Bluetooth, laptop, Skype/VoIP

I'm not very good with hardware so bare with me.

I want to connect my Bluetooth earpiece to my laptop, which has Bluetooth capability. I then want to use my laptop as a telephone. Phone call comes in through the Internet, I have a application/client from the given provider open on my computer, the computer than directs the call to my Bluetooth earpiece. I want to be able to make calls out from the computer as well, so basically there will be no telephone handset (the computer would need to activate the Bluetooth earpiece upon placing an outgoing call.)

I don't know much about Skype or other VoIP services or Bluetooth. I do use Google voice for some projects, but from what I can tell that does not have a calling application or Bluetooth capability, that is more or less a call forwarding/answering service.

Is this possible? What do I do?

I think the above video covers everything that I want.

Would Skype be the best service for this? How does the phone system with Skype work?

there is a little box at amazon called obi110. it lets you hook up any phone to google voice ( i do like skype too ) but I like google voice the best.

this means your laptop can be off and your phone will still ring, and I also have that number forward to my cell phone if I am out of the office - i wont miss a call.

i have a headphone hooked up to my regular phone with a wire, but maybe there is a phone system out there that allows you to hook up your bluetooth.

I've tried a few things, but this system is crystal clear all the time and nobody knows its VOIP

I just signed up for Skype phone, bought my own phone number as well. I'm concerned that my Bluetooth might be "listening" the whole time instead of being in "holding", but I guess we'll find out after a couple hours.

Here's what you want to do.

1. Turn on bluetooth on your computer and set it to discover.
2. Turn on your ear piece and set it to discover too.
3. Follow the pairing instructions. Your computer should see it easily.

In Skype, your earpiece should now be visible as an audio device. Select it.

In all other applications, use your Windows audio settings to select the earpiece as both your audio output ANd your audio input.

Now, all of your telephone devices will work with your blutooth earpiece.

The only small catch is that it will not activate on a call - instead, it will always be on, always sending and receiving which will drain your battery. However, you can turn the earpiece off when you're not using it. When you get a phone call, turning the earpiece on will connect you instantly with your computer.

This works well with Mac too - I use it with Skype and my Soft Voip phone all the time.

Good luck!

Sly, Should work fine as long as your the device shows up on your computer and the bluetooth is connected. It then because the same thing as a plugged in headset. The bluetooth shouldnt have anything to do with the software working with it or not. They should all work.

If you have bluetooth built into your laptop then your stoked if not you can still get a usb adapter for about $20 that will not be as reliable.
