I was actually able to run each one of them down individually and beat the shit out of them. Knocked their teeth out, broke their jaws, etc., etc.

Then I called the cops and the police came over and went from unconscious body to unconscious body and shot them all execution style.

That's a 100K+ medical bill right there. Double that if there's any complications.
If someone did that to my kid I would have sued you for everything you could potentially own then take what you had and wrote the rest off as a chargeoff, instant tax debt for the rest of your life (bad debt writeoffs is a tax writeoff for me, so you get taxed on that)

If this was a real story I would be kissing some serious ass for that kid and his parents

I think it's wrong what both sides did. It could potentially have turned out a LOT worse if he had done nothing and just asked them politely to go away. That doesn't change the liability in a civil suit a lot, especially not if some kind of plea deal got worked out if he got charged for it.
If you had a dog as example your home owners insurance would cover whatever the dog did if it ran away from you when you opening the door.
