Hi,

I'm located in the UK and have to make about 3 or 4 check payments to US customers every month. Paying via a UK check is a pain so I send the payment by wire instead and get hit with crazy wire charges.

I know there is a service, perhaps mainstream, that will accept a single wire payment from me and make payments to these US based clients via check for me. I just can't remember the name of the service.

Anyone care to suggest a few that do this?

I was going to suggest Webmaster checks but Fletch beat me to it.

Never had any need to use them myself but maybe will one day.

Another alternative worth considering is Paxum. We are a global ewallet payment service.

You would be able to fund your Paxum account with a single wire payment and then issue payments to your payees instantly through our P2P payment service.

Then your payees could choose to withdraw those payments as checks, wires, withdraw the funds to an already existing credit card, withdraw via EFT (direct deposit) or get a Paxum Mastercard and instantly load their Paxum card to immediately access the funds that way.

Hi Ruth,

Would this not require the recipients to open paxum accounts? The issue is none of the recipients are the same from one month to the next so making them open paxum accounts just seems like an extra layer of administration work. Unless I'm misunderstanding how the process works of course ...

I recommend also to use PayPal as alternative. Very stable system.

Hi Razor,

Yes, the recipients would need verified Paxum accounts in order to receive funds from you through our service. Verification is usually very straightforward; picture ID and proof of address, and most accounts are approved within 24 hours of submission of documents. Plus it's free for anyone to sign up with Paxum.

It may add an extra requirement for your recipients, but it does give them additional flexibility with, and instant access to their funds that they might appreciate. For you it reduces your administrative load in the sense that you simply load funds once, and then send all payments immediately (you can upload a bulk CSV file for your convenience if you prefer), for just $1 fee per transaction.

You would be able to fund your Paxum account via Wire, Check or loading instantly via External Credit Card, giving you additional flexiblity as well.

If you bank with a major UK bank they probably can issue cheques drawn on either their US Branch banks or an American corresponding bank account they maintain ...

Snail mail is 7 to 10 days from the UK to the USA.

For three or four cheques a month few services would bother. If you were sending 400 cheques a month its a different story.

If what you are suggesting was that easy with my bank I would have been doing that for the past 10 years. Unfortunately we had to stop getting the bank to issue US checks because the recipients were finding it hard to cash for whatever reason. We then started send wires and have been doing so for several years now but the costs just seem to keep rising year on year so we're looking for alternative methods.

Even a "few companies bothering" with my four cheques a year is better than no companies bothering. I'm not entirely sure where you were going with this line of reasoning.

True, you probably can't go to the Bank where the cheques are drawn but if you could they would cash them at the teller's window. If you need to cash your cheque when you're in business you probably should not be in business. Payroll cheques are commonly cashed -- payroll = a job.

You're assuming a fair deal. At the end of the day, I've been provided with options in this thread that could satisfy my requirements so I'm still failing to see how and why business should be done your way or no way? Thank you for your input nonetheless.
