Trying to understand why anyone would "retire" from this business.

I do what I want, when I want (well actually when my wife lets me)
I do not have to leave the house to make money
I have unlimited vacation time

So even with a billion in the bank I would do the same thing basically, "retirement" from internet porn is a stupid concept, unless one has plans to do something else.

As soon as I filed for Soc Security at 62 I put my storefront retail store I had for over 30 years up for sale. That was in 2000, I'm 75 not and glad I retired. Had a Million $ a year store (party store) and the guy I sold it to lasted exactly 1 year from July 1, 2000 to July 1, 2001 and he locked the doors and went bankrupt. He only did $180,000 in sales, down over 80% of what I was doing. He just did not know how to operate a party store ... there is a method you have to use to make it work and he just didn't get it at all.

Now I do over $1,000,000 a year in buying/selling on the internet with an internet storefront that works.

Wished I'd have retired 10 years earlier.

Piece to all

That's more or less my goal, except I'm willing to accept age 45. That gives me 10 years to get there. Originally my goal was 40 but a really nasty divorce fucked that up... oh and next court date on that one is set for my fucking birthday

I'm basically 10 years past my original goal and looking at 65 now... Who knows, it's in the hands of Google for me. Which I know is a bad place to leave it.

I 'Semi Retired' about 2 years ago...

I have stopped doing any new stuff, and the stuff I do have going, is basically on autopilot.

Once each site / project is no longer profitable, I'll just let it go and drop it... But I'm not doing any fresh work anymore.

I was on a bus out of the country once and I was talking to an old man from the USA. He told me to do everything I wanted to do now and not wait until I retire because then you're often too old or your body hurts too much to really enjoy it. So that's what I did.

I'm just going to keep living my life and working until I feel like I don't want to work anymore, be it in 10 years or 50 years. I've found that when you just go with the flow of life, things work out and it's usually pretty stress free.

Besides, with the global economy falling to shit and the world changing faster than anyone could have ever imagined, what you plan for today probably isn't going to pan out the way you thought it did. I think our grandparents or in some cases or parents were the last of those people, who could plan and have it all work out. By the time I am old enough to get social security, there is a really good chance there will not be any left for my generation.

My only real "retirement plan" is this... Not live in the USA, own a decent plot of land free and clear where I pay zero or very little property tax, have a house on it that is also free and clear, complete with my own water and energy source. Be able to grow my own food and raise my own animals on that land. Have zero debt. And have enough savings in something tangible that will last through any economic meltdown and still allow me to be comfortable. These are the only things I can control. Anything else is a crap shoot.

Retired due to health reasons in 2009

Pretty much the same thing here. The only difference is that in any case I will always work, because I enjoy it so much. Not in day to day stuff like I do now, but in the very high overview level. I still love "making a deal", and I don't see that stopping.

Agreed.

I love this business, and I enjoy working. I continue to hand off mundane tasks to minions, or invest in automation to make my life much easier. But as for getting out of it completely, I can't see why anyone would realistically want too. It is like a cash machine, same as hosting.

You can always invest in other projects. But if you have a bank that keeps making money, it really doesn't make a lot of sense to just give it all up. However, I guess if you are not personally invested in anyway, and were just in this for a money grab, maybe...

Well when I talk about a retirement plan, I really mean to have enough money to do what I want while someone takes care of my business. I'd love to sit on a big boat with the family and just have to answer the phone to say yes or no I don't think I'll ever retire fully, that'd be boring. There would always be board work, managing investments etc

I'm planning on 'retiring' before I'm 30. I'll still do most of the same things that I do except no deadlines and more fun projects

Why would I want to retire?

My "work" consists of spanking the bouncing bare behinds of drop dead gorgeous models and then indulging my artistic pretensions by spending far, far too much time editing the subsequent videos to "perfection".

And making decent coin all the while.

It's not like you can find this sort of gig in the Want Ads

And when finally I'm too old expend even this modest amount of effort?

Well... I'd like to think that I'll be in a better place before then.
