would guess that most business owners were educated in private and parochial schools. The government directed public school system is one of Americas biggest failures.

Actually our public school system was one of the greatest in the world but it kept being the first thing cut when taxes are lowered. So now it sucks.

Property taxes are the primary source...if not the only source of...funding for our public schools and property taxes are seldom...if ever...lowered.

Tony...I could swear that my local property taxes are what are the main funding for local schools. Not federal funding. Am I wrong on that?

I still have a child in school. And we have to pay for almost everything she does out of pocket. Not like when I was a kid in school. They make us pay for every supply she uses, then make us pay to come see her do her recitals and band performances! They didn't do that when I was a kid.

Yet according to that chart, we are pumping double the amount of money per child into the school system now than when I was in school (in the 70's)

My thought is that there is a lot of waste and money going to bureaucrats instead of to teachers and classroom necessities

The money is definitely going in. But what happens after that is where the problem lies.

Property taxes are used for more than just education and schools, and when local govts are looking for money education is the easiest to take from because they have the weakest voice, try laying off a couple of cops and watch how the police unions go nuts.

When? 50 years ago? My mate moved to USA 15 years ago, when he showed his math course to my teacher she said - come back or else you will return retarder. In his 10th grade he was learning stuff he learned back home when he was in 6th grade lol. And all the way till he finished school there - in the last 12th grade he learned stuff he learned in his 9th grade back home. My and his teacher from back home could not believe that. USA school course is like course for slightly slow people.

Considering that Congress is split, I think things are as good as can be expected.

People forget how bad things were when Obama took over. I can only imagine what a disaster it would have been had McCain-Palin taken the White House in 2008 instead.

Personally, I would like to see Obama and the Democratic party rallying their supporters more to get out the vote in the important Senate and House races in November, because if they can win both chambers of Congress, while keeping the Presidency, I believe we will start seeing things move in a better, more productive, manner.

Remember that Obama was able to get quite a bit of legislation passed when the Demo's had a majority in both the House and Senate, during the first few years of his Presidency.

It's going to be a tough four years either way, therefore I would rather stay with a person with compassion and whom puts people before profits, rather than a passionless capitalist that would screw the middle-class before he would ever consider restoring taxes on the rich to the levels that they were at when Bush Jr was President.

Overall I would say that the system is broke, and is in need of major overhaul, however since neither of the two major political parties is doing much of anything to improve the system, we can pretty much expect more of the same.

Whatever happens at the polls on November 6th, I expect to be back slinging porn on November 7th regardless.

I remember middle school. I had one teacher I saw every day, and of course one principal I ended up visiting weekly. Now my kid, same school 20 years later, has something like 19 teachers, assistants, councilors, therapists, lawyers, security guards, mind readers, lunch clowns, manicurists, ect my kid deals with daily for any fucking retarded reason they can come up with.

And every fucking year property taxes must go up or they are removing teachers. Never cutting the 40 "speech therapists" that pull in 100k/year and money for shit like a 1 million dollar non fucking functional water wheel statue like they just planted in a local park is never EVER threatened. Same park just got completely redone with new everything (that was all new 7 years ago) including water rides this year.. many many millions for that, and in a few months, property taxes must go up again, or firemen or police are getting axed this time. Shit's starting to piss me off.

I know that people who still support Obama are trying to make excuses and claim he did a lot. But it seems to me that if you need apologists to try and explain that you actually did something...then you probably didn't.

This country needs jobs and a secure energy policy. And those two would go hand in hand right now.

It looks like Obama though was too scared to piss off his liberal base to make that decisive move. Matter of fact, he has appeared to me to lack any kind of leadership move that would piss off his base.

Say what you will about Bush...but he not only did what he wanted, he also passed and funded every liberal bill that got in front of him (the prescription drug bill is a HUGE liberal "non-Republican" kind of thing to do)

Obama on the other hand, shut the Republicans out immediately when he took office. They had no say at all in health care legislation...or anything else. They weren't even allowed at the table.
That was a logistical mistake on the part of Pelosi and Reid. And it's cost Obama ever since in my opinion.

What I'm saying is that when they went in to write the bill, the Republicans had zero input and were not allowed in the process.

That was a huge political mistake on the part of Pelosi and Reid. And Obama did not take the leadership of the situation (like Clinton did, Reagan did, like even Bush did).

I kept hoping that he was going to step up and do SOMETHING during 2009 on the issue. But he never did.

My personal belief is that IF the govt. was going to step in, it should have stepped in all the way.
But that would have effectively put the insurance companies out of business.

And you know they contribute a LOT to politicians election campaigns.
